Re: An In-Depth Look at the Changes to the NBA 2K16 Ratings System

This sounds like ratings might finally be close to accurate to where there don't need to be a bunch of editing made before its playable in Association mode, and Im sure for those online players this should make a positive impact if its done the way 2k says it is.

Had been considering niot buying 16, but I do like all the new additions to the game, so definitely considering it day1. Really hope with the new addition of classic teams, that the Euro League is still in the game and improved upon. Oddly enough when they 1st decided to add foreign teams I thought big deal who cares, but I have to say I really enjoyed playing with these teams in 15, and would love to see improve upon them.

    Favorite teams:
MLB- Reds/ and whoever is playing the Cubs
    NBA- Pacers
    NFL- Dolphins & Colts

This actually sounds awesome and it makes sense. But I do have some questions?

Does the new ratings actually have an affect on how they play? I other words will players who's ratings have dropped to the 70s who was once in the 80s, will their playing ability actually go down? or is it just strictly how they are rated?

I don't see the point in having someone play worse in 2k because they are now being rated with the Hall Of Famers. Especially if they are still playing exceptionally well in todays league.

Also, i'm pretty sure (correct me if i'm wrong) that 2k doesn't have the license for every Hall Of Famer(s). So how accurate would the rating be if some of the best are missing?

I think these things will have an effect on game play. You shouldn't be able to routinely make players play as good as the person who was the best in history at doing the particular skill set. It is just about making players play within or close to how they are rated.

I thought about it some more. All this means is what 99 means to the game as far as success rate is determined by the best in history.

99 offensive rebounding should correspond to a certain % of the best in history

99 Post fade should be the best post fade in history and a certain success rate.

99 Blocking should be the same the best in history etc a certain block %.

They basically changed the scale range.

If everything is tuned close to right whatever is in the roster should reflect what you see in the sim engine and be fairly close to what you can get playing the game.

I don't think realistic gameplay will be sacrificed, think of all the 80-70 rated players that have killed you in games. The difference between a 78 and an 81 isn't really noticeable in-game. I've edited my rosters to this scale the last couple years and it works well. In fact, some players have their Overall ratings go up. If the players do indeed play as their real-life counterparts, i wouldn't be worried about a cosmetic overall rating. If you are a league average shooter you will have a C grade. Steph will most likely be an A+.

Hot damn, if I draft a center with a 99 block and he ends up averaging 5 per game... man!

Lol man Delly needed an IV for dehydration not because he got cooked. The guy went from 15 minutes a game to 40+ with no one to sub for him lol. He clearly wasn't conditioned for that level and length of play. Curry made CP fall so obviously he's near impossible to guard even for another star.

Don't understand how he's dirty for playing hard.

Saying that I say there needs to be ratings for things like conditioning instead of just stamina. Also something besides hustle to indicate hard play. Like hustle in 2k just means how far I dive when it's really a lot more.

It should be close to that . The only thing with blocks is once the AI catches on that you are a real threat to block shots they shouldn't test you as much. That is what happens in real life. In 2K14 you could really get a high amount of blocks because the CPU was persistent.

You don't routinely keep challenging Ibaka, Hibbert, Davis, Dream etc. over and over again or you don't get so quick to put offensive rebounds back up after a rebound around them.

One of those sports conference studies did some advanced statistics showing that great shot blockers impact were so great that people attempted less shots therefore their blocks per game could be low but it was mainly because people stopped penetrating the paint.

The only thing about the scale pertaining to blocks is the lack of tracking already in the game. Lowering block ratings might make this worse . But I'm sure they improved on that aspect any way

Yeah they have to rework shot blocking. I know the gameplay team, Myleague producers guys and roster team know that the blocks for the most part were slightly under reality.

We need better tracking and the possibility of in air blocks for the guys with high verticals , it happens but it doesn't happen as frequently as it should and better ball tracking for guys that don't really jump high but have good hand eye coordination.

They added something I have been asking for two years which is the verticality defense in the paint so you shouldn't try to swat everything

                      From that advanced controls thead
                      • Vertical Contest: Move and hold left stick away from the shooter and press Triangle/Y

If this works as intended and if blocking and ball tracking is improved then you should be able to lock down the paint somewhat effectively with a good rim protector and there should be more jumpers taken

We can can debate the NEW System all we want, but what I am Interested to see is how this all works with SIM Stats and Gameplay. It seems to be a Great Concept, but wont know until we can dig in and test. I do like the fact they are working on new things. Interested to see if ANY New Attributes, Tendencies or Badges were Added this year as well.

The silence is making me think otherwise. Beds (who primarily designed rosters around sim stats back in the day) would've answered this huge question by now.. Still holding out hope though.

But I'm thinking the offensive ratings are just a show and they changed the the game to lean actual percentage instead of user timing

I hat cheesers but hear me out. I don't get why people complain about 3pt cheese with Curry. Have you guys seen him in real life he literally is 3pt cheese.

Having played online I haven't seen 3s in 2k that players take that curry wouldn't take or wouldn't have the chance to make. Curry irl has very poor shot selection but his skill allows it to go unnoticed, so no one can cheese 3s with Curry. He is cheese irl which shows how ridiculous he is as a player. Now if other players can hit Curry like 3s then I understand the complaints, but don't make me grab the Curry highlights and show that he's not cheese in 2k lol.

I buy this game every year but the past couple years I purchased more out of habit then actually wanting to play. With all of the changes going into this years, I am really looking forward to playing this and building up a team. All of the presentation changes and now ratings changes have me really EXCITED!!
