So when I set the defender to leave them, usually they are the ones that come for the double team a majority of the time when it's called.

I feel as though individual help defense and defensive consistency ratings play a part in how they respond overall as well.

That's my experience too. If I'm facing Giannis, and I set my defense to double him on the catch, the help defender usually comes over from whoever is set to "leave him". It's useful cause you can choose where the help comes from this way.

and what about instances when you dont call for the double and just want the help? In my experience leave him results in really Bad help side behavior and the defender sticks to his opponent even if hes a non shooter in the weakside corner.

Check out the defender you set to "leave him" help defense and defensive consistency rating.

That could be why your not seeing it on the regular. Gotta remember, not everyone is good help defenders so knowing your teams strengths and weaknesses are key.

Try using that setting on one of your best help defenders and see how they respond. I know for me Noel is a problem when you in the paint. He's there most of the time for the help defense.

i would say that myles Turner fits the description of a Good help defender with 90 help D IQ and 85 def consistency.

Yep. The individual defensive settings attached to each offensive player in the settings screen, has nothing to do with individual ratings. Some of the settings don’t work, and we all should just be honest about that. Hopefully, the non working ones can get corrected through a roster update.

There’s no perfect defense in the NBA
Individual ratings do and have to matter

Everyone would stop the Warriors by “playing tight” and only help off Draymond if they could. Honestly it works a little better than it should in 2K already.

I say that to say that even if all this is fixed, Players are not going to always going to be able to hold their assignment.

That’s why I’m a fan of that “stun” some weaker defenders get when a pass is swung over their head.

I agree. Blown assignments are great. I would love to see guys not follow your assignments if they have low ratings.

Yeah obviously if defense always Acts perfectly that wouldnt work.

Great thread, I am also trying to figure out how all these settings work together but TBH very few conclusions and too many discrepancies and inconsistencies so far.

At the moment the defense that works better for me is the "shrink the floor" option but I am still playing with the pick and roll options and also investigating if within this configuration (with a lot of help and gaps) I can decide to play tight and no help off of some of the other team players (very good shooters)...

I think the important question here is whether or not a patch can fix the fact that some of these settings don't work the way they're supposed to.

a Patch in principle can do this. but 1) it first needs to be understood by the devs/da czar how they actually work (codewise) and 2) He needs to be allowed to allocate enough resources into that topic.

Has anyone found a way to make the AI defend the pick-and-roll with more than the two players directly involved, despite these settings not working 100%?

I know in MyLeague, for example, you can control all 29 others teams' defensive settings and tell them exactly how to defend your team. It's not perfectly ideal, but I could try it.

I feel like maybe some combination of high (75+ for all teams?) Help Defense coach sliders, "double-team on drive" for slashers/pick-and-roll ballhandlers, and maybe some others, would go a long way.

ACE: If offense is turned off, Offensive Tempo and Offensive Rebounding (OTF Menu) cannot be changed anymore and will be set to "AUTO".

what sso you want to have explained? it is exactly now it is written There. at least on current gen, Not on old gen. if you Set ACE to Off or to Defense only, then you cannot Change the setting for offensive rebounding and offensive Tempo.
