Why did you stop playing NBA 2K18?

I have seen some posts declaring NBA 2K18 as a "debacle" and things of this nature.

I totally respect different things make different people like/dislike NBA 2K18.

I still play it and feel it is the best one of this generation personally.

But seeing as we're this close to 2K19, the fear of reading a "game breaker" is now low for me haha - keen to hear what were the major gripes of the game for everyone.

I'll post mine later - but as stated, I still play it and I still enjoy it overall.

because defense is horrible especially cpu can't stop pick and rolls plays, there are alot bad clipping especially steal ball.. that's it. i am glad that 2k did overhauled on defense gameplay including rebuilt steal system, ai cpu improvement on defense. no more blow by defender.. less clipping for NBA 2k19

I can't fathom why people hate 18 more than 17 gameplay wise. That game was the real debacle. 18 is the best game since 14 imo and I'll be playing it until 19's midnight release.

I've enjoyed 18 enough, it's not perfect, but it's definitely better than '17, agree with the post calling that one a debacle. There's been periods where I stop playing, but I'm back at it again and having fun lately.

Took me three weeks to put 2k18 down. Played a few more exhibition games once the playoff rolled around, but that's a poor $60 dollar value of entertainment.

                1. Otto Porter defense, allowing for a wide open 3.

                3. "I got ball" feature ... poorly done, not what I expected. Had the impression I could manually press an "I got ball" button to wave off my defensive teammate. Not the case. If I run up to the ball handler with ANY player, I expect my teammate to leave and pick up someone else.

                4. Can't tell my teammate to "stop" switching on defense. If I want to use Durant to lockdown on Lebron, I don't want Curry to switch onto Lebron when I could have easily fought around the screen.

Re: Why did you stop playing NBA 2K18?

2k18 had issues but I liked it better than 2k17 for one major reason. I didn't see players caught on picks and carried halfway across the court.

I stopped when I started playing MLB the Show

Good response and good examples. I can't disagree with the fact that fundamental defensive issues are probably the biggest issues I've come across personally. In 2K17 the weak side PnR defense was simply not present and it was a game breaker. I literally stopped playing because of it.

Your examples are good ones and I agree they are all issues. They didn't stop me from playing 2K18, but they did irk me a fair bit.

                    Nice post as usual strawberryshortcake!

You could actually play shutdown defense in 17 if you weren't getting brick wall screened; that badge and its accompanying animations were my biggest issue with last year's game.

But looking past that brick wall nonsense, the steal button in 17 was very effective if timed correctly. Overdribbling into traffic would usually knock the ball loose instead of letting it harmlessly ghost through defenders' limbs/bodies like you see all the time in 18. Blow bys and standing contact dunk animations thankfully did not exist yet.

Contested shots usually missed in 17, as pure sharps couldn't consistently green smothered/heavily contested looks last year.

The dribbling controls were a lot more fluid and responsive in 17, with no walking sizeups or automated hand-switching animations unintentionally interrupting your combos.

Post scorers were dominant forces in 17 that required double teams or one really good lockdown defender to stop.

Adding height and/or weight would noticeably slow down your player in 17, creating a larger speed gap, and offering a more realistic trade-off for using smaller/lighter MyPlayers over taller/heavier builds.

The max height for speed boosting playmakers was the much easier to defend 6'8", not the unguardable 6'10" demigods that 2K18 allows.

                      With all that said:

                      16 >>>>>>>>> 17 >>>>>>>>>> 18

The Pro Am/MyTeam/MyPark portions of the game have gotten progressively worse each year since 16.

Why did I stop playing 18.

                          1. Defense is an unadulterated mess and it didn't improve from 17.
                          2. A.C.E. is literally mentally challenged on the Defensive end.
                          3. Horrific Rebounding by any measure
                          4. Play calls, call a play and it's a predictable outcome there is no flow tech. Flow tech only happens sparringly in freelance.
                          5. Bad Defensive animations, what I mean is, they have animations to make the offense look successful. Mike Wang, still values offensive animations more than he does the defense. Just check his twitter feed. Defense is an after thought. 5 million offense animation 7 defense animation.

                          6. Developers "AND 1" mentality ridiculous dribbles that rarely happen in the NBA, they make a simple game with simple dribbles and counter moves a showcase in "STICK SKILLS" layoff the stick skills and focus on the brain games. Remember Bron said he wanted to play with smart players.

Being smart has no value in this game. Playing chess and still being on a level playing field with checker players, is why I don't play online. Your stick skills out weigh your strategy.

I don't hate the game I just hate the majority of players online.

I do take frequent breaks when I feel fed up with the game though. A few days sometimes a few weeks.

                              Agree with most of this.

Yes 18 "looks" better because of the fluid movement, but it plays awfully. Defense is a non factor.

My main mode in 2k is MyTeam after playing over 700 games in 2k17 and falling in love with the fantasy aspect of the mode and building teams based on your brand of basketball. My roster had guys like Jimmy Butler, Kawhi, PG, M Gasol, etc that were defensive stalwarts and I won against higher rated teams because of our stifling defence.

I start 2k18 MyTeam and defence doesn't exist. Trying to play a game this year is about who can make more 3pts. No matter who loses, both teams will shoot above 55% because no one can guard anybody and the CPU is braindead with rotations. Add to that that 2k made MyTeam cards even more overrated (people shooting near half court 3's like its a layup) and the mode is dead.

Stopped MyCareer 30 mins in after seeing that the mode is just a barrage of blatant advertisements for all the paying 2k partners.

I only occasionally play a PNO game or all star team up games but not nearly as much as I've played previous years
