Re: NBA 2K20 Available Now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Post Impressions Here

I dont have the game yet, but im still just trying to see how players are saying it's miles ahead in terms of gameplay, when i see 2k20 played right next to 2k19, im not seeing anything thats vastly different or improved, i know you have to feel the game by playing it, and i played the demo for 2k20, and i know what 2k19 feels like, and this looks like it plays almost the same

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLT8eMGuyZo 2k20
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEGSpdq31HM&t=207s 2k19

Iv seen that the footplanting has apparently gotten better, but comparing these 2 videos i really dont see it. The down low and back to the basket play still looks awkward as heck to * 11:34 , 21:50.

23:50, how does Durant not go out of bounds? looks like NHL still at some points, maybe i need to touch up on my iceskating IQ to understand the gameplay im seeing

Play 20. It’s not the same game. Have put in 7 hours so far. Anyone who says it’s 19.5 is full of it

Question - i'm only seeing 4 freelance sets to choose from with my team in scrimmage and the games.

Is there a way to scroll like in years past, or are we limited to just 4?

And if so, can we edit the 4?

Like 23 said, you gotta play the game. I've been so caught up the gameplay and changes, that I haven't even bothered with my impressions. The game plays so much different when compared to what you see in the videos.

I am having fun. Have to get my passing back down a little.

Got blown out by Clippers. Kawhi was a dog.

Played Nets vs. Magic and thought I was going to blow them out. They didn’t jack 3’s to get back into it. Ran their over offense and Vucevic used all his weapons on offense. It was fun to watch and I was playing D against him trying to win. The trap just needs rotation on backside. They did the right thing trapping Irving, but any guard like that can split the double. Now sometimes they won’t leave shooters like Joe Harris which is smart, just have to tighten the double and rotation.

Speaking as someone who seriously struggled to get into NBA 2K19, I can confirm that this is not the same game at all. I think NBA 2K19 went too far in trying to replicate modern ball, but this game almost feels like 90s basketball at times due to its slower, more deliberate pace. The new controls give you complete freedom over the movement of your players and allow for a lot of great spacing action, and it's easier to protect the paint, which is part of the reason why All-Star feels too easy. The CPU keeps trying to score inside and I can shut down its offense by watching the paint. Tendency sliders should fix this, though.

My POV as someone who is also an outsider (and someone who messed w/ movement, jumping, etc sliders to try to 'fix the game'), is that it's mainly an adjustment of movement sliders. It's not exactly game speed cuz check 3:35. THAT PASS.

They also seem to have made people jump less on rebounds, which is another thing I had tried to achieve, but people's ability to rebound out of their area is pretty 'unsim.'

The downside of slowing down the movement speed, especially in cpu v cpu play, is that the computer spends so much of its time milling around not doing anything, so they only really get one look. However, the 1 v 1 moves of like Hakeem look a lot better than I remember. I was always trying to minimize the contact off ball and on ball so that the computer didn't get caught in slow motion pushing matches (cuz slowing down game speed was one of the first things I did.)

There's no real action outside of the play, it's dudes that are kind of poorly spaced off ball hugging each other. It's cpu v cpu, but it does look unrealistically slow (they probably did slow game speed, but not to the level that they slowed player speed.) The floatiness of rebounding jumps really stands out. It's definitely 'different.'

The speed of 19 isn't wrong in a lot of parts, but it's still off (too fast.) Still, it's way closer to reality than whatever moon gravity 20 is haha.

7:15- unrealistic speed bursts apparently still happen. If you get down with 2k still, I can say by looking (cuz I got da gift) it's definitely different. Whether you'll like it is hard to say.

There hasn't been a 2K this gen that has played exactly the same as the last, regardless of how things may have looked in any pre release clips. This year is no exception. Comparing videos isnt going to do tell you a lot....

I say rent it if you're worried it's not for you...pretty much your best bet..

Probably a better discussion for the Q&A thread though, I dont think one has been started yet.

Yes, in the in game pause menu you'll see Offensive Settings. In that tab you choose the 4 freelances you want access to in game.

Still that awful sucking animation where you can be basically completely in front of your defender and it’s pulling you back.. open lane for a fast break? No magnets pulling back on you triggering a hip ride animation all the way to the corner.. not a fan

First step and change of direction still way too slow. I understand they want to kill the turbo spamming, but doesn’t feel right watching NBA athletes look like they are trying to explode out of quicksand. Players still feel a bit slow overall, too many laggy looking steps to get anywhere on the court.

Aside from that, this game is amazing. Best looking 2K game ever, dribbling, shooting, everything feels much better this year compared to last. Skin tones the best they’ve ever been in any 2k game. Lighting great, jerseys great, sweat great, I’m digging this game a **** ton more than 2k19..
