    Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread

After having played more games, i'm falling in love. The gameplay is awesome man. It's so rewarding to play actual basketball and have to think from legit basketball perspectives.

Past versions of 2k have felt more like a basketball mock (with the cpu cheese, and things being out of control). This feels like a basketball simulation. The guys in the gameplay department really nailed it this year, they should be proud.

I didn't really enjoy 2k16 that much, especially after the patches. I couldn't even explain why, but it just wasn't fun for me. I assumed i was just sick of basketball games in general. But in 2k17, every game i play i start to marvel at how far the gameplay has come. It's so deep. From the playbook and offensive scheme integration, to the beautiful animations, to the physics, the customizability/sliders. Every player has their own unique skill "shape", and you really feel it. You can feel when you have a 7 foot mammoth. You can feel when you have a small shooter. You can feel when you have an athletic penetrator. You can feel when you have a long-armed defender. THIS IS BASKETBALL. Everything is balanced so well. There's so many different angles to take, all with their different variables, and they're integrated with each other so well.

My only gripe is that plays might be TOO effective. I have played two 12 min qtr games and scored 130 pts each time with my ****ty expansion team, shooting a very high percentage, due to creating my own playbook and knowing that i would need my players to be off-ball scorers. However this isn't a real grip BECAUSE WE CAN TUNE STUFF OURSELVES YO. It's the physics side of things that we needed from 2k, and they've done really really really well this year. Kudos.

Yeah other than very few slider tweaks to fix what you mentioned not much real "patching is required...

Currently testing it CPU vs. CPU on Hall of Fame with default sliders, too high.
But as I said, that´s not the biggest problem thanks to the sliders.

And I have to say I love the new commentary. It´s awesome to have different commentators and I like that they now say the players name instead of "him" in some situations. Just a little thing, but adds a lot to immersion.

And the Pull Up J´s, and Stepbacks ... man I love this game.

I agree if we can get FG's and 3's lower the game is perfect

Check out cpu vs cpu on superstar, that's generally 2k most realistic level as far as stats go.

First Impression had me down on a few things until I played an actual game. As a knicks fan, I was extremely disappointed with MSG again - hoped they would have more arenas this year so I could create a more true to life MSG, the knicks away jerseys are way too dark, and Kuzminskas and Hernangomez have generic faces which I'm still hopeful will be updated.

That said, the gameplay is amazing this year. Can't say enough good things about the gameplay.

Had a chance to play a bit more. On the surface it seems very similar, but the more you play the more you'll notice the differences. It's more physical and a bit more fluid

I have to give props to the art team. I have been extremely vocal about body models and other things. But man playing retro teams is amazing this year. The player models just look better, skin textures, all the accurate retro shoes. The lighting at the Bill Russell era Boston arena. I was in heaven playing Russell vs Jerry west lakers. The retro jump shots are great.

Also the super skinny player models really aren't that bad while playing. The game overall just looks much cleaner. No jaggies and the hair on white players looks much improved. I just wish we could edit short length and get those tv filters back. But overall game is good.

I give the game a 9.1 out of 10 so far. Gameplay is nearly flawless, but the new sub menu and stealing is a problem for me a little.

Jump shot defense strength to 100 should lower 3's and FG

I play superstar and sim sliders. What is going on? I know how to play D in this game, but every well contested post turn-around shot going in, this is not funny, post moves are OP, same with threes, AI just does not miss them, especially after plays, they hitting it with crazy %. This is just wrong. Deffensive pressure is just nothing this year.

I'm so disappointed with UI this year. Cmon, it's has to be changed this year, so many good things from past changed to bad.

Played Utah without bumping FG strength to 100

                                14 3's taken before
                                5 3's taken at 100 in 1st Q 12 mins
