Re: NBA 2K18 AI Improvements Blog From Scott O’Gallagher
Saw an interesting vid on YT (Coach Daniel) about how the Bucks were help defending on drives/PnRs (X out rotation on the weak side).
I'd be amazed if this was in the game - but I don't think I'd be surprised considering the detail that appears to be in the game thus far.
I like that fact that we can talk to OG throughout the year and these things can be added in.Comment

Love, love, love this blog!
It is so encouraging to see all the new defense-centric features. Building upon the great offensive improvements we saw last year, I expect this to be the best 2K gameplay yet! We know the devs at VC pay close attention to feedback and it shows, so kudos to them.
Can you guys speak about any new badges or sliders we may see this year? Purely speaking from a defensive standpoint, one change that was unexpected last year was the removal of the Interceptor badge even though Pick Pocket managed to stick around. So has Interceptor returned?
Has anything changed in terms of pass perception? It seemed like some big man defenders had a supernatural sense to perceive where passes were coming from if they were standing in the paint in 2K17. With your stated emphasis on player sight-lines for this year, does that mean a defender with their head turned may miss out on an opportunity to pick off a pass even though they're in a good position? Are there any new animations for good quick defenders jumping out in front of a pass on the perimeter to lead to a quick transition?NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

Re: NBA 2K18 AI Improvements Blog From Scott O’Gallagher
First of all, THANKS A LOT, for listening to our needs and wants, even more for your contributions and that of the whole team to this game we all love !
Stand corrected on what was once posted here.
On another note, some questions tho ...
How would changes made within roster edits (to coaches preferred systems and their ratings, proficiency) or myleague edits (even with coaches or players movement) impact the on court actions ?
I mean, lets say I edit Kerr to be more of a perimeter oriented system coach, would that affect the type of plays called and the types of defensive tactics ? What if I decrease his rating within that system, what happens ? What if he is fired and Thibodeau, or a supposedly a defensive oriented coach comes in , how does that translate into on court ?
What if Draymond is no longe a part of the team, how does that affects ACE ? And what about the team he is a new part of then ? Lets center on the D part alone ?
Interesting and really important question, how much difference can we expect from an AI performance point when comparing the prelude vs the game 1st day patch ? like a jump of somewhat 20% better and more complete behavior, dont get tied to my suggestions or words here, just use your owns to describe itLast edited by ffaacc03; 08-29-2017, 11:19 PM.Comment

I love the new changes but have a few questions.
Do the coaching systems have influence on the freelances you play, or can you still play 5out with a postcentric coach without any issues?
And can you save the defensive settings and use them online or can you atleast change them before an online game?Comment

Hey Scott,
Great blog! I can't wait to play around with all of the new features.
One thing I feel like we really struggled with last year was discovering how the defensive settings work. It looks like you guys made strides to correct that with the new menu with diagrams and more in-depth descriptions which I really appreciate.
However, I think this will only take us so far when trying to optimize our defensive gameplans. One thing that I thought we were really missing last year that could have helped was to have all of the defensive settings available in the Scrimmage mode, where we don't have to worry about timeouts, shot clocks, etc.
Any chance that made it in this year?Twitter: @ScottOGallagherComment

Sweet baby Yeezus!
I was really, really.......really going to get Live this year but after seeing this that will be hard, no way I'm buying both.....those days are over for me.
I have to remember that 2K always ships with more bugs than an Indian families mattress so that's gonna be one big thing to make me want to hold off but the big thing is can it be possible that 2k has WAY to much happening under the hood which makes this game always play so wonky? As far as tendencies etc, there is a lot going on. It's like a gift and a curse. Slider makers beware it's like tinkering with this beast will be a never ending process.Comment

Re: NBA 2K18 AI Improvements Blog From Scott O’Gallagher
First off, this is not 3 seconds. If you look at the shot clock, it's barely 3 full seconds. It goes from 9-6 which isn't necessarily indicative of 3 full seconds, and you can see the defender begin to slide out as it approaches 3 full seconds.
Also many real defenses, even in playoff games have players they treat as non-factors from 3. Ben Simmons has shown to be one of those players attempting only 3 three pointers in his last full season of basketball while making one. He's probably rated in the high 50s at best as a 3 point shooter and can afford to be ignored on the perimeter. Tony Allen and Roberson come to mind as guys who have been completely ignored by defenses when they are behind the line.
How the Warriors started ignoring Tony Allen and completely shut down Memphis' offense
Here is a full video of literally no one guarding Roberson
I get the concern, but to me this clip doesn't heighten those concerns. I'm sure the CPU defender has logic in place to not leave Klay or KD this open.
It's about camping in the lane. I don't think anyone is viewing this with a stopwatch in hand.
Porter has 3 seconds to be actively guarding someone within arm's length. In the video he's simply guarding space for what looks like 3 seconds and that is illegal.
I have no problem with the logic or what they're trying to do. My concern is the execution because it is so blatantly obvious.
It's looks like they've set up a defensive shift in baseball.Comment

Re: NBA 2K18 AI Improvements Blog From Scott O’Gallagher
Not sure if this was a thing in past 2Ks - but I'll ask;
Is it possible to set where the double team comes from (baseline/middle) for post up defense?
Or are we just leaving that up to the user to do manually?Comment

Re: NBA 2K18 AI Improvements Blog From Scott O’Gallagher
Regarding IQ of CPU players and the AI of Double teams ... would the players IQ be involved in terms of from where do a low or high IQ player comes to double, like they come from the weakside or the strong side ?
Solely IQ ...
Do IQ of players influence the recognition the AI does on the opponents ratings and the distance they then give to opponents, be it that they are guarding close or loose ?
Do IQ of players impact the spacing they give when running a set or play ? the effectiveness of the contact by screens they set ? the side from which they do the screen to aid the ball handler ?
etc, etc ... Or ... is it just tied into pass perception ?Comment
