What, a guy needs programming experience to give a good idea?

You can hire someone just to be an idea guy, right?

Well sure, AFAIK Scott OG & Da Czar don't have any programming abilities, but they make up for it with their basketball expertise.

I guess hire him to hover over Beluba's shoulder? lol

Kind of interesting that Live is being used as an example, when I see plenty in it that are wrong including animations used as examples of what 2K should aim for. Harden's cut is way too extreme, and looks like twitchy and poorly tuned physics/animation blends. It also makes me wonder what defense Live has, when players seem unresponsive to drives, and you see both Harden and Lebron twitch with a bunch of weird choppy steps on their way to the hoop. Of course it's a glamour video so defense is optional, but the offensive animations already have issues.

That said, I think 2K could use more explosiveness and better footplanting, and a better range of run cycle animations, but Live likely isn't close to 2K in the animation department, and there's probably a reason all three clips were pretty much static offenses and defenses with repetitive isos.

Live's animations look like that anyway so it's not that much of a concern to me. The thing they do have is the players feel and look somewhat grounded to the floor, the feeling every step matters(or at least most of them lol). That's why I pointed out him and Bron on coming to the ball in a realistic fashion, whether Live has the animation quality of 2k is another story, but the changing of direction and sense of momentum created by those animations are needed and animations of that fashion are missing from 2k(at least until you are player locked and manually cut but it's mostly useless because the defense doesn't rely on planting also the animations are slow and aren't explosive). It's the problem Madden has in a way where only the user controlled person has true step but everyone else doesn't.
2k's off ball defense(and many other things) are obviously better gameplay/ai wise, but the movement definitely leaves something to be desired as you can see in the vid I made in the bottom of my post.

I don't really agree that Live will necessarily have better foot planting or momentum (I see issues with both on just the offensive player and three static scenes and their last game was just awful controls wise), but I do agree that 2K needs to improve their own footplanting and defensive sliding regardless. I still saw bits of it in the gamescon vids, and because much of the footplanting had improved, it was even more jarring when centers slid into the paint.

I'm not saying that Live WILL have better footplanting, what I'm saying is that game gives a better representation of the players steps and momentum when they head certain directions (though those clips were very deliberate and static). Believe me, I've played way too much Live 14 than that game deserved and while the game speed is slow, the momentum is noticeable. It suffered from a lack of animations, but it was there.

2k has this sensation of gliding across the floor for several reasons. One being the running/jogging/walking animations don't really resemble lifelike movements and another being a lack of momentum. There just isn't any "chopping" or explosion to the movements. It's kind of hard to explain lol.

Re: The Next Step in Immersion For Me

Sound has always been mediocre to me in 2K, literally the one thing I always thought Live did better.

Not commentary, not the way the PA announcer calls players names after they score (btw I think 2K does a great job getting team specific announcements or whatever they're called lol), but crowd noises and rim noises have always been less than spectacular.

Sometimes I have a point guard who can barely dunk sound like he threw down a monster slam like Shaq, and than I'll have Lebron on a fast break sound like he threw down a layup...what?? lol

Crowds need to be way more excited, especially in the 4th and in the Playoffs. We need more team specific chants, we need more emphatic commentary when someone hits a dagger or gets dunked on.

I will say, I like the noise when you pin someone lol...also, there needs to be more groans and stuff (pause) when you drive in and get contact. You know how some people yell for an and 1 or just yell in general to try and persuade a whistle?
Even when people board in traffic there needs to be more noise from the players themselves.
I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.
