After having played more games, i'm falling in love. The gameplay is awesome man. It's so rewarding to play actual basketball and have to think from legit basketball perspectives.
Past versions of 2k have felt more like a basketball mock (with the cpu cheese, and things being out of control). This feels like a basketball simulation. The guys in the gameplay department really nailed it this year, they should be proud.
I didn't really enjoy 2k16 that much, especially after the patches. I couldn't even explain why, but it just wasn't fun for me. I assumed i was just sick of basketball games in general. But in 2k17, every game i play i start to marvel at how far the gameplay has come. It's so deep. From the playbook and offensive scheme integration, to the beautiful animations, to the physics, the customizability/sliders. Every player has their own unique skill "shape", and you really feel it. You can feel when you have a 7 foot mammoth. You can feel when you have a small shooter. You can feel when you have an athletic penetrator. You can feel when you have a long-armed defender. THIS IS BASKETBALL. Everything is balanced so well. There's so many different angles to take, all with their different variables, and they're integrated with each other so well.
My only gripe is that plays might be TOO effective. I have played two 12 min qtr games and scored 130 pts each time with my ****ty expansion team, shooting a very high percentage, due to creating my own playbook and knowing that i would need my players to be off-ball scorers. However this isn't a real grip BECAUSE WE CAN TUNE STUFF OURSELVES YO. It's the physics side of things that we needed from 2k, and they've done really really really well this year. Kudos.
