I don't play online at all. And I wouldn't spend an actual dime on VC. But offline I completely dominated with my 55 overall player last year. I played the story on pro, I believe. I even led the league in 3 point shooting like 54% or something ridiculous. At the start of my second season I had upgraded my dude to like an 85 or 87. I played one game (to see if there was any more story left) of the new season and it was almost too easy. You can totally dominate offline without purchasing VC if you want.

Re: 200,000 VC to upgrade player to 85
If the grind is as heavy* as they say it is, it should be more expensive to skip it. I would feel cheated if I worked super hard to get to an 85 and that's easily matched by a guy with no time who just had $40 extra dollars to spare. It's one of the reasons I don't play GTA V anymore. The grind will never amount to disposable income.
Also I only spend minor VC on upgrades, because I want to be reasonably & realistically skilled, not come in as a rookie already better than most the guys in the league.

Re: 200,000 VC to upgrade player to 85
Honestly, I'd have no problem grinding the old fashioned way if it were quicker and if I didn't work like 60 hours a week. I'll jump to 85, then work my *** off to get higher.
This is what it boils down to every time on the VC vs. No VC argument. I've even seen it suggested that people who work should not bother playing since they don't have time to play the "right way".

Re: 200,000 VC to upgrade player to 85
Truly am glad that VC is an option should I ever get too busy to play the grind. This is coming from an almost strictly offline player.
It is nice the option is there. "The problem is the punks with their dad's credit card" well I'm sure he'll get the whoopin he deserves when dad finds out won't he?
What's the alternative? "If you can't spend 'x' months grinding then play something else"?
Hell no.
And good Jesus it's not that hard to beat a 90+ scrub with a 70-80 guy anyway.
Like stated before, an incredibly overblown subject.Comment

Re: 200,000 VC to upgrade player to 85
I can't think of another 5 on 5 online mode besides this one, where when the game is bought, users are presented with two options:
1. Grind for many hours, days, weeks, to get your player to be skilled enough to compete online
2. Pay for a shortcut
A happy medium to me is if they started us somewhere near 70, so that our player at least has a single valuable skill, and be able to contribute because of good IQ.
There is a grind in FIFA but you are still capable players and are rewarded for good play. If someone joins the team later in the year they can slot right in, instead of saying "Give me a few days where all I do is play offline against the CPU so I am not a liability."
It literally took me like 2 weeks to get to 88 on last year's game. Play well, on Hall of Fame, and you get at least 1000 VC a game.
Then there are things like endorsements which boosted that up.
I don't care either way I don't play online because it's all pay to win. That's the model and idiots soak it up and pay for it.
Getting to an 88 took about 150k. So if you add endorsements, accolades, mobile app, etc., then it sounds like you played nearly an entire season in two weeks?Last edited by ph33; 09-06-2017, 03:46 PM.Comment

Re: 200,000 VC to upgrade player to 85
I wouldn't mind the VC cost of your player actually started off as an NBA-caliber player. But you are slower and weaker than everyone else in the league, have the worst shooting and ball handling attributes, etc.
Considering that in the story mode, you are generally pegged as the next MJ, it makes no sense, and it's incredibly frustrating to be a player with the skills and athleticism of a high schooler in the NBA.
I don't have the time or patience to play 3 seasons just to upgrade one player, especially if this isn't the only video game I play.Comment

Re: 200,000 VC to upgrade player to 85
You have to actually play the game more to rank up. What's wrong with that?
I thought we liked this game?
This new mode is called the "Road to 99". It's supposed to be difficult and rank 99 is a status symbol. It's not called the "Road to quickly get to 88, then get to 99 shortly thereafter so it's fair to everyone" mode.
Also, people complain every year about those guys on the park that pay real money to get their guys leveled up high quickly are now saying those guys having to pay MORE is BAD?

How is that a problem?

But I do have a big objection to starting a player as low as they have you start at, in a mode that they're trying to tout as a competitive E-Sport.
You can't really be an E-Sport if a lot of it revolves around a heavy grind or paying for a shortcut.Last edited by ph33; 09-06-2017, 04:00 PM.Comment
