What’s a speed up jumper?

I thought it was when the shooting form arcs higher when a defender is close.

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
another player who was really enjoying the game here, glad to find this post... this shooting update really messed things up. unless a shot is 'wide open', the window size is nothing - even with 3 point ratings raised.
having to tune and retune the game with every update is awful, the fact that they seemingly change what the values mean makes it hard to get into a rhythm offline. speaking of which, the constant nuking of close/inside shots makes it hard to play the game, period. if you can no longer make the best basketball decision for fear of Secret Slider Changes, even offline... its not ideal.Last edited by mori_lucrum_; 10-24-2023, 08:57 AM.Comment

Been holding that one in your back pocket huh? Good job Johnny
For instance if a defenders closing out, behind you or at your side you’ll get a quicker version of your jumper and it will read as “Open” instead of “Wide Open”
It was done to make shooting more consistent and take away some of the variance, but for those of us that play online and have spent a full year, and this first season training our reflexes for that variance, it’s an adjustment. It makes for a more consistent game offline though IMO, along with the shooting buffs they’ve already made.
I would have preferred they make catch and shoot catches more consistent personally.

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
I swear I’ve never experienced a bliss like I currently am by skipping a new 2K game. I always get the new game and spend countless hours and brainpower adjusting sliders after these patches or ghost patches. Dealing with new bugs etc. It’s always insanely stressful having to find a balance like how the game played at launch.
I’m on 2K23 and every time I boot it up the gameplay is consistent. Slider tweaks work as they should since no core changes are being made behind the scenes.
My courts are glossy and reflective and not like PS2 lighting. Players look sharp and not like clay. Players in the editor screen look like new gen graphics and not PS3 style lighting. I assume I’m using 30 gigs of less space.
If ignorance is bliss then ignoring a new 2K is bliss. Every year they adjust gameplay sooner and sooner. Every time a new 2K launches we say it’s the best playing ever. Then usually a couple weeks to a month later we say it’s ruined.
This year I swear I saw y’all saying this is the best playing 2K ever for literally a DAY before the patches started annoying everyone. It’s getting ridiculous.
I just wanna play ball and not chase under the hood changes. Only way to do that is with an old 2K.
Now when I read through Reddit or YouTube consensus starts to look like this is becoming the “worst” or most annoying 2K to play. And I’ve never seen a game unanimously considering to be a considerable graphical downgrade. From here to Reddit to YouTube, the graphics are joked about. Court editor it still screwed up, etc.
Proplay seems good, but still in teething stages and not good enough to compensate for the other issues from what I gather. And I’ve never seen a 2K go on sale or be free to play so soon. Every time I boot up 23 they’re bombarding me with discounts or free promos to get 24.
It’s wild.
Seems like a pattern for me. Normally once every 3 to 4 years will be a solid entry I'll be invested in. 11/12 then 16, then 20, then 23.
At least by the time I'm ready for a new game, it'll feel completely fresh to me, instead of 2k23.5-----------------------------------------

It’s the actual shot timing that speeds up

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
It's not so easy to move on from the game you've been playing for years, what made me fall in love with the game is how great it represented the game of basketball, it was sim first then everything else. But somewhere around 2k17 it started moving away from that selling point and it's just not what it used to be.Comment

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
The patch quite literally made it easier to hit contested shots by taking away the speed up variable. Standstill jumpers weren’t changed.
Would think most offline users would see this as a plus with the inability to shoot contested shots and close out speeds being two chief complaints.

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
This game is weird, it went from being way too hard, then the next day I played and it was way too easy I was hitting like 12 contested shots in a row, I was even trying to miss sometimes and it would still make it, it just feels like the CPU is the one making me miss or make a shot, that's not good, they keep updating the game behind our backs, this game is screwedComment
