That said, whenever I talk about visuals in 2k, they are in the context of my opinion that 2k14 was by far the leader of the pack in next gen graphics in its debut. Only this year are other games catching up, but for all of 2013 and 2014, I think 2k was the best example of what you had to look forward to if you upgraded to PS4/Xbox One.

The idea that fans of this game are raging over visuals in 2k is ridiculous. Whenever I type something, keep in mind that I don't even read posts like that or grown men crying about not being able to change the color of the finger tape on their whatever.

2k is still at the top of the pack visually, and people should acknowledge that as they voice their concerns. Unbalanced feedback is hard to judge, so you're only hurting yourselves with the rivers of tears.
Fantastic spot on thoughts as usual man. Down to the last period lol.

On the other hand, there is a lot of fat in some of the design, as well as a lack of overall graphic unity.

By contrast, look at how the design changed when Jay-Z took over. It wasn't just that it looked good. Much of the design really seemed to work together.
Yikes. Jay-Z's year was what I consider amongst the most horrible years in presentation-- everything went together because everything was an over dressed up eyesore. Look at mee! Music and stuff! On the score bug too! And on three pointers! Cuz musiiic!! Wut? Heh.

2K14 might have been worse only because they tried to strip it of his influence but still kept the corniness established in 2K13 so it had very little personality. But I would stiil prefer it to then overly gaudy and self referential Jay-Z design. Gah.

I can't the music choices that year though.

I do agree that 2K12 was likely the worst of the series after 2k11. That year the AI was impenetrable with sliding on defense-- even big men. Was just a really rough year.

2K13's major flaw was lack of paint contact animations and blocks.

2K14 was pretty solid all around in comparison with 12 and 13.

Cosign. 2k4 was BY FAR THE WORST NBA 2k EVER. It's really not even debatable. I don't see how it's even possible to think otherwise if you played that game, lol.

Half time show needs to come back. I almost never skip it because it was done pretty well imo. If it's dynamic enough and shows me what a half time show is supposed to show, I'll probably never skip it unless I'm playing against someone else.

With that said I'd like to see halftime highlights shown from the broadcast angle just like it is on TV. I think that was the main thing that 2k football did well with their halftime shows. The commentary and angles matched what we're used to seeing. I love the broadcast views they used for 2k14 and previous games for the highlights, but I'd rather it be authentic to a true broadcasts halftime show.

It's 2014 and 2k's presentation has gone backwards for what? To save space for those stupid casual game modes? Or lame MyDumbPlayer cutscenes? COME ON. The gameplay has improved so much it is a real shame presentation can't even compare to a 2007 game. Jesus
Respectfully, I do not support the manner with which you tackled "casual game modes" and "lame MyDumbPlayer" but I do think bringing up College Hoops 2K8 was a good call. All of the aspects you mentioned were outstanding, even in their imperfections. Selection Sunday was too legit.

I do not feel very strongly about the Halftime Show in NBA 2K but I'd surely prefer it be present. It's undoubtedly a part of an authentic broadcast. I really liked 2K's when it was first created, but I feel it had grown stagnant and repetitive over the past few years. I think I figured there would have been much growth in that regard by now - like maybe there'd be out-of-town highlights or a presentation that better mirrored real life.

I will say, NFL 2K5 and College Hoops 2K8 makes me wonder why they were able to get things so right in so many presentation aspects while many of those same aspects don't even seem physically possible in NBA 2K. I think NFL 2K5 is a great example of a game creating team making what they felt would be the best possible NFL football simulation game of all-time, regardless of whether fans were clamoring for a star-curated soundtrack or not.

But in the scheme of things, NBA 2K Halftime is just a small piece of the pie. Again, I'd still prefer to have it though. Its absence certainly creates a void.

I KNEW 23 was coming with 2k4 when I saw 'worst 2k ever' was being discussed.

It may be the first and last sports video game ever to use the word "agnostic" though

Pretty sure I've posted this video 22 times in my history here, but ESPN NBA Basketball 2004 was an outstanding product for those partial to Chauncey Billups tomahawk dunks and an inundation of standard pull-up jump shots in traffic from 4 feet away and inward.

You mean this thing? You know a wrong turn had to have been made somewhere for a dunk to look ridiculous even when Vince Carter performs it.

Not sure how NBA2K doesn't deserve to be mentioned with their other titles in terms of realism, particularly the steps they've taken to pioneer player individuality, game customization, etc. And especially the things they've done with 2K15.

While NFL 2K's halftime show was revolutionary for its time, I'd argue what NBA2K'S has done from a programmatical standpoint with their halftime has gone beyond what was done in the past. You get real time commentary and appropriate highlights for game action. NBA Today games also distinguish between time of day the user is playing and will give audio commentary on games to be played, in progress, etc.

I think I remember a 2K DEV mentioning it's difficult to do "real" highlights because the game only loads what assets/resources it needs for the game being played. Doesn't make sense to have the game load all player data, signature packages, arenas, etc just to provide other team highlights during halftime. The way they do now allows more resources to be dedicated to the game being played. This is a guess of course im not a programmer. Perhaps in the future there's a way around this limitation but I don't see how anyone could question what 2K's done to push sports game presentation boundaries.

My mentioning of NFL 2K5 and College Hoops 2K8 was in reference to many specific aspects of their presentation that have not been thoroughly attempted or replicated since.

I don't see how anyone could question what 2K's done to push sports game presentation boundaries.
In contrast, I can see how people may question what 2K's done from a presentation standpoint. It seems to be a matter of one's opinion in this regard, so I feel people may be welcomed to question whatever they wish to question, particularly if they have examples and logical reasoning in support of those questions.

Even when ESPN NBA Basketball 2004 was the newest basketball game out (along with NBA Live) and even when it was garnering great reviews (which still boggles my mind), there were obviously many aspects with which 2K could improve at that time, and critical feedback surely aided in their progression moving forward. If folks just settled with, "Welp, never seen presentation like ESPN NBA 2K provided this year so I don't see how anyone can question anything about it" then I feel that may have been a touch shortsighted, no?

I believe it is very important to remember that it is possible and extremely common to thoroughly enjoy a sports video game while still acknowledging its perceived shortcomings. If one feels another poster is not being a big enough fan of a game or not giving it the total amount of due one may feel it deserves, that is okay.

I don't disagree. I was only speaking to where I felt NBA2K doesn't get the credit it deserves for pushing the envelope on what's expected in sports game presentation. For any perceived slip they may have had (Jay-Z content perhaps) that gets talked about often, I'd say there are things they've done that don't get the credit they deserve (era - specific presentation in 2K12 perhaps). Just saying.

Things were a lot different back then.

                            Just a random thought.

But back on topic, even though 2k15 won't have halftime i'll say this. They have a great base for next year now. They have the camera pans and angles from the pregame show they can use for Shaq and Ernie, all they need now is more voiceover work to cover more scenarios and then reincorporate highlights.
