    Re: The Dunk Meter sucks.

Its not a bad idea at all. I dont know if that was clear from my original post.
    The problem is the execution.

The idea of a risk/reward mechanic of trying to force a dunk when your player is a dunker is great imo.

I absolutely agree that posterizing dunks in traffic also shouldnt be easy.

And I think the concept of this mechanic is amazing.

But holy **** the meter makes absolutely no sense.

Just make the release window when the ball is actually dunked. It shouldnt be this hard to realize that that is what makes sense.

If enough ppl complains and actually reach out to 2k devs maybe they’ll make it an option to turn it off like shots and layups, wouldn’t be hard to patch it in like everything else

But it is an OPTION now. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. If you're brave enough to try and dunk on my center and actually make it. That's going to be a satisfying feeling.

They can tweak it a bit so that it makes more sense but at the same time I don't want it to be too easy. Hell I went through years with getting dunked on with so many canned dunked on you animations. This is the first time in years that I haven't been posterized yet.

If you all want it to be easy then we will be seeing OP green inside dunks. Hell we already have OP green 3's leave the inside alone already.

This is something they should have built off the aiming feature.

            Bring back shot aiming.

If you play with a Center, and the game has been out for a month, and you still havent been dunked on ONCE, I dont think thats a very good thing, no matter how satisfying that may be for you. LOL

I agree that it shouldnt be easy, but dunks happen, and they are cool af too. I get it not being easy, but it making no sense at all like it is now, cant be an optimal decision either. Im pro meter, and being able to force dunk attempts, just make the meter make more sense, rather its release is at the dunking of the ball or the coming off the ground window.

Thing is we're talking about 2k here and when they try to balance something they tend to lean on the offensive side of things. Next year you guys will have your OP dunked on animations back on every drive. So pretty much like it was in past 2ks.

I expect new badges just to help with the timed dunking next year. That's how they usually try to "fix" things by adding new badges for you to grind.

Oddly enough, I have no real opinion on this, but I'm technically coming from NBA 2K20 since I hated next-gen NBA 2K21 so much. Personally, I never really felt that dunks were OP, but it sounds like the change was a result of what happened in 2K21. If the players has the speed, path, and angle, then the game should let them go for it based on the context while rewarding the defense if they made a good enough play on the ball. Personally, the only time I used "down" on the RS was when I was on fastbreaks. Otherwise, I mainly used the other directions when I attempted a dunk in the half-court.

If shooting was anything like the dunk meter everyone would be shooting realistic (or even worse) percentages and the community would be in an uproar. (though it would be somewhat funny)
It's silly that completely open right stick down dunks are significantly more difficult than open 3's so much so that people hardly even try them because it's simply not worth it.

Dunk meter is a joke, 2k23 for sure gonna be ditched.

Take away fun then give fun, people will be like yay dunking is back

2k policy reminds me Blizzard with World of Warcraft, they ruined certain mechanics, classes, abilities, and improve them with next release.

Players like us are addicts, and the devs are the dealers. Sometimes they provide good, and bad stuff, keeping us dependant.

I just want to be on record of saying that hate the dunk meter with every fiber of my being.

I only get a few dunk opportunities each game, with breakaway opportunities even rarer. Yet, I hate that controlling the coolest dunks (super flashy & rim hangs) comes down to a random meter that I'm somehow supposed to be able judge, assess, and respond to in a hundredth of a second with no rhythmic visual pattern. I just want to be able to do the dunks I want to do without a sure thing suddenly turning into a coin-flip.

It's taken one of my favorite aspects of video game basketball and turned it into an anxiety-riddled mess. My solution has been to just face-button dunk every time down the floor, which locks me out on some of the finer dunks the game has to offer.

If nothing else, I'd just want a toggle to turn the meter off for offline gamers. It's that bad for some of us out here.

Didn’t 2K23 correct this by letting us do flashy one and two hand dunks without the dunk meter? In 2K22 the flashy dunk button was ruined because it was tied to the meter. Now you don’t need the meter to do a flashy dunk. Even before hand you couldn’t choose whether you wanted a one or two hand flashy dunk like you can now.

Take Vince Carter into practice mode

Do 15 dunks with analog or button

                                Do 15 metered dunks

You’ll notice they all duplicate. Only difference is the metered dunks can be forced
