Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Honestly might actually try and go back to older 2k today while the Wife cranks down on Destiny. Got my main MC player to max, so screw it. I need a break, this game feels just so pointless and absolutely fake in almost every facet. It CAN be fun, but I might as well.play on 2 minute qtrs at this point.
To be fair though, almost all of today's sports games easily stack up to last versions on last-gen. 2k just can NOT get over many problems from.5+ years ago, as well as completely bungling any sort of balance with a laughingly sloppy attempt at eSports. All the presentation wow-factor 2k has replied on for years is wearing off on people. Nobody wants your cutscenes, and everybody skips all announcing a month in.
Like a lot of people I see in this thread, HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT this year. NBA season isn't even starting yet and I'm already legit ready to put in hours on a 6 year old 2k game.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I am never going to let up on 2K for this joke of a game. Here's a screenshot of my first half using my sliders. To me, this just epitomizes everything I've dealth with this year.
Spoiler
Come on now. 30 points down at the half? I'm a better player than that. Even on Hall of Fame mode in 2k16 a team had to be a whole lot better than mine to go up 30 points on me.
They had 22 more shots than me. Tripled up on me in PiP, and more than quadrupled me in Fastbreak points. I missed layup after point blank shot after free throw after wide open three. For a team that has Paul George and Mike Conley, the defense alone should have kept me somewhat close. But then, we look down and see that defense had absolutely nothing to do with it.
And if you'll kindly look down at the time of possession, that, to me, tells the whole story. I had the ball for almost 50% more time that they did. And they got 22 more shots. And sliders have nothing to do with it. You know why? Because there is no "Run Plays" slider and no pace slider of any kind. There is absolutely no way to adjust the AI in this game to be less Warriors and push the ball up every time. Their PG pushed the ball up, sprinting, mind you, every time there was no made shot. That is not an exaggeration, every single time.
I'm done. I just contacted my buddy and we're switching back to 2k16 for franchise mode. Next year we won't be buying the 2k installment unless something drastically changes. This officially marks the death of simulation basketball for me, at least for now. 2K is no longer the pinnacle of sports gaming and I will NEVER recommend this series from 2k17 on to anyone until it is proven to me that you can do it right. And you know, it's especially sad, because The Show lost their claim to sim baseball as well this year. So here I am, a man without a country.
As someone that has bought every consecutive 2K for at least 14 years now, congrats 2k, you successfully lost another customer."The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws."

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I'm missing an incredible amount of dunks in this game. I bet my guys miss a total of 5 dunks a game, and I'm talking with guys like KAT, LaVine, and Dieng. Now don't get me wrong, I know it can happen, but it's happening extremely often, and every single game. I've yet to go one game without missing at least 3 dunks.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I haven't got on here and b#$@% but this game is really bad IMO. When the game first launched it was ok, but everytime 2k patches something, they break something else. Can someone explain to me why everytime I score, my team doesn't get back on defense? Is it something I'm doing wrong? I even click on my bigs and try and turbo down court but this usually results in my guards not manning up, and even when I do click on my guys to try and get them back on D, they face the wrong direction. The 3 point success is crazy but I wouldn't mind that if I could play up on defense which I wasn't having a problem with when the game first came out. Now it's like nobody on my team wants to play D, especially after we score. It also seems like the controls have become more sluggish and I feel like I'm sliding when trying to defend. There is absolutely no moving screen calls and I'm starting to see people take advantage of this online. This is NOT BASKETBALL. I'm sick of supporting 2k every year only to be disappointed everytime. Does anyone know if there will be another patch and what things will be addressed?Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I'm done with this game, whole thing is broken. I've never played a 2k game where I couldnt do my subs or run a play. Everytime I go to do a sub it starts auto selecting with no input, when I tap lb to do a play 3/4ths of the time nothing happens. The Ai has 0 sense on how to move on offense, they cut for no reason into defense instead of staying where theyre open. On transition they run the dumbest routes and never all the way either, they just stop short. I'll have a guy like Ben Wallace stop at the 3 point line like he's going to pop a three. No one in the game has handle, they'll get caught up lose their dribble no matter what the rating. It's especially annoying when youre running on what should be an easy fastbreak and some defender 2 feet behind you starts hitting your leg and immediately gets teleported in front of you no matter how fast you are. Players do stupid putbacks from 6 feet out and brick instead of just grabbing the board.
The defense is even worse. There is pretty much no way to defend the opening tip ending up in a dunk or lay up. It's stupid how slow players are to react in transition, even if they had forever to get set. A guy can just put whatever speedy gonzalas they have and turbo baseline from full court and get a bucket. players don't close out at all, especially if the opponent is shooting. 8/10 times they'll stop short 4 feet and just watch as the guy shoots. 2k literally forgot to add moving screen fouls so anyone and everyone can just spam picks or have you get stuck behind some guy. The Ai in this game has 0 idea that youre suppose to stay in front of your man. Countless times will the ai just let some guy scuttle behind him and get an easy basket.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Well, I don't know what happened but ever since I turned off ACE this game has been playing so great again for me.. Im talking only about offline MYGM. Im back to getting realistic stats/percentages, the cpu isn't cheesing hard or hitting every 3, and neither is my team.
