To be completely transparent, I'm not nor ever will be a fan of Kobe Bryant. He, like Dirk & Shaq, was my favorite teams rival for too many years for me to be a fan. Yet, I can still call a spade a spade and say he's the 2nd greatest SG ever, a clear first ballot HOF'er and a legend.
I respect his talent, work ethic and drive, but a lot of aspects of his game (too many to detail) are extremely overrated or sensanilitzed by him, the media and (mostly) his fans.
Has nothing to do with my "hate" since his career is over and he is no longer relevant (in a contemporary sense) in the modern NBA.
It is only an issue for me because it exemplifies what is wrong with 2K's ratings scale and process. They need to stop over inflating certain attributes, while lowering other one's for other players, to help align overall ratings with a certain narrative or "spot." Use data (where available), context, logic and scouting tools to improve ratings overall. Stop selling a "sim" product that uses limited data, ratings/tendencies that don't correlate with reality and moves players can't/won't do.
Stauffer tries his best and does a (for the most part) commendable job, but sports video games in general need to move faster in "realistically" depicting athletes.
Also, I'm quite aware these are "fantasy" teams and not the be all, end all for actual all - time teams. A little research, thought and care in the process would make these teams/players more fleshed out. Meaning they would be a more realistic interpretation of the players actual physical prime. I'm going to assume they just jack up the best players (Bird, Jordan, Johnson, Abdul - Jabbar, Chamberlain, etc) to 1,000,000 and the second tier players/role players will be all over the map.
