Screens don't work this year. The defenders just crawl around the screen and are back on you like glue. AI defense is off the charts.

And the only reason I'm constantly calling PNR is because dudes just offball and plays are busted, rarely does anyone get open.

The only 2 effective methods against offball I have found so far which are both quite cheesy is:

a) After you inbound call screen immediately and turbo so they hit the screen in the back court or around mid court. Even then it is not easy to position yourself so the defender gets stopped, they will still crawl around it at times. You will then have a clear path to the basket if you can time it right.

b) Similar but slow it down and call screen after you cross mid court in the corners so there is plent of space to work with. Again if you can time it right you will have a clear path. I used to hate this cheese tactic in other years but now that's all I can do against those that smother all game.

Cut to the basket doesn't work against offball this year the D is to good.

I have to counter cheese with cheese unfortunately.

I always see my opponents getting bailout animations that put them in favorable positions to score or get an offensive rebound.

Then when I have an angle, 2K will slide them right in front of me and make my layups a lot more difficult than it needed to be [emoji849]

That's how I feel too and I believe it's because if you onball you are not always in the right position defensively.

Where as with an offballer the AI will nearly always be in the right position or close to it so the dude just has to switch and/or start mashing jump as soon he sees the ball going up.

Game was laggy, so I was doing my usual offball/onball switching/putting defenders in their spots.

This guy scored 2 points in the 1st.....then the messages start pouring in. “Your trash, scrub, other swear words over the mic”.

I was like. Oh your getting mad because I’m not playing the game you want me too.......let’s roll, increase off ball D.

He scores 19 the entire game.

Who is the real scrub here ??

Be honest.....

We offballing or him only scoring 19 points.....lol.

If a guy offballed me I would score way more then 19.....I have counter game plans to attack that.

The point is I have to work so much harder to score than someone who just sits around and offballs and is rewarded for it by the game. I don't care on the principle of the thing there's no honour here lol. It's just ridiculous the AI is better than a human. What's the point? As someone said before the human is along for the ride in this AI controlled game.

Waiting around on defense. Running PNR all game on offense. Boring!

Anyone notice someone on the move receiving a pass and moving to the opposite direction does not get past the defender this year? The defender is still stuck on you. Doesn't make sense. The defender should be off balance with the sudden change in direction when running hard to catch up to the defender.....

Flow Freestyle creates so much motion that it's hard for the human player to keep up. If anyone plays My Career offline, then you'll know what's it's like getting killed by backcuts constantly or getting caught by a double screen chasing the off ball offensive player, lol. Most PNO players are not good My Career players, so I use that against them. Offball defenders and steal spamming has really been the least of my problems this year especially now that I'm developing a "chemistry" with the Pacers by being able to use them all the time.

The biggest reasons for my losses, of late, is that I can't hit open jumpers to save my life, and I keep passing the ball away, because LB passes to the player closest to the basket. I usually have my passing icons up, but I'll forget it's up when I hit LB for a screen. Another STUPID change by 2K Sports. Why the hell do I need a button to pass to the player closest to the basket when I got icons!?

Here are some quick tips that you'll see in the video on a few plays. Some of these I'm sure a lot of you know:

1) Take away the screen. If you see your opponent calling a screen, shade him away from it when you're playing on-ball. Think of it as a manual "ice".

2) Sprint through screens. I've noticed much better success personally from releasing L2 and then using R2 to quickly get around the screen.

3) Always contest with the right stick. That's not even an option. As has been discussed multiple times in the forum, L2 is no longer an automatic contest on jumpers. You have to contest yourself with the right stick

4) Get back on defense immediately after taking a shot on offense by sprinting back as quickly as you can. Do not wait to see if you got an offensive rebound. Or be like "them" trying to attempt a backcourt steal. And in transition find the shooter and sprint out to them. Giving up a layup is better than an open three.

5) And just like in real life, a late contest is not a good contest. So your goal should be to read the flow of your opponents offense and where your teams help is coming from and then you need to sprint out to the open shooter BEFORE the pass can be made.

I'm still experimenting, but I've breaking from the norm of M2M defense that I play. I've been using the 2-3 zone and fullcourt press. The 2-3 zone forces them to make one more pass on the perimeter while protecting the paint pretty well. These fools really only know how to score off the screens, because they're taking advantage of badge stacking.

Since the AI defense is so damn sticky in the backcourt, the press takes time off the shot clock and puts my opponent in a "hurry up" mentality. In years past, the press was easy to beat, because you could turbo past the first defender and all the way to the basket for uncontested shot due to bad rotation. Not this year.

I can get enough stops and bad shots to make my opponent change their tactic (and most of them suck at it), but I can't knock these open shots for nothing...sigh. Truthfully, that could change as I play with the Pacers more and more which gives me a chance to get used to their online releases.

Your missing my point. If someone offballed you could only score 19 points all game ?

a lot/all game. I attack the player he’s controlling/hiding on defense with. Sounds easier than it is to execute.

Yes 19 points is ridiculous. I can beat the Dubs with someone offballing but I have to work so much harder and this year it's not even Dubs it's really any team with the AI defensive boost they have.

I have not really tried attacking the user controlled player much and usually they will switch off immediately. I know it's not that easy so once again AI D prevails.

Lol nah. Your offence is definitely the goto for 99% of people I play. Just sprint up court while calling for a screen so they can jack up a 3. If anything that makes me more likely to play offball because the CPU does better at communicating with itself than I can with the CPU during PnR defence. When people play the way you described I'm more likely to play offball the entire time. If you want to cheese you can do that against the CPU while I clean up for them.

You can call series plays to get people moving, get switches to post up big men or iso smaller guys on bigger guys. There are ways to score other than the basic PnR cheese but you don't want to do it. People offball all the time but I'm able to score. My only problem now is defending the PnR cheese with 3pt shooters. Don't make excuses lol

IMHO, it's really not worth attacking your opponent when they play off ball. You'll just end up spending too much time chasing them, then you'll play yourself into taking a bad shot right when the shot clock expires. Just run the freelances (I still haven't touched the series, but I hear they're more lethal than the freelances), and you'll get more open looks due to the human player not paying attention as much as they should. Most people only play off ball, because they think the man they're guarding is only going to stay in one area of the court. Most times, I force them to switch to the center, but then I'll call for the screen . They can't run forever.

That's always been there. I've been using that feature for some years because I used to abuse Kevin Love's outlet passing after a rebound to hit Kyrie or LeBron in transition.

Exactly you have to WORK hard for your points. Meanwhile the other guy just takes it easy and off balls and then on offense runs around like a headless chicken jacking up whatever and it works.

It has? I swear this feature was never there while the passing icons were up. I have to check on NBA 2K16, since I have that downloaded to my X-Box.
