Re: How does the OS community feel about shooting in NBA 2K20?

Ok - sorry I know I'm asking this question in March but bought the game last month. I also searched before hand if anybody noticed that and all I found is "better not use the visual shot meter" which kind of lead me to what I'm about to say and ask.

While creating my playbook I noticed that 3pt are kind of hard to hit this year. So I practice and notice that - at least with good 3pt shooter - I can just press the shot button and simply not release it to have a way better percentage. Contested or not.

At first I thought that it was just in practice mode, or because of the sliders or the difficulty.... but no.
Not releasing the button just makes you a better shooter. I've tried also this things with mid range, post up... same.

I have to lower the sliders way down - like close to 20 or less - to have them miss.

Obviously real % doesn't do that.

Test it and let me know.

But if I'm right that would explain why everybody say that shot meter off is better. Maybe because it's even more broken than we thought.

EDIT: Actually after more testing it seems that it's more the sliders or the difficulty (allstar). Or a mix of both. Weird.

Hello i just play this game about amonth or so.. I think shooting in this nba2k20 is very bad for offline casual player. I try practice mode with tony parker on all-time spurs. even shooting 2 points near the rim is have bad percentage. they don't care about the meter unless it's green. very different than nba2k19. This nba2k20 sucks for shooter...

So, I've been thinking on this almost all cycle and I think the answer is it depends.

In MyTeam, shooting is pretty good. Just about right where it should be with the meter on. HOWEVER, meter off gives an artificial and unfair advantage. I'd like to use it, but just can't on principal as it makes "automatic makes," which I don't believe should exist, too easy.

Play Now Online is a different beast altogether though. In Tier 1, shooting is right where it ought to be. Maybe even a little high. Tier 2 and 3 with current teams? Shooting is abysmal. I recently had a game where my Kings and his Blazers shot a combined 6-25, with me contributing 5-20, with most of those being "wide open" coverage. These two teams are in the top 11 in three pointers, each of them north of 35% a night, and they're combining for 23%. 2-3 zones and the like are all too common and stymie even the best shooting offenses just by watching them brick.

Just bring back shooting to where it was last year please.

I'm sick of running plays and moving the ball just to brick wide open full whites while some dude can off ball in a zone and throw cheesy full court passes with his center for easy dunks and layups.

Re: How does the OS community feel about shooting in NBA 2K20?

I can't really speak too much on other modes...I didn't touch much of MyLeague this year (though obviously that can be tweaked with sliders), and I only dabbled in Play Now Online.

With PNO, I've only played 16 games but I generally found shooting to be about what I would hope for. Some games I was greening every shot, some games I was off. On the average, I would say it felt about right in those games. Not sure if the difficult itself increases as you move up the ranks, but I ended up in the JuCo level by the time I finished those 16 games.

With MyCareer, park, rec, etc. I think shooting remains too easy, as it is every year. I do think this year was a step in the right direction, but I wish they'd make it more difficult still. Shooting 50% from 3 point range shouldn't be considered an off game like it is in those modes, though I guess this is what happens when every player is technically a star in terms of overall.

On a related note, this thread kinda points to why it's got to be so difficult to be a gameplay guy for games like this. There's no real consensus on how the game should play and 2K ends up in a position where they pretty much have to piss one group off to make the other group happy.

I've been playing NBA 2K since the first one on Dreamcast 20 years ago and at some point I guess the game passed me by because for the life of me I can't figure out how to get a perfect shot other than for layups and free throws. Every time I'm getting either "Slightly Early" or "Slightly Late" and I miss every time, so much so that I'm only shooting as a team for 20-something percent. I've tried both button timing and Shot Stick timing and get the same result.

Is there a way to play with the old shooting mechanic in this game?

Just because you had " full white" release doesn't mean you need to hit everything. Who are the shooters that you are using? What is their rating? Remember, that around 80 3pt rating equals around 35% in real life shooting.
