    Re: Improving Audio and Atmosphere

Bumping this hopefully we FINALLY get the changes we need for this game. New and old heads on the forums can see this thread was created in 2014 and to this day we're all still asking the same thing. Sad lol

Rather than create a thread might as well continue with this one....there are plenty of great examples from the first few pages of this thread on what 2k can be.

I know 23 has given up lol but I still want to believe

          Re: Improving Audio and Atmosphere

This was a good thread. Much of it still an issue, particularly the atmosphere. I do think the rim sounds (which weren't a problem for me personally) are much more authentic now. Just need to get on that atmosphere and crowd sounds. I'm gonna be optimistic and say 2K handles it thus year.

After the Live 18 demo dropping I believe this thread needs to be seen again hah...
Anyone else agree 2K has to step up in a major way in regards to Presentation? Dead ball replays, Quick replays with a button after a basket, Half time show and end of game shows all need to be implemented better after playing Live. From what ive seen it has left 2K behind and i really hope they were aware of that in development!

While I agree 2k has always lagged behind Live when it comes to crowd noise, I think 2k outdoes Live in all other areas when it comes to presentation imo..
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

They do listen to their customers. Funny how the ball now has a different sound to it's bounce in every arena, as does the buzzer, as does the shot clock (and in looks), and that was one of the most underappreciated additions in 2k17.

The amount of pushback I got when discussing those additions was incredible. "I don't care about how the ball sounds I care about 5on5 raw gameplay!" Can't win.

Me too. Lives presentation (crowd and atmosphere) is outstanding, but it's largely the same since it returned. That ESPN package is nice, but I find 2Ks overall package much better. Outside of crowd/atmospher and the espn stat banners (especially free throw numbers, why 2K!?) I can't think of anything Live does presentation wise better. They have nailed everything else down to rim sounds and ball squeaks. Theres nothing left to address but the crowd.

It's because Marketing advertised a full atmosphere sound change package that people were expecting and that wasn't really it at all.

Top 3 Plays of the half, Player of the Half, Fast Break/Emphasis Points/ Team Highlights, top scorers, Cold Scorers.. And thats just at halftime.. Not to mention Live has sounds for replays as well, that always bugged me about 2K's highlights, there is no damn sounds for some reason since years ago..

I know what you're saying about Overall Presentation, perhaps im just talking about mainly the halftime/end of game shows and the fact you can replay things super fast by pushing a buttton, and the angles look damn nice.

Like I said, Live has done great with that ESPN presentation. I'd like to see more stat banners specifically in 2K. I smiled playing Lives demo when LeBron went to the line and his free throw percentage was shown... Honestly, more stat banners are my only big presenation issues in 2K. And i do want a more dleahed out halftime show, but its coming I feel. I loved 2Ks halftime show in 2k14 with Damon Bruce. It flowed well and connected with what was going on in MyGM (that was all we had) referenceing other games and stuff.

Once Shaq and Ernie came on board it was gutted. They have slowly but surly added to it. 2K15 (year 1) had no highlights. 2K16 (year 2) brought back the highlights along with Kenny. 2K17 they added rotating announcers! I remember the pic of Rick Fox, Sekou Smith and Lang Whiticker (NBA TV) in mo cap suits. They weren't in 2k17 so hopefully, they're in 2k18. I only replay to look at a nice play, I like to do that myself in slow motion. After 2k18 is actually released well know more about where each title is presentation wise. Live has the edge in crowd/atmosphere and authentic TV Package though. But everything else from commentary, to player interviews goes to 2K. We'll see what else they add.

First off the rim sounds are awful and its been the same since dreamcast. I'd like 2k to incorporate some real NBA sounds with the offense, making jumpers which right now sounds like an old hollow cylinder from a museum, and the dunks which are just bad. Here are about 3 sounds below just so I won't overflow the post too much.

                            Things to notice

Crowd reaction, rim sound (and its noticeable bend), Announcer reaction

                            Crowd reaction, Player scream
                            <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/1x-Gxm3wz-k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This is how a long jumper should sound hitting the rim hard

Rim sound, announcer, crowd (kinda muffled)
                            <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/GT0kE3LlgFg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Adding more stuff like this would go a long way in the game

Okay here is a bonus one of a bunch of game winners. Varying crowd sounds, how the rim sounds and the announcers as well as how players react
                            <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/mE0ptkNYVRI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
and dont forget the replay...this how replay should be done not that half-something 2k always does. they should have this commentary in highlights and camera angle. from the start of the play till end.

I really, really hope that NBA 2K18 has improved/added arena sounds in the many specific arenas. The obvious ones that sticks out the most are the arena sounds in Cavs (Quicken Loans arena) & GSW (Oracle arena).

In 2K17 they did NOT have authentic arena sounds while Live 18 and also Live 16 had their respective/authentic arena sounds. That's what bothers me because it ruins the immersion. Cavs vs Warriors been 3 straight finals and its hard to miss each stadium sound.
