Re: NBA 2K20 Player Rating Edit Guide

    Mitchell Robinson
    Position: C
    H/W/A: 7’0” / 240 lbs / 21 years
    Archetype: Paint Beast
    82 Overall (-1)

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/c92raTkCjZU" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Robinson is by far the best player not named Porzingis the team drafted this decade, and they stole him in the 2nd round.

    OFFENSE
    80 Driving Layup (-2)
    45 Post Fadeaway (-7)
    65 Post Hook (NC)
    60 Post Control (+10)
    99 Draw Foul (+41)
    69 Shot Close (-3)
    40 Shot Mid (-28)
    25 Shot 3pt (-7)
    58 Free Throw (-4)
    40 Ball Control (NC)
    45 Pass Vision (+17)
    45 Pass IQ (-9)
    45 Pass Accuracy (+1)
    94 Offensive Rebound (+10)
    99 Standing Dunk (+9)
    90 Driving Dunk (+10)
    70 Shot IQ (-28)
    80 Hands (NC)

Robinson is currently holding the single-season record with 74 FG%. He also leads the league in TS% and Offensive Rating. He's 21 years old. How is that possible? He dunks a staggering 62% of his shots (probably an NBA record). He averages a dunk every 7 minutes.

Robinson is 0-2 from mid-range in two seasons. He’s not a shooter. He’s modern Tyson Chandler/DeAndre Jordan.

The reason 2K gave him shooting ratings? Robinson skipped college. Scouts had no footage and this made him difficult to evaluate beyond loose reports. He was a relative enigma (which is how he slipped in the first place). With that said, presuming a raw second round center would be a decent NBA shooter was a stupid decision. Fast forward two years, their highly advanced methodology of copy/pasting into Excel has failed them (no sample means no change).

    DEFENSE
    72 Defensive Rebound (-7)
    75 Interior Defense (-9)
    70 Perimeter Defense (+21)
    99 Block (+5)
    70 Steal (+14)
    99 Shot Contest (+4)
    85 Reaction Time (NC)

Robinson is the best shot blocker in Knicks franchise history. Better than Kristaps Porzinigs, Patrick Ewing, and Marcus Camby. Yet like Porzingis, he gives up rebounding position going for these blocks.

What's most exciting about Mitch is shot block specialists (Manute Bol, Shawn Bradley, Theo Ratliff, Mark Eaton, Tree Rollins, Marcus Camby) typically can't score efficiently. Mitch won't ever be the post player that Hakeem, Admiral, Zo, or Anthony Davis are/were, but he very clearly won't be an offensive zero either. If Dikembe Mutombo could finish like Mitchell Robinson, he'd have been DAVID Robinson.

    ATHLETICISM
    65 Lateral Quickness (NC)
    60 Speed (+12)
    45 Ball Speed (+20)
    45 Acceleration (+20)
    85 Vertical (+2)
    75 Strength (+10)
    80 Stamina (-5)
    95 Hustle (NC)
    80 Durability (NC)

    MENTAL
    70 Pass Perception (+5)
    80 Offensive Consistency (NC)
    65 Defensive Consistency (-20)
    65 PNR Defense (-7)
    75 Help Defense (-12)
    70 Intangibles (-28)
    90 Potential (+2)

He ain't there yet as a defender. Again, he's 21 years old.

    12 BADGES (+1)
FINISHING (4): Pick & Roller (H-U1), Putback Boss (H-U1), Lob City Finisher (H-U1), Contact Finisher (B-ADD)
DEFENSE (8): Chase Down Artist (G), Heart Crusher (G), Pogo Stick (G), Rim Protector (G-U1), Intimidator (S), Lightning Reflexes (S), Rebound Chaser (S), Worm (S)

I gave Robinson three Hall of Fame badges. I am not playing around here. His production is nothing short of historic. Badges are meant to push us beyond where the ratings go.

Robinson lead the league in Putback frequency in both of his professional seasons. 37% as a rookie, 35% this year. He has likewise been the most efficient PNR finisher (min 100 poss) in both his professional seasons. He's probably the best dunking center in history. Better than DeAndre Jordan. Imagine if Robinson played with prime Chris Paul & Blake Griffin instead of R.J. Barrett and Julius Randle?

(I think I just made my argument for the Knicks acquiring CP3 via trade)

      Bobby Portis

As with a number of Knicks, Portis got better as the season went on.

      Pre-ASB: 9-5-2 on 43-35-73 shooting
      Post-ASB: 14-4-1 on 51-41-83 shooting

      DEFENSE

      85 Stamina (+5)
      80 Hustle (-10)
      75 Durability (-9)

As is the case with every non-dunking big, 2K thinks Portis is a plodding stretch four (ala Davis Bertans). Just because he isn't explosive doesn't mean he has stone feet.

      MENTAL

      85 Potential (+7)

Still only 24 years old, Portis is a quality backup big. With a 15M team option, he's unlikely to be retained. Yet there's room for him to grow as a starter with the right franchise.

Rattling off a few (12) starting PF in the current NBA: Nemanja Bjelica, Lauri Markkanen, Dario Saric, Carmelo Anthony, Aaron Gordon, Maxi Kleber, Rui Hachimura, P.J. Washington, Trey Lyles, Taurean Prince, Royce O'Neale, and Juan Hernangomez.

