I genuinely question whether most people actually enjoy playing 2K, or are simply addicted to it. So while the earlier comment about crackheads making up most people online may be way off base, in some ways it's not entirely false - the online experience can feel a bit like a bunch of addicts roaming around, agitated, trying to get their fix but never actually finding lasting relief. Obviously a lot of online games have the same addiction problems, but 2K has taken it to the next level, celebrating people on 2K TV who openly admit to basically playing the game every waking moment. This is the community 2K have engineered and hoped to generate.

Sometimes it can take a bit of external perspective to shine a light on it. A while ago a friend unfamiliar with NBA 2K was casually watching me play while doing something else on their phone, and saw me enter the Gatorade gym. They kept watching for a few minutes and then started to burst out laughing. They couldn't understand what the hell I was doing (I was lifting weights I think), especially since I had already explained to them that it was a basketball game. I couldn't even really explain it without also laughing and shrugging (and have since realized the gym and the extra energy is pointless, but I digress). It kind of hit me then, as the perspective of my friend came to the forefront of my mind and I saw everyone else in the gym with those same eyes. This was a group of people mindlessly doing some arbitrary busy work 2K decided to include for no good reason, other than perhaps to squeeze in a paid endorsement.

I get these side games have their charms and arguably add to some sort of ideal of an immersive platform and not just a basketball game, but for whatever reason that moment just seemed ridiculous, and I could only explain it away as behaviors of addicts.
There could be some physiological truth to this comment. This game infuriates me beyond belief, but I still keep playing it. Other games, I might get mad for a moment, or I could be simply acting as a sore loser. This game...I must enjoy the feeling of being mad due to the adrenaline rush.

I have noticed a version of this as well; normally I am pretty quiet when I game aside from some light joking around, NBA2K19 and WWE2K19 are the only games which upset me enough that I catch myself starting to raise my voice at the screen.

Most other games if I die or fail a mission or whatever, I can deal with it as it is usually through some error on my part.Quite often in the 2K games, it feels like I am doing what I need to do correctly enough, yet the game just goes ahead and cheats me anyway, usually through some really cheap feeling type of animation "magic". Combined with the odd/uneven difficulty spikes, it often gives the feeling of being cheated simply for the sake of "difficulty". I think that's what upsets me more than anything.

Eventually, there comes a point in your life where you mature enough to realize that "beating the computer" just isn't worth getting incredibly angry for hours on end every day.

If basketball is your favorite sport, that's probably got to do a lot with it

Having no sliders for career is crazy some people have disablilities and 2k ingnores that they should be sued to death for charging for vc and not allowing people to set the difficulty and sliders so they can actually play the game they paid for these days finding the games worthless to buy cause can't play them and those games are all 2k

Couldn’t have said it better . The grind is definitely repetitive and can lead to compulsive behavior .

One problem I have with the grind myself is that I’m always weighing the opportunities cost . I could go to an actual gym , build another hobby , earn money , or hang with friends . Yet I’m doing repetitive drills , Gatorade boost , and XP grinding in mycareer for sometimes hours .

Exactly,it's the constant pressure from the game itself to keep up, either through mtx or spending 100% of your free time grinding which is the issue,at least if you want to play online.

Time is a commodity; they have realized this and are angling to strike a bargain with players to either give up the greater share of their free time to remain competitive, or pay to keep up in return for that free time back.

Nothing is more infuriating than seeing the devs fix VC glitches and not do anything about the errors in gameplay. Keep the grind damn near unbearable but don't do anything about issues that they hyped up before release (limitless is nerfed?? Shooting is difficult?? Variety in gameplay?!?!?!)

Lost me at this point, 2k20 is not getting bought day 1, ill wait for reviews. NHL and FIFA have incredibly friendly and enjoyable player modes. While 2K puts more attention and could easily make it just as if not more enjoyable if they stopped getting in their own way, they don't.

What's "mtx"? I've seen the term a couple of times now, but I don't know what it means.

                    mtx is short for Microtransactions.

I really hope they fix 19 so it becomes playable and fun and then i think i'll hang on to it for long time. this year learning the new approach to the game will take it's toll and i really don't have nor the time nor the will to go through simillar process again next year, or year after... as i said - 19 has great potential to be top notch and i will stop "seeking the holy grail" in the future. should be content with this one. as i am now with nhl 19 or the show 18... i'll stick to these ones for a longer time...

why would I waste my time and probably some years of my life by playing with randoms when I can just hop on with my friends?

I ain't gonna lie, I like having a good record just becuase I know what I'm worth, there's nothing more upsetting than losing a game you know you should have won just becuase some idiot doesn't give a s1hit.
Ive tried playing with randoms couple of times and 80% of the time it ended up in "tears" for me.. guy leaving his sharpshooter opponent 4 times in a row eating 15 points or guys just keeps on dribbling and not passing,no communication whatsoever.

I would also like a random park, no records or bull****.

2K Lost the race of SIM vs My Players years ago. Up until about 2k14 or 15 My Player mode was night and day. It wasn't about Arch Types, it wasn't about builds, badges, or VC points. You wanted to be good you had to grind for games and earn every skill point. Although graphics lacked my favorite of all was 2K10 and 11. It was about having fun and building a player. Not about getting game day of release and going in park with 85 player launching 3 point shots. It wasn't about oh I can only build 2 type of players only to compete so let me do what everyone else does. It wasn't a 3 point contest only and both online and offline were very much enjoyable. At the end of the day you build your character the way you wanted to not how 2K wanted to. Of course then cam the SIM players who started to cry asking for this and that and nerf this and nerf that. This is not fair and that is not fair. So here we are playing My Player the way 2K wants you to play and where there zero truth about the word "MY"

Attributes and skills mean nothing if sharp shooters, play makers, or stretch bigs is all people make. It's not about PF it's about guards and centers only. It's not about balance where some people pick certain type of players it's about 1 style. Offline is just as bad with just about everything toned down to force you to buy VC. You dont want to? Okay play thousands of games and good luck in the park.

I been with 2k since 2k10 when My Player was introduced. So I seen it all. All the ups and all the downs. Last year was bad but this year? Even worse. Instead of fixing the game and giving it a fun factor we get cut scenes and a 89 hour story mode. Instead of trying to figure out how can we balance build types and actually have player with actual type be good at something stick we get more things to buy with VC.

I honestly think 2K's My Player mode fun day are over and will never come back. Why fix something if there will always be people buying VC like candy and upgrading from day 1? The only last hope left for this mode is to give each build and type of player their own special advantage and cut everything else. If you are a Sharp Shooter then you should have almost zero defense, if you are Slasher you should not be able to shoot 3s easily, ect ect.

I been saying this many years now in other forums. 2K lost the battle for Sim vs My Player mode long ago and what we have today is the broken result of it all.

I think my biggest frustration this year is the on ball D from the AI. It's not realistic basketball.

IRL, guys who can handle can get by their defender. It's why on ball defenders in the NBA shade the ballhandler towards the help. The issue is that help D and rotating in a realistic fashion is still a work in progress for the developers, so they over compensate by making on ball D too tough.

What should happen is the ballhandler should go by the on ball defender but then most of the time a second defender slides in front, causing the ball handler to need to make a move or pass out. THAT is realistic NBA ball, not this glue on ball D and constant bumping of my ball handler that makes 1995 NBA D seems less physical.
