    Re: NBA2K15 @ E3

It sucks but it might also be an attempt to maximize 2k14 sales. Some people only tune into NBA during the finals, and they might notice their sales pick up during finals a bit. And releasing exciting information on a game four/five months away might taper that a bit. 2k has usually always been weak on promotion but yea typcially you at least have a screen shot by e3. Their publisher pushed out decent info on Evolve, GTA, Borderlands, and Civilization but yea could just be a different business plan.

Also this year being different because a lot of new hardware purchases happened between Jan and the finals. So there is much more potential for 2k to actual get decent 2k14 sales through the end of this month. Putting 2k15 news out now would possibly hurt that.

In all seriousness, there's so much more hostility on the boards than there was even a few years ago. Gone are the days when the hardcore gaming community was more understanding of a game in it's early stages - immediately people begin ripping games apart, so it's likely not in the developer's best interests to show the games unless they have to.
I've read enough of your posts (over the years) to know that you CONSISTENTLY defend the 2K developers at every opportunity you get, just like a 'hired shill’.

And you CONSISTENTLY choose to debate anyone who has a legitimate inquiry, or concern about the game.

So before I respond to your comment, I just figured I'd let everyone ELSE in on exactly how this exchange between us will go down. So they can prepare themselves...

      - I will say something...
      - Then you will rush to defend 2K.

      - Then I will say something else...
      - Then you will defend 2K. Again.

(By attempting to steer the conversation in a completely different direction. My guess is... you will most likely want to steer everyone's focus on 'the hostility', or 'the tone' of the message boards.)

Whatever your angles will be… ultimately it will be just a thinly-veiled ‘defense’ of 2K, using different approaches.

And this will go on & on… until I grow tired of you defending 2K (yet again) and decide to stop responding.

      —————————————————————

So now that I’ve cleared that up, I can directly address your post...

The E3 Convention is EXACTLY when 'it is in a developer's best interest to show off their game'.

It is the premier seminal video game event... IN THE ENTIRE WORLD.

The media, the staff, the reporters, even the gamers themselves (the target audience) IS THERE.

Tell us all about your game. Everyone is here.
      Everybody.

The world is watching. And listening.

It is CONSISTENTLY the single largest 'captive audience' of gamers, reporters & bloggers you will get under one roof.. year after year.

      With that said…
Most Gamers want facts instead of ‘hype’.

But at least the ‘Hype Machine’ attempts to answers a few (factual) questions that people may have.

They may not have the right answer... but at least they give it a shot.

And it’s better than ‘absolute silence’.

Now, you may think the E3 Convention is not important.
      But it IS.

And if that is not good enough… here’s yet another reason:

2K SHOWED OFF THE 2K14 GAME AT SONY’s E3 PRESS CONFERENCE.. JUST ONE YEAR AGO.

Yes!! We actually SAW gameplay footage at E3 last year… and it got posted on YouTube.

      <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/wDLXVs1uQI0?hl=en_US&amp;version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/wDLXVs1uQI0?hl=en_US&amp;version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

But this year E3 is just not the right venue to show off the game anymore, huh?

Especially when 2K15 will be considered the FIRST (fully-developed) title of the next-gen consoles.

Last year - Let’s show off the (half-baked) game we threw together @ E3.
This year - E3 just isn’t the right time & place to promote the (full-fledged) game that took us a whole year to build.

      That makes no sense.

      Show us the game.
      Answer a few candid questions.

That’s how you MARKET A GAME properly.
And manage expectations, at the same time.

The folks who do it right… usually reap the benefits long after E3 is over.

All I know is... the less NBA 2K15 that's shown, the more optimistic I get about a 2K football game somehow being held back all the same.

Dude ya need to chill. Marketing the game correctly isn't going to make or break that game. If that was the case that it made the game better, Madden would never suck or sell poorly. You go back the last 8 years of 2k there has indeed been other e3s where there was zero nba 2k appearances. I know one year they had a video but it was last years footage just like the finals commercial this year.

Marketing correctly is only gonna effect the bottom line, not the customers sanctification. You'll have plenty to critique in October.

lol, and of course you speak nothing to what I said not being true. I was talking more about the general atmosphere on this and other game forums. The fact is, many of you HAVE said they don't want the 2K marketers around - I didn't make that up. I stopped reading the forum myself because the rhetoric had become so hyperbolic and over the top, with the class action lawsuit threats, Better Business Bureau filings, etc. Threads needing to remind people how atrocious the game is, then you read the content of the post and probably 90% of the time it's about some online experience they just had, playing the game some 8 months after it released. But it's supposed to be so unplayable and an affront to someone's sensibilities it requires a lawsuit to be filed.

So forgive me when I laugh at people wanting to call 2K liars and worse saying they only purchased the game because of marketing (not taking responsibility themselves) on one hand, but then talk out of the side of their neck begging for the hype machine out of the other. Imo the forum becomes it's own worst enemy with all the micro-analyzing and I-need-my-every-concern-addressed attitude. 2K could put out a video and you'd see tons of responses like "I didn't like the rebound/pass/shot that occurred at the 4:24 mark. Why isn't a dev responding to say it will be addressed!!!? Since they're not saying anything, must mean they aren't going to fix it. No buy.". Sadly that's not even that much of an exaggeration. We haven't seen so much as a screenshot from the game and already some feel the need to declare their decision not to purchase the game. Which is their right; I personally find it hilarious.

Seriously, there's no point in getting yourself so worked up over a game that we haven't even seen yet. At least wait until there's some actual evidence that there's sometime worth worrying about. With the PS4 having so few launch titles, I'm sure Sony was begging any developer with a functioning game to get it out in the forefront last year. Now that there isn't that incentive this year, maybe 2K doesn't want their game to disappear in the white noise of E3. After all, NBA 2K is popular enough in the sports video game world that they'll get all the attention they want whenever they decide to release info. They don't need a big event to draw attention.

Maybe they made some major revamps and aren't confident in showing it off to people just yet. Maybe they're trying a new marketing strategy and condensing the timeframe that they release info closer to launch. Maybe the thing causes your console to explode as soon as you pop it in and they're in full damage control. Who knows? Point is, we won't know until we see info/video of the game. Until that time, getting worked up about anything is just a lot of wasted energy.

Historically 2k never had a big showing at E3....so I don't know what people were expecting. Just wait for Gamescom for a few vids and a tiny bit of info. All I want to know is which version the PC version will be getting.

My issue is, why have a 2k15 commercial but show 2k14 gameplay? I dont understand lol.