My guys are actually most of the time getting back on D. Its playing possibly better than out of the box for me right now and I can't believe it as it was totally different when I was playing before with ACE left on and D settings not changed.
Things I have adjusted that i think fixed it the most are:
Turning Ace off obviously as it was broken
Setting defensive assignments for all players to tight and then smother/deny for shooters and moderate/sag for centres etc. Doing this seems to make my team stay with their guys a whole lot better, I wish i did it ages ago.
A few slider tweaks on All Star to tone down 3's.
Anyways I hope it stays playing like this for me after the next patch.. Its crazy the difference I saw really.. Guys are playing like they should and Im seeing all the little things I saw out of the box that made me love it at first.Sim. Ball. Only.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
nearing my final verdict of this version of 2k.
my word for this post is efficient. The developers dropped the ball on efficiency and ease of use, even for 2k lifers like myself.
so far too many changes for me to enjoy this game. especially subbing players and making adjustments during timeouts- I do not like the new layout at all. how many menus must I have to go through to sub players. the older lay out was more efficient (2k15, aside from how you call timeouts). the timeout layout is not efficient.
my major gripe aside some issues with the game play is that everything that worked efficiently are no longer efficient.
The gameplay, plays too fast to make proper in game adjustments. maybe if the layouts were a bit more intuitive or stripped down like years past that wouldn't be an issue.
what this results in is nothing but run and gun, trying to keep up with ai controlled teams. I feel that in game strategy is non existent in this version of NBA2k.
still too many pull up threes for my liking. I hate seeing fast-breaks that are 1 on 0 ending in pull up threes. doesn't happen alot but when it happens I cant stand it.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
There is no so called "comeback logic" anymore.
And this is freaking GREAT! Mad props to whoever responsible for that or figured it out or whatever but mad Props and credit where credit is due. I want this to be noticed and praised because this has been going on for a long long time with 2k and it's gone no more.
Thank you very much, props to 2k devs.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
After playing this game for a month, I have to say, I'm surprised, that I'm still playing it. Perhaps it fits the description of madness, when You do the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.
It is marketed as a "Basketball simulator", but it should read "Anger stimulator" on the packaging. It is that bad. I mostly played against CPU, so my impressions are based on that.
Let's start with the defense, shall we? Developers kindly provided elaborate settings in the gameplan menu. They are great, in theory. They don't work. Even if You studied what impact each setting should have on the game and You set it just right, it has almost no effect on the outcome. Playing defense in this game is like the great philosopher of modern times Mr. Jeremy Clarkson said: "... like conducting Pelmanism".
Other part of the gameplan, assigned playtime for players. Sometimes the coach for some weird reason decides to substitute in players, who weren't in the gameplan, thus destroying their per game statistics.
With that in mind, the whole gameplan menu, is useless. I might as well write the whole thing down with a pen on a sheet of paper and expect it to make a difference in the game.
Yet another thing that is a trademark of the 2k basketball - inaccurate player attribute ratings. Every player in NBA has a deadly jumpshot apparently. So any defensive strategy is useless, You play against a team of Michael Jordans every single game, good luck defending that! On offense you are up against 5 Gary Paytons. Only mismatch You can exploit is height.
Another gripe I have is player movement. There are times when gamepad input doesn't give You the correct results. Heck, sometimes player moves in the opposit direction. The same can be said about passing and shooting. There is noticable amount of input lag. In video games and in sports games particularly this sort of nonsense is untolerable. If you wait for the result from your button press for more than a second, then it is not the skill that decides the outcome of a game, but a pure chance.
I started more than a 100 games or so, but finished only about 30 against CPU. Unfinished games because of rage quit. And I'm widely known as a calm person, practically a saint. When Dalai lama has some anger issues, he seeks advice from me. So this is an area where 2K succeeded the most, getting me angry. I'm not alone like this. I've seen a sane, mature man who smashed his LCD screen with a gamepad while playing this game.
I am sorry about this whole thing. I had to get it out of my system. As for the final verdict - I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, so AVOID!!!Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
has anyone mentioned how the CPU doesn't play within the attributes. I've seen Wall look like Curry and Whiteside look like Z-Bo in the post. Dude has a freaking 38 rating in the post and is doing post fadeaways on me and draining them. This is the most AI cheese I've seen in 2K ever. All the CPU does is cheese just to get points. 25% of their points are probably earned all the rest is cheating the user to get the points.Comment
