yeah, madden's got whole engine change and PES' got some new dynamic global illumination middleware solution to the same engine.




they are all annual sports games and they all do something for better looks.
2k's using the same engine since 2k14 and they had 5 years to optimize it. isn't it time for users to expect some upgrades? 5 years for christ sake.

To be fair 2K has made various changes since 2k14, it's just debatable if those changes have been for better or worse. It's almost like they went all out for 2k14 and ever since they've been trying to "optimize" the game. Since 2k14 it seems that they'll make improvements in certain areas but downgrade in other areas.

I wonder if they're already due for a new engine. The change in engines for Madden certainly made a difference. PES's engine just seems more advanced than 2Ks. Tried the demo out for 19 yesterday and was quite blown away by the clarity of the image and the lighting.

Maybe it's me, but I feel you can't compare the lightning of an outside venue to that of an indoor venue....

I'm not comparing the lighting of PES to NBA2K.
the point was they did upgrade the existing engine for the better look.

Maybe it's me, but I feel you can't compare the lightning of an outside venue to that of an indoor venue....

I agree with this, but PES has great player models and are known for their eye to detail when it comes to jerseys. They are constantly tweaking their models and lighting.

It is mind blowing to me that the create a courts have better lighting than actual courts in 2k, or how certain arenas have the crowd lit, while others don’t.

It might be a catch 22 situation because 2k does give a lot more content then these other sports games, so maybe that has something to do with it, which is why I am looking forward to the release of the next gen consoles where maybe 2k can have a lot of content and look graphically pleasing. Just a thought and I am one of the ones not feeling the new graphical look of the game but I do appreciate all the content 2k provides.

So that legends edition Sapphire Lebron card will be almost useless day 1 or 2. Why didn't they just make it a amethyst to be comparable to the normal Lakers Lebron card? To have it be 2 tiers lower than the normal day 1 Lebron card seems like a weird card to give for the $100 edition.

It's almost like they went all out for 2k14 and ever since they've been trying to "optimize" the game. Since 2k14 it seems that they'll make improvements in certain areas but downgrade in other areas.

People rave about 2K14's graphics but does anybody remember how bare-bones that game was? It didn't have a fifth of the features we currently have in-game. You couldn't even create a player for MyCareer. I'm an artist myself, so some of these visual deficiencies do bother me (Bad scans, horrendous classic player models, missing significant tattoos, etc) but I'll always put gameplay over graphics.

If darker arenas allows them to have better dynamic lighting on players and on-court interactions, I'll take that 10/10 times. The crowd is full of a pattern of generic low quality faces that look better hidden anyway.

So are the Heat Check cards replacing the moments cards? If so, that could help with rating inflations. No more moments cards on the market that are 95+ in every offensive rating, so now the devs need to make throwback cards overrated because you can't release a prime Tmac card that is considerably worse than a Moments Donovan Mitchell or people would riot.

Having the Heat Check cards reset after 2 days is nice.

They did mention a new design for moments cards. So they are still in. Not sure what they changed about them.

Look no further than 2K14 to 2K15. 2K14 was gorgeous, but bare bones. 2K15 added ML and depth and it was dark and ashy. Like, why would they change to a darker game for nothing? I reinstalled 2K15 the other day on my 4K tv and Pro to play with the Euro league teams again. 2K15 is ugly and the lighting and face scans are world's better now. It's not even close.

If you are expecting 2K to suddenlyake a drastic change to arena lighting in the coming weeks, based on everything that's been shown so far, you are just setting yourself up for disappointment.

At this point I think we need to just accept that it's either an aesthetic choice by the art team or having to do with limits due to console power. Perhaps improving arena lighting would cause a detriment to frame rate or cause downgrades elsewhere.

I'm nearly 100% sure it is do to framerate issues with the better lighting from 2K14. That better lighting definitely taxed the consoles and is likely why they had to go with a "downgraded" (maybe to far of a degree) lighting system.

The Fox Engine is up there with Unreal, CryEngine and Frostbite in that is one of the best, advanced and most adaptable graphics engine out.

Whatever in - house tech 2K uses is solid (WWE 2K uses it as well) but isn't in those engine(s) league, IMO.

No mention of removing the MT requirements in Domination is a bit disappointing, they put so much emphasis on playing the game "properly" only to stick this in which just forces you to make plays based on MT rather than the best basketball play.

I've honestly never, ever touched a MyTeam mode in any sports game, but that Triple Threat mode sounds fun and I'll definitely give it a shot.

i know it’s kind of the way it is around OS but man the guys talking about lighting in every single thread makes the forum annoying to come to. lol i was tryna get some feedback on myteam and i gotta scroll through the lighting topic AGAIN.
