This is the single most incisive thing said by anyone in any of the VC threads, ever.

It is financially and psychologically to gamers' advantage to simply swear off these modes because they are being designed on a pure addiction model, including (ahem, DD in the Show) "saving" special rewards and events for later in the cycle when the buzz is wearing off.

Devs have every right to do this, but it is a return of 80's Wall Street "greed is good" style capitalism. Very little regard or respect for the consumer as a human being. And YES, lots of successful companies operate in more of a middle ground. So save the "You're so naive, that's business!" Responses.

You make a good point there....I won't deny that it's been very successful in the short term; judging by the debates and dissatisfaction I am seeing on these boards and on other sites, I question how sustainable it will be in the long run.

They have changed the cost of hair cuts, colors and stuff to 100VC.

desperate move to calm down the user base imo.

even ign has addressed vc in their recent review:

Those are all steps forward, but NBA 2K18 has also taken a significant step back by bringing microtransactions to a place that feels uncomfortable. They were around last year, but now you’re forced to use virtual currency to buy everything from a tattoo to a T-shirt, as well as increasing your character’s stats. You can earn this currency by playing – very slowly – but if you buy the $150 version of NBA 2K18 you can get a big boost with the currency that comes with it. You’ll see plenty of those artificially high-rated players around, and it feels like we’re being steered toward spending money to avoid an insane amount of hours spent grinding for points.

This haves and have-nots problem is magnified because, again, individual players on the court play much more closely to their strengths and weaknesses than before. So when you start out, your 60-rated player is pretty much bad across the board. The people who paid money and have better skills are still not great at everything, but no one is going to want to play with your 60 because you’re now even more of a liability. It just feels really perplexing to make a competitive online mode so focused on character stats, because that means getting up to speed means either paying out money or grinding for hours to make yourself viable. Most competitive first-person shooters hide cosmetics or at worst maps behind a paywall rather than more powerful guns because that would throw off the balance, and this is no different. It’s a dangerous slide into pay-to-win territory.

im still going to drop the vc after i complete my first season because i actually enjoy feeling like a rookie and progressing forward because it feels more realistic but yeah you guys got screwed with vc big time this year if your somebody who prefer relying on vc from mycareer to upgrade your player or at least get him somewhat decent.

live isnt competition either, this is just money hungry.. smart move because of the new "neighborhood playground" that alone urges people to buy vc.

$110 dollars 60 for the game, 50 to max out your guy to 85. yuck

I wish VC would be refunded if I decided to delete my MyPlayer, I would like to make new one but I don't want to restart the grind...

You are a brave man to admit this in this forum.

And thank you for helping to ruin the game.

898 VC from my last game on 6 minute quarters, then played full 12 minute quarter game. 902 VC from that full game. Both with A+ rating and scored pretty well too. Also personal deals are paid per game played so longer periods don't make any sense whatsoever. Weird.

Anyone notice you can't even see how much VC you have from the main menu lol?

I literally have to either load up MyTeam or open the app.

Well, I used the VC glitch (that is now fixed) to get to 80k VC and I am not ashamed.

Check out our NBA 2K18 Review to find out why there's a lot to like about the basketball sim, but there's also a gross side that can ruin the entire game.

The entire premise of MyCareer is built around trying to raise your DJ-turned-baller into a superstar with an in-game rating of 99. That’s a tempting proposition at first, as the player winds up progressing at a steady pace early on as they can buy several skills after every game, but after the first couple dozen games they find out that there’s a wall. What makes it even more ridiculous is that the currency used to upgrade your skills is also used to buy in-game items such as shoes, special animations so that your player has some flair on-court, and even haircuts cost as much as a skill point. There’s a constant trade-off, and it feels straight up predatory with how the game will tell the player that they could forego actually playing the game if they just spent some extra money in order to progress.

He pretty much says what I've been saying all along; while the game plays great, ultimately it feels like bait to hook the player, then get them spending all sorts of RL money on VC.

In some ways,it reminds me of the old scam appliance stores used to (and sometimes still) do....they advertise some item at a seemingly fantastic price, then when you get into the store you find out it is the worst or most basic product available, and the salesman hits you with the high pressure sales pitch (You don't want that one, it's not good at all, let me show you these over here, they'd be MUCH better for you...).

Next thing you know, instead of buying the $200 TV they saw advertised, most people have been talked/pressured into dropping $2000 on some super fancy TV, accessories, "maintenance agreements",delivery, and so on.

i was wondering, since os is a pretty big site, they should have the resources and the contacts to get in touch with someone from 2k. it would be interesting to hear what they have to says about all the criticism they've been facing since 2k18 was released (just look at metacritic, the user score is 3,6 atm, based on almost 150 ratings).
