Re: I give up. I must be too old. Game is too hard.
I don't think a lot of people realize age can catch up to a person, even with video games. I'm 33, and have been around since before the very first 2k. (First basketball game I actually played a lot was Kobe Bryant's Courtside on N64. Bet y'all don't remember that one, lol.)
Not saying this game is hard in any way (because it definitely isn't), but I can definitely tell how my reaction time, thought process, and overall game has slowly been diminishing lately. I don't play as reactive as I used to, finding myself overthinking in a lot of situations, which can sometimes lead to a string of bad plays. For some reason, I've been having a lot harder time with timing my shots recently as well, and I'm not as consistent as I used to be. Probably why I've just been sticking to my Pure Rim Protector more and more, since I don't have to worry about offense, and because I can predict players with almost uncanny accuracy on passes and at the rim on defense.
It sucks, but it's the inevitable truth. At least for me.Last edited by Caelumfang; 03-12-2018, 04:24 AM.Comment

I was never some kind of E-League gamer, but a normal round of COD/BF for me was at, or a little above, a 2:1 kill-to-death ratio. Now, it's more like 0.7:1. Basically anytime I have more kills than deaths I count that as a win nowadays. Again, there are other factors that go into that besides just age, but I've definitely started to notice the age factor in my gaming.Comment

Now, part of it is simply that I don't have nearly as much time for gaming anymore. So I don't learn the maps inside-out, and I don't have the time to develop the muscle memory to get really good/fast at aiming. But it's more than that. I've noticed that I just don't think on my feet quite as quickly as I used to, and my reaction time is just a tick slower.

Re: I give up. I must be too old. Game is too hard.
This is what I've been talking about for years when people swear by hall of fame modes. I always say those settings are not for the best basketball IQ's on a video game. those settings are for people who play these games, see the exploits and abuse the hell out of them to make the game a lot less competitive to them. so then they need to have things nerfed to make the playing field some what even. This tells me the game itself is extremely flawed.
The reason the OP shoots so poorly with westbrook. is because he isnt abusing the pick and roll and blow by animation exploits. when he does beat his man off the dribble, he gets to the rim and theirs a defender close by. So this causes him to BRICK his layups a lot. truth is, no one is bricking layups in the nba in real life thats rated 75 or higher on the game.Comment

because he's making a choice to not abuse exploits. or he doesnt know of them.

I remember the days when I would do a 10 hour marathon of ghost recon ...every single night.
Time is definitely mostly the problem.Comment

Re: I give up. I must be too old. Game is too hard.
Go to 2KU and scrimmage with the Thunder versus other teams. The scores don't count there, so you won't lose. It's good for practicing whatever you like.
Start using Icon Passing to pass to the intended player (R1 for PS4, RB for Xbox One) if you can't pass.
Use lead passing when you see a big running into the paint on a fastbreak. Use bounce passing as a way to trick the AI. Use lob passing to a post player.
Move the ball. Make the extra pass especially in the paint. Swing the ball. Drive and kick. You have freaking Westbrook (lol). Drive and kick to a wide open Melo and PG. That's the easiest thing you can learn. Turbo your butt to the paint and pass to one of the open shooters.
Call ISOs in the play calling menu.
There's a lot of stuff you can do. Trust me, I have zero idea about basketball fundamentals, okay. I play a version of SSOL (more like 10 seconds or less) with a lot of ball movement and drive and kick. I've played the same style for almost 8 years. Ask me what a curl or flare screen is, I wouldn't know what you're talking about. I do know one thing...Pass the open guy the ball and shoot the damn thing. I know that.
Also, I didn't see any paragraphs about defense. Can you at least play it? You're the Thunder. One of the best defensive teams in the league. Half of your points should be fastbreak and Points off Turnovers. Good defense gets you easy buckets on the other end. Defense is very important. Play on-ball and off-ball defense. Mostly on-ball. Try to contest with the right stick instead of blocking because a clean block will be called a foul most of the time.
I don't think age is catching up with me. A lot of people say Middle Earth: Shadow of War is difficult, but I am so good at it that it's become too easy. I don't play games much anymore like you guys.
I hope this helps!Comment

I have enough time for maybe 1.5 games per week. 2 on lucky weeks. Any time practicing is less time I have to play. I’ll be practicing for nothing. [emoji4]
As far as defense no I’ve never had a fast break in 35 games. I honestly can’t remember a single one. And barely force any turnovers. I’m a year into the league so no more melo or Paul George. Team still won the championship even without them when I simmed year 1.Last edited by Qrashman; 03-12-2018, 06:30 PM.Comment

Re: I give up. I must be too old. Game is too hard.
I know you’re just poking fun at yourself and don’t actually want any “help”, but I’m going to suggest a couple of really simple things anyway:
- Not sure what camera angle you’re playing on, but try 2K and zoom out as much as possible to see more of the court. Makes the game easier to read.
- In settings, change shooting to real player %. Shooting < 35% and 27% with Westbrook is a killer. That’s why you’re losing. With real player %, it’s not about timing your shot, it’s about getting good looks. You won’t be missing easy layups that way and Westbrook will be much more effective for you given his attributes. I wouldn’t play the game any other way besides real player %. Game changer for mine.
- On defense, play off ball not on ball. Take control of a wing, either your worst defender or whoever is guarding their worst attacking player. Or just pick someone not in the action. If they swing the ball towards you or to your guy, change player again. That way you won’t be caught in P&R situations or getting beat off the dribble by the CPU and can freelance more, play help defense and gamble some for turnovers. After their shot, you can either crash the boards to rebound or box out, or run hard on the fast break for an easy bucket.
- Freelancing on offense is hard if you’re struggling with the game. Have playcalling on auto with full play vision displayed.Comment

Re: I give up. I must be too old. Game is too hard.
I think it's just a time difference. I'm 35 guys.... And I'm sure I could whip any young buck in here. Problem is I don't have time for that anymore. I'm getting married this. Trying to have kids. Trying to buy my first house. I got a lot of things on my mind. Now my games are about having good games. And that's where people lose it. It's about having fun.
I've been actually playing Switch the last few weekends. And it's just good feeling to invite friends over and play Mario Kart.
One of my favorite online games on the PS3 was Aliens vs Predator, and there were times where I would be (playing as an Alien) tracking my target, dodging fire, while running on the ceiling (so that everything was upside-down for me), manipulating the camera to line up a jump to the wall next to my target, and calculating how my perspective would change so that I could immediately launch and land a heavy attack. To be honest, it gives me a headache just even thinking about trying to do all that nowadays lol. I'm now more inclined to pop in XCOM than Call of Duty.Comment

I actually think I've gotten better with age, lol...I entered my first fighting game tourney in my 30's...I've come to appreciate the more technical side of things....that's what I can appreciate about some of 2k's mechanics....
but at the end if the day its all in fun...I've put so much mileage on these legs playing actual ball (and still am, icing up right now) I just dont take digital ball all that serious anymore...thats probably helped, lol
Congrats on all thats upcoming jeebs....
