This is what I have always loved about 2k. The overall immersion and differentiating of players through signature style was a game changer back in 2K7. As the series went on, we have had additional signature style and animations, but curiously it sometimes came at the expense of other signature animations. The Steve Nash signature licking his hands animation was so great and true to life. Now we have generic walk ups. Hoping with the inclusion of the 7 seconds or less Phoenix Suns that the animation is put back into the game. It would go a long way in terms of making Nash stand out as definitively Steve Nash and not a generic point guard. I love that 2k added in signature celebrations and mouthpieces are a tremendous aesthetic touch, but I would love for more signature animations to be available. The signature size ups sound promising, however I hope they aren't generic and actually look like the respective players signature handle. The more signature the better. Signature accessories are something that they have implemented to an extent and for the most part been successful in doing so. The mouthpieces, LeBron James "I promise" rubber bands, Jordan calf sleeve, and Dwight Howard Adidas Power arm sleeve are all examples of this, and 2k was the first game to introduce under shirt compression shirts (like Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and LeBron James wear to this day). However there is still room for improvement and much more signature accessories. Jordan jump man rubber bands, let it fly rubber bands, sweat bands with custom stitching such as the ones Penny Hardaway, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson and even Michael Jordan used. Compression shorts with team logos or player numbers on them. Those are just a few examples, but I'm hoping we just keep getting more signature everything. The new classic teams should get signature animations Antoine Walker's celebration, Q Richardson's head knock, the 2007 LeBron should not do the stomp celebration current LeBron does, but instead should throw up the Roc LA Familia sign etc. Hopefully there are signature lay ups for Nash similar to the ones he had back in 2K8 I believe for example.

For instance, I believe right stick dribble's inclusion in 2K13 really jacked things up in terms of animations that worked within the new system. I think that move resulted in the loss of signature size-ups, a lot of signature ball-handling, and possibly the walk-up animations (I'm losing track of what happened when). 2K has seemed to be trying to bring those things back ever since.
Regardless, I agree with everything you said. True, authentic personality and details can make a game come alive. Michael Jordan and his Jordan Challenge is a really easy example, but it goes for everyone. It would have been cool enough to have Michael Jordan included in 2K11 using every other player's animations. But the fact he had those double-pump layups, the rock-the-cradle, the one-handed pump fake, the shrug... it shot that experience through the stratosphere.
I can't stress enough what great attention to individual player and team detail can do for the feel of games like this.Comment

I totally agree and this is why 2k13 is my least favorite 2kComment

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
We need to keep pushing this stuff to get a change in the right direction from 2k.
They've been more than good enough to us by giving us more teams, but without the right look/uniforms/accesories/authentic arenas and sound the immersion will be lost.
2k11 & 12 were the best to offer in terms of this - now we've moved up a level, console wise, they should be knocking this out the park.Comment

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
Well people do care. The development team is spectacular and clearly care about the community but they need to put effort into the classic teams. Signature accessories and animations and era specific details and picture filters. The classic play books and coaching strategy adjustments (Jordan Rules) are important steps in the right direction but they can't go half way in terms of visual fidelity and player model accuracy to their real life historical counterparts. It kills the immersion and takes you out of the novelty of playing with those teams.Comment

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
I'm glad someone actually posted this....but the sad truth is they feel its OK to do this. I was shocked that Jordan was not fixed after 2k14. It will be outrageous if they don't fix Jordan this game, especially after using his image on the collectors edition.Comment

It will really suck if they're charging $80 for the Jordan edition preorder and Jordan didn''t receive a graphical upgradeComment

They couldn't in good conscience charge you $20 extra dollars for a poorly realized Jordan. Especially considering he's the cover boy again.Comment

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
I haven't used young Jordan this year, I simply refused to use most of the classic teams after seeing how badly their uniforms and body types were designed...AGAIN!
I traded most of the legends to current day teams just to get jersey physics and arenas with actual sound (Cannot believe after all the authentic arena music/sounds in 2k12 they had, every last one was removed - Chicago Stadium is HOLLOW without the organ!)
I believe young Jordan isn't too bad, it's just the later versions, I will check this evening. But as most of us know, it's not just MJ - the legends in general, look TERRIBLE as opposed to how good they looked last gen, and of course, on modded PC versions.-----------------------------------------

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
There was a single picture of Robert Horry leaked a while back - judging by that, looks like ZERO has been done in terms of jersey/uniform improvement, which will be a HUGE blow to the immersion.
Man, just LISTEN to the authentic arena sounds here from Chicago Stadium in 2k12, and the great commentary in regards to the legends - you get NONE of this now. Zero arena music in retro stadiums, and zero commentary about the legends.
Funnily enough - Benny the Bull's 'uniform' at 8:46 looks like our current gen mess we have now!
