It basically nerfs the penalties (which are pretty extreme) for getting very late releases on Superstar level. I'll undo this change as soon as everyone has patch 1.04.
    Well that's good to hear.

Quick question. With the latest defensive tuning, will looks like these continue to garner D+, fully contested grades for the rest of the year? I just want to have an idea of what to look out for.

In the last tuning update, I basically increased the buffer between open vs. contested by 1 foot. I'll reduce it by 1/2 foot tonight to move it closer to where it used to be. I'll be monitoring OS and Twitch for feedback.

Have to agree about the Prelude being significantly smoother, as well as the early iteration of the game before the updates (specifically referrong to on-ball CPU sticky defense)

The patches and updates have improved the game is some areas but defintely re-introduced a lot of the sticky/warping defense.

Mike- I assume this is in the game to help with balance in on-line play. But it really crushes the offline experience for many of us. I want the game to feel organic and free flowing and not have to worry about being constantly sucked into defender animations.

Hopefully you can address this in the next patch (assuming thats the big gameplay patch). But if you decide you cant, maybe you can program the body up slider to remove ALL the CPU on-ball defensive boosts and stickiness when set to 0. This will allow you to maintain balance of on-line, while also allowing us offline guys to have a free flowing game. Where good offensive players can drive to the rim, and elite defenders matter (rather than every defender feeling like kawaii)

        Heres to hoping!

Thanks for the feedback. But I'm curious on what this actually means? I only play against the CPU (HOF with custom sliders if that means anything) but what I've notice is that the CPU will hard contest every shot. It's like he just flies out there no matter where the closer defender is at. I don't think it was like this out of the box.

I'm just trying to find a slider set (shooting) that resembles the player ratings along with my user timing. It just seems that I'm missing a lot of shots lately. It's like if it's not green it's not going in, no matter how good the shooter is.

We evaluate the distance between defenders and shooters at different stages of a jump shot to determine whether he's open, contested, or crowded. This directly impacts the shot % for any given shot. In my 1st update, I basically made it so that the defender had a little more leniency in his distance before the defensive impact started kicking in. So shooters had to be about a foot more open than before to be considered the same openness as pre-tuning. Tonight, I'm going to cut that distance exactly half way between what you're playing now and what you guys had at ship.

Now, please explain to me, with HOF Limitless Range, HOF Deep Range Deadeye, and a 98 shot, how this is now considered a fully contested shot, and worthy of a D+ rating as if this is great defense? This is my problem with the defensive tuning that was done, where the game now recognizes this as a 'terrible shot'.
The 5ft is also acting as a radius.

The defender can be anywhere within 5ft of you and without even raising a hand: your player can be put into a fadeaway contest animation. The same nasty animation that was in 16 and I was not seeing it originally in 17 until this shot tuning and patch arrived for XB1.

The defensive strength numbers for impacting a player's gather is juiced way too much right now and is the cause for these very unnatural and unfair outcomes. This is not in line with Simulation standards for defensive and offensive shot contest vs shot mechanics.

If this 1/2 foot means that those super fast recovery defense contest cheese is gonna be eliminated by some and be back like out of the box and with more natural movement, i'm all for it. Thanks for the heads up Mike. Appreciated. Can't wait to try and let you know of.

Edit: I have "update required" now i guess that's about this tune.

My only issue pre-tuning was the amount of contested crap going in, and absolutely atrocious 3 point shooters making shots they shouldn't. I personally didn't mind the open shots falling too much because it felt like you were finally getting rewarded for moving the ball and getting good looks. Too many times in previous 2Ks have I played excellent team ball only to miss the shot and watch my opponent score a cheesy basket on the other end. It might have been a little over excessive (especially the green releases) but it felt good.

When the game shipped, open shots were knock down for pure shooters. I think the biggest penalties need to come from those halfcourt and contested shots.

If there was a way to go to pre patch shooting, then just juice contested and halfcourt shot penalties it'd be the best of both worlds. Really the biggest gripe for the patch in the 1st place was the Limitless Range and Deep Range Deadeye halfcourt and fully contested threes being knocked down at an insane clip. But if the Open threes can go back to being knocked down at the rate they were before patch that would be perfect for a lot of people i think. Reward open shooters, penalize the bad shots.

Either way, thanks for the updates Mike!

Guys we also have to remember the game came out September 16th - today is October 4 - not even a month has passed. Usually it took 2k much longer to fix things or even say they would. Atleast we get feedback from Mike too and his updates.
