That's what I was trying to get at. Playing against Steph, he would jack up threes and bury you. Now was that the way it was at launch? Not 100% sure, and I like you care more about what happens in the actual game that I am playing more tha. Sim stats.

I do remember his tendencies and ratings being updated, and him launching all over the place and knocking down threes at a pretty high rate.

I also enjoyed the gameplay overall of 2K15 over 2K16, because it still had quite a bit of 2K14 in it feel wise.

Shots on the move can be made like you stated in 2K16, so can some protected shots. But, something didnt feel right about it. And feel is incredibly important.

Yeah, basically. I like the game to feel a certain way, and yea 14/15 was the best feel for me. Even if it was a little easier. I wish they had more sliders to tinker with and could fix some AI issues.

It's not like I didn't enjoy 16, too. But I mostly played online. I was playing in mygm with 95-96 sonics and I was like GET OFF ME on hall of fame/sim every time I tried to get space for a jumper. I could get by people and all that, but I couldn't properly set up for what felt like a pull up J.

But I liked that blocking foul, charging foul, and lose ball foul sliders seemed to work.

It might be the 'on ball d' slider (which I've found usually makes the cpu play off further both on and off ball.) The only thing is the computer already leaves the opponent wide open way too often, and I won't play without matched sliders. There isn't a body up sensitivity slider, and even if you lower the take off contest for Js to 0, they are more make-able but they don't look right.

If you have a good player and you want to get a jumper, you should be able to. Can you live off those jumpers, maybe not, but taking them 'feels' good to me. It helps keep the percentages and stats looking real.

Re: NBA 2K16 still holds up well

I got 2K16 a little while ago, as well as 2K17 and 2k18. I don't buy these games at full price anymore, so I go retro a couple of years later.

Playing 2K18 for the first time, the controls felt as responsive as the other game, I was amazed. But overall didn't like the gameplay that much.

2K17 was ok, not that great imo.

And then I tried 2K16 and was having a hard time going back to the old animation-driven feel...you know, not as responsive. Plus, I don't have any roster files so I'm stuck with the default. Might give it another chance...but to put things in perspective...I've been playing a lot of...the other game. And now it's hard to come back. I did like the graphics, though, 2K16 looks great.

Still may give 2K16 another try soon and see how it goes.
        My Specs:

        ZX Spectrum
        CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
        GPU: Monochrome display
        RAM: 48 KB
        OS: Sinclair BASIC

Seems like these it was better in the past threads pop up every year.

I recall people almost pulling a coup for 2k17 and 2k15 having players with fat legs, and the arenas looking like morgues.

The longer time goes by the more outdated the games get.

I also recall people still clamoring for 2k11 when. 2K16 was out.

          I guess.

Re: NBA 2K16 still holds up well

This is why I never sell these games.

However, I do think we've come a long way. Everybody still talks about how great 2k11 was and for it's time it was absolutely awesome. It's soundtrack invokes so much nostalgia for my Freshman year of college. If you play it now though, there's no question imo that we have a better product today. It's still great to go back though, I've still got almost every 2k ever made and I do have every one since 2k8.

2k16 was a great year, it introduced all of the expansion team customization we're used to and it's MyLeague wasn't quite as glitched as it is now.

One last thing of note, I'm a big music person, one great idea 2k had for 2k16 was a classics section bringing back some tracks from past 2k's. I really wish they'd kept this in. I'm really not much on a lot of the music on 2k's but some of it has definitely been memorable in a good way. It'd be cool if every year we had two or three classic songs that are familiar.

The longer time goes by, obviously games get outdated, but that doesnt mean people can't or don't enjoy some past titles more, or that the past titles don't have superior gameplay or presentation elements. I sincerely enjoy 2K14 through 2K17 more, and can layout those reasons why.

It's not always nostalgia, biased, or anything like that, often times people legitimately have better gameplay experiences with past games.

Basically, just because something is new, doesnt make it the best. It may be better for some, but certainly not all.

One on one defense felt amazing, L2 didn't glue you to the offensive player, but if you anticipated correctly, you were rewarded.

biggest issue for me was transisiton defense and the inability to react to the ball in passing lanes...which kind of go hand and hand...

It was pre overcomplication of the shot meter..... Shot meter and jump shots indeed felt great. Layups were fast and non metered.

2K17 was personally my least favorite game of this gen though...
I HATED 2K17. It’s also my least favorite as well. The skinny body types that they gave everyone also ruined it for me too.

Nah it's usually just I don't like this game x game was better

Or was game x the best one ever

Point being this thread is made every year.

                  Just my observation

Right, and those people legitimately enjoy those past games more. And the point? Again, just because its NEW, it doesnt make it better. Remember the backlash for 2K18? A lot of people consider that one the worst one ever, from an online standpoint and gameplay standpoint (blow bys). It was "new", but people legitimately enjoyed past games more, and many gameplay elements from some of the past games were better than 2K18.

Also, "this thread is created every year" is not true, and they are also not all created equal. And, if a thread is created in a similar fashion by someone who does indeed enjoy the experience more with a past game, how in any way is tha a bad thing? Or someone not being honest?

And, this wasnt just a "I dont like this game x game was better", I laid out reasons why I enjoy 2K16 gameplay more I'm the original post, shared a gameplay video, and gave more reasons why in other posts. In fact, people in here seem to be enjoying the discussion, and a couple have agreed they enjoyed 2K16 more.

So I am not sure what you are accomplishing here? Nothing wrong with this thread, my preferred gameplay experience (or others), etc. And again, just because its new... doesn't make it the best or the preferred gameplay experience for all, some like myself prefer some of the past titles more.

It's the NBA 2K basketball discussion section, this thread belongs.

It's fine if they enjoy it

It still pops up every year no matter what advances are made.

2K 17 had the buff players though. They were all one swole, Paul George, Isaiah Thomas because there was a stir here about it as soon as they released the Paul George screenshot.

The body types overall were not good in 2K17 IMO. Chris Paul had the super buff bod, Paul George had the average body type, and the skinny body types were a major eyesore.
