Now that NBA 2k23 is close to its end of life, where does it rank all time for you

For me, easily #1. At first, I wasn't sure but it's clearly #1. MyEras is the greatest franchise mode in sport gaming history. I didn't get bored with this 2k which is rare. I just haven't seen a sports game outside of College Hoops or College Football that keeps me entertained for so many hours.

    For me

    1. 2k23
    2. 2k1
    3. 2k11
    4. 2k19
    5. 2k17

2k1 had the best franchise mode in Dreamcast history. Probably the best progression for any game. I worked and turned Dermarr Johnson into a 99

2k11 was really fun. So many features and modes. I wasn't the most fond of its franchise mode but the rest of the game was highly innovative. Jordan challenge was unique.

    2k19 was the best 2k till 2k23.

2k17 was very stable and fun. I played it more than most.

I played this game from Sept to Sept, definitely an all timer for me…it’s neck and neck with 16

      2K23
      2K16
      2K14 LG
      2K11
      2K7

        1st : NBA 2k23
        2nd : NBA 2k11
        3rd : NBA 2k12
        4th : NBA 2k20
        5th : NBA 2k17

NBA 2k24 will take 2k23’s spot later in August 2024 before 2k25 release

I agree with OP. I felt Era mode was one of greatest additions in sports video game history actually. This game just offered so much for so many different players (offline gamers, card mode gamers, my career gamers, online gamers).

          1. NBA 2K23
          2. NBA 2K11
          3. NBA 2K19

Those were the ones I enjoyed the most. Still play 2K23 to this day which is unusual for me and sports games. I will likely buy 2K24 but really wouldn't need to.

2K23 is the best 2K in a long time. I made myself stop a couple weeks ago because I want to jump into 2k24 on day 1. I didn't buy 2k21 because I was so disappointed with 2k20. I didn't buy 2k22 until it was like $20.

2k23 blew me away with the MyEras. Loved the rosters and players that were available through that. Never thought I would see Tony Delk on an NBA game again but there he was and many others. Had a blast creating dream teams and leagues. A true playground for an NBA historian. Also, loved the gameplay. That being said, gotta get these draft classes to be better so I can play multiple seasons with these dream teams and leagues. Also, please put some more alternative stuff or old school hip hop on the soundtrack. The last good 2k soundtrack imo was 2k17.

Objectively, 2k23 may very well be the best but I'm going to rank these based on how much enjoyment I personally had. This is 2Ks alone

            1. 2k11
            2. 2k10
            3. 2k15
            4. 2k17
            5. 2k23

If you want an all time list including all sim NBA titles (not just 2k)

            1. NBA Live 2004
            2. NBA Jam 2000
            3. NBA 2K11
            4. NBA 2K10
            5. NBA Live 2003
            6. NBA 2K15
            7. NBA 2K17
            8. NBA 2K23

The only arcade style NBA game I might put ahead of it would be Street Vol. 2. But I'm just going with Sim titles.
            NCAA: Kentucky Wildcats
            MLB: Atlanta Braves
            NBA: San Antonio Spurs

If I was 5 to 10 years younger, I would probably have this game on my Top 5 2k list. The games I really enjoyed and all for different reasons were 2k2, 2k8, 2k11, 2k16 and 2k20.

I respect how much work they put into this game and the potential of the modes.

Saying that, I thought the skill gap in shooting was just too much to deal with. I thought defense was too easy. If you didn’t play this game constantly then shooting was a chore.

I thought there was very little pick up and play and just enjoy with this 2k. It felt like you had to be perfect with shooting and that just drove away many of the people I enjoyed playing with.

If I took a week off from playing or more, it felt like I had to relearn shooting. That’s before you factor in the many patches and tuning updates so I just stopped trying to mess with sliders.

Usually I could deal with all of the patches and updates in the past. However with how this game was tuned; it was too much and just drove away other people I enjoyed playing with. I could never find the right balance this cycle and it felt like I had to invest time that I didn’t really have.

                1. 2K11
                2. 2K14
                3. 2K10
                4. 2K8
                5. 2K16
                6. 2K9
                7. 2K20
                8. 2K7
                9. 2K23

If it wasn't for Eras, 23 would probably only be a play-now online game for me. Since 2K21 I haven't played as much 2K as I'm used to, the gameplay hasn't been the most fun for me but 23 had its moments.

It was number one at release but now number 2 (after patches)

                    1. NBA 2K23: 2K nailed the CPU AI this year. A user could always make players look and play like themselves. 2k23 is the first year the CPU AI looks and plays the part. The stars shine and dominate in the same way they do in real life.

                    2. NBA 2K14XB1: Just a beautiful game and the presentation was on point.

                    3. NBA 2K12: I just loved the defense and live ball that year.

                    4. NBA 2K11: Jordan Challenges.

                    5. NBA 2K8: I play this one to this day because of the College Hoopa 2K8 Import.

I'm much newer to 2K than most of you (dabbled a bit in 2K18 & 19, but 2K20 was my first real 2K), and even then only old-gen, but 2K23 is my favorite so far. Hands down the best for modding (yes, I'm aware of 2K14), and I like the gameplay overall. My impression is that 2K20's AI was superior though, but it's been long enough since I played that I can't really be sure anymore.

Going by most played for me…

                          1. 23 because of ERAS mode

                          2. 17(I know I’m in minority here) because it started expansion/starting in off-season mode. I played 17 a ton

                          3. 16 or 11 are interchangeable for me here.

Any other year I do t really remember playing all that much.

I've started to be generous to videogames and now judge them on a pass/fail rating. 2k23 passed for me.

                              Its goated because of Eras.

Unless we open it up to compare all basketball videogames, then it still falls behind CHoops
