Re: How does everyone feel about shooting?

I like it. I shoot 35-45% from deep online. Very realistic. Great shooters may miss a few looks but when you look at the box score they're usually shooting 2/5 (40%) . My problems are taking 'contested' when my defender is a few feet away, missing too many open pull up jumpers with shooters like Curry and CP3.

For the sake of these discussions and comparisons we all need to be talking about the same level so from here on out only post stats from superstar sim level. IF you do all-star please note that in your feeback.

IF you have custom sliders please don not contribute without specifying that you have changed things
to be fair, that was the first game I've had an issue with cpu shooting. Superstar SIM, default sliders. Game speed to 47 though.

Percentages have been on point for the most part. My thing is that I'm getting the gooseneck animation VERY often, yet the shots aren't falling. Kevin Martin, Shabazz, and Wiggins (mid range).

I'm gonna turn off the meter, I think I'd be much less frustrated if I didn't see the visual cue, lol. Also, I don't shoot w the meter, I always look down at it after releasing.

Re: How does everyone feel about shooting?

Okay, so I was running a CPU-CPU game on Superstar Sim, 12 minute quarters, between the Warriors and Hawks.

Here's the stats for the game:

Notice the 19 attempted 3s for the Warriors (shot 27 per game last year, and the 16 for the Hawks (26 last year). The percentages are actually pretty good, but note the points in the paint: 66 and 48 respectively.

Now, per teamrankings, Golden State averaged 44.4 PiP last year, and Atlanta 41.9.

Now, a shot chart from the game (amazing feature, btw):

The Warriors averaged 28% of their shots between 0-3 feet last year. In this sim, that number was more like 42.5%. The Hawks were a lot better at 25.6% in game compared to 29% in real life, but the makes for both teams are way too high (which is another issue).

Atlanta box score (Korver 1 shot?):

        GSW box score:

This is very representative of what I'm seeing from the AI on SS/Sim. In a separate test last night, I played a game against GSW where I set all the shooting tendencies to 0 except for 3PA, and they attempted 28 in a game. That's where it should be at base tendencies.

Re: How does everyone feel about shooting?

          I definitely like it.

Right now, I'm not that good honestly at shooting, but it feels great. I think it's completely normal right now not to feel like I own the game.

I just thought there would be more green releases that don't go in (like in 2k14 on Ps4), but it's certainly dependent on a wide range of factors, like hotspot, single ratings, and the kind of release that players have. There are some shot releases that are more adept to get a great release.

I haven't really understood how to interpretate the shot meter, but I think I'll get it off and with more experience I'll just evaluate off the releases in different situations (spot-up, off the dribble, step back, off screens, fade away. etc)

The shot meter makes zero sense sometimes. Especially at the free throw line

Yeah, I'm dumping the shot meter, too. Don't like it near the feet.

Czar, if you could elaborate as to what goes into the shot feedback grades, I think that would help a lot of us have our expectations for our own shots set correctly.

It made a little more sense last year than it does this year, especially on free throws.

If you're talking about overall, you're flat wrong.

If you're talking from 3, then yes, you're right, but that's a mix of a variety of types of shots, from wide open to closely guarded, early in the shot clock to late, etc. I feel like if you're generating a B+ or above shot from 3, that it should go in 50-60% of the time. Here, it feels like maybe 30-40%, but even that feels generous.
Wide open or B+ threes at 50-60% would be disastrous and doesn't match NBA percentages. Most NBA threes are actually taken wide open. The average NBA wide-open shot percentage IS close to 40%. Stephen Curry hits 45% from wide open as an all-time GOAT shooter. Korver is one of the few who is above 50% wide open. Percentages drop drastically when closely-contested but these are very rarely taken (1.7% of all threes). Contested 3's (2-4 feet) go in at an average of about 30%.

The open corner 3 goes in at a higher percentage but even only Curry was hitting 60% from the right corner a few years ago, and that was higher than usual.

30-40% with a B+ is very consistent with NBA realities for an average 3-point shooter.

Remember the disaster that was last year's Patch 4? All that happened because open percentages for midrange shots were tuned to 65% (or was it 60%?). Now imagine if we applied that to 3 point shots. Open NBA midrange shots go in at around 45% for reference.

I play as GSW (All-Star) and have no real problem with the shot percentages though I wonder if contested percentages need to go up a tad more but I'm not sold on this. There are players who should be making moderately contested threes though, like Nick Young.

The best thing I ever did was not even look at it

Im also not a percentage freak so it's not killing me that I can't replicate 50% from the corner with Curry. Not that I don't care but after all you have to re-learn this game. Once certain things click you'll see

So far the shooting seems more realistic playing on all-star/sim. The CPU and I both miss wide open shots. However, that is how it should be. Patch 4 last year made virtually every wide open shot go in and it was not fun at all.

For what it's worth, I took a quick glance at box scores last season between the Warriors and Hawks to make sure some of it wasn't due to their defenses affecting each other. GSW still took 30+ a game (even with Klay out) and the Hawks high 20's when Korver played and 22 when he was out.