        Reggie Bullock
        Position: SG/SF
        H/W/A: 6’6” / 205 lbs / 28 years
        Archetype: Sharpshooter (from Mid-Range Specialist)
        76 Overall (+4)

I'm of the opinion that Bullock should be the Knicks starting SG due to the spacing he provides (at least in the short-term).

        50 Driving Dunk (NC)
        66 Shot IQ (-19)
        80 Hands (+14)

Bullock has progressively improved his playmaking each season.

        Pick & Roll possessions
        2020: 47 (18.8%)
        2019: 53 (10.3%)
        2018: 38 (6.2%)
2017: DNQ (less than 10 poss)
2016: DNQ (less than 10 poss)

        70 Intangibles (NC)
        80 Potential (+5)

Bullock’s 4M option is a bargain. The team is desperate for 3&D players. It's a no-brainer that he'll be retained as a steady role player.

Is there anywhere that you have posted or would you consider posting in here just your OVR's for all the players on your ratings?

Just to follow up on that, absolutely you have permission to copy everything from my spreadsheet (with your own ratings obviously).

              Shooting Stats
              Rim: 279-448 (62.3%)
Close: 31-157 (19.7%) - This is unspeakably bad
              Mid: 45-111 (40.5%)
              3pt: 184-484 (38.0%)

Scoring from 3-15 Feet is a major hole in LaVine's game (the average starting SG shoots about 40%). He doesn't have a tear drop or runner. If he can't get all the way to the rim he's hoping to get bailed out by a foul. Last year LaVine shot 61-220 (27.2%) from Close, so this isn't an aberration either.

The good news is he's only 24 years old. If his efficiency (and/or shot selection) improved even modestly, he'd be an All-Star without question.

This has quietly been LaVine's best defensive season. The Bulls rank 14th defensively, after ranking 25th last year. Say what you will about coach Jim Boylen's methods, but he's getting the most he can out of his team's best player.

LaVine is right there with Booker and Mitchell (Beal has a legit gripe about being snubbed from the All-Star game, though that's a separate issue). LaVine should be locked in as a top 3 SG in the east for the foreseeable future.

^Not a fan of how 2K implemented these Association subtypes like "Media Ringmaster" and "Warm Weather Fan". LaVine has played in Minnesota and Chicago. He re-signed with Chicago for 4 years, indicating weather wasn't a major factor for him.

Rashidi ... loved your roster for years.

                Question ...

Using your roster in MyLeague and some upcoming free agents for teams should not be free agents after one year.

There's multiple examples but I'll stick with the Lakers ...

Danny Green and Kyle Kuzma are just two examples of players who are slated to be free agents after one year and that's not the case.

Will this correct itself or are there adjustments I should make?

I just verified Green/Kuzma have two years in my roster file. FWIW, I updated contracts months ago.

Don't know what would cause that issue.

Ntilikina's core offensive weakness is that he doesn't attack the rim. He's able to keep defenses honest when his pull-up jumper is falling, but he's a zero when it's not. That's not acceptable for modern PGs.

Position defense is Ntilikina's calling card. He stands to get even better once he cuts his foul rate.

Ntilikina will likely have a long career as a 3&D guard. Of course, that isn't what the Knicks were hoping for when they drafted him 7th in 2017, but not every lottery pick needs to be the savior. At 21 years old, Ntilikina is ahead of the curve for the player he projects to be.

Patrick Beverley played internationally for four years before making his NBA debut at age 24. Avery Bradley failed miserably as a PG (age 19-21) before Doc Rivers converted him to a full-time SG. Cory Joseph is a pretty close comparison. The team should embrace that they got a defensive-minded backup, and focus their efforts on finding the long-term starter.

It's become very clear the Knicks made a mistake passing on Michael Porter Jr. In 3,300 minutes of development, Knox has made zero strides. They might as well have taken the red-shirt.

It's easier to be higher on Ntilikina because he possesses a discernible NBA skill and other players who've taken a similar path.
Knox? He's a poor man's Harrison Barnes / T.J. Warren. There are no comparable backups, because those players fall out of the league if they aren't good enough at making their shots.

Dotson fell out of the rotation in February, as Bullock took his job once healthy. He didn't make any progress before that, cementing his status as an end-of-bench shooter.

Unlike many modern shooters, Dotson is a bit of a throwback as he's much better from mid-range and only average from three. His FT% is a mild concern, though he really isn't drawing fouls enough for it to matter.

I expect another team to give Dotson an opportunity in free agency. He's hoping to be the next Wayne Ellington for a team that hopefully won't offer 8M to Wayne Ellington to be the fifth SG.

I never understood this signing for the Knicks, given that they drafted Barrett and already had Dotson and Trier under contract.

If the Knicks were going to throw money away, they should have at least gone after a SF to diversify their roster. Glenn Robinson III and James Ennis took peanuts. Furkan Korkmaz nearly signed internationally. Even re-signing Mario Hezonja would have been acceptable.

Not only did the Knicks pay Ellington 8M to barely play (558 mins), they paid 3M to Allonzo Trier to NOT play (289 mins). They paid a premium to waste a year or Trier's development.

Ellington isn't as bad at defense as 2K would have you believe. He's fine, especially for a backup.

The consummate journeyman, Ellington has played for 9 teams in 11 years. He'll look to make it 10 once the Knicks decline his option.
