Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
There is always going to be some level of randomness/variance/unpredictability in sports. You could play the same match-up over and over again to get different results. That is part of why sports can be so enjoyable to follow -- if players shot the same exact % each game that'd likely get boring. There are going to be good games, and bad games across the board -- sometimes you'll think you notice a pattern when there isn't one.
Let's ask ourselves, what would be the incentive for developers to make these adjustments behind the scenes that apparently result in big swings in gameplay? I don't buy that, especially if someone claims it is happening on a regular basis (occasional tweaks are to be expected).Last edited by m29a; 10-26-2023, 11:14 AM.Comment

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
any once else noticed that since the last patch CPU players are shooting from the midrange-close range zone one handed layups instead of regular jump shots???
my problem with this is that the CPU misses way more then a regular jumper and second it's so easy to block making the gameplay so unrealistic and challengingComment

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
since my last comment in this thread, 2 days ago, i am fairly certain there have been at least 2 gameplay patches! i understand that they are trying to 'balance' things for the paying MyCareer customers (aka induce FOMO by constantly revaluing attributes), but it is truly nutty. fwiw i do play some mycareer (3v3 in the theatre), the game feels more 'consistent' there and my build can play to whatever the week's patch does to the game.
i think whats most frustrating is the elements of 24 are excellent, they could continue to screw with the MyCareer stuff and leave offline alone if they just stop changing what the numbers in the sliders mean every day.
since i'm in the mood for a dynasty mode, i actually fired up 23 with those peregrino all-time rosters today... the basketball gameplay itself is much much more solid, but the shooting in 24 (especially with the shot stick) is way more fluid. in 23, if you use the button to shoot you may not notice... but theres almost always a little hitch on the catch and shoot with the shot stick. i'll probably stick with 23 for awhile, even though the most recent 24 update seemed to fix some of my issues... theres a decent chance it'll change again in the next two days.Comment

Yep it’s playing absolutely perfect for me. There’s organic variables between games but no sudden drastic behind the scenes changes. And it just looks so damn good and rich in comparison.Comment

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
I didn’t suddenly forget how to play the game, something changed.
I use the 80s Lakers and was 10-0 and stats were perfect for me. I play on Superstar and bumped CPU shooting sliders up and mine down a bit. I was 10-0 but games were mostly close. I would beat lesser teams by double digits but upper teams gave me a challenge. Not really surprised I was 10-0 because 80s Lakers were a great team. That was before recent patches and updates.
Now since I updated the player movements are weird. CPU has this weird turbo boost for close outs and rebounds. Using real% it’s just about impossible to hit a contested inside shot where as before it was fair. I would hit some and miss some.Comment

Especially for my offline people who play the CPU. It's a feeling out situation. Sometimes it takes months. I totally get it.Last edited by jeebs9; 10-27-2023, 11:00 AM.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Otherwise the gameplay is still good to me. Still seeing different animations with ProPlay.. I enjoyed getting cooked by the Clippers just this week with the Blazers.Comment

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
Since many here don’t know a lot of actual detail about the online game, it’s common to throw most issues under the “because MyPlayer” umbrella, when fact is the worlds don’t collide anywhere as much as you think they do.
Of course there are shared changes that occur and absolutely shift gameplay, usually following a seasonal patch…..but a lot of the wholesale changes I see talked about here literally cannot be tweaked daily, weekly or even by means of a standard update. A bit of it is indeed in your head and I genuinely hate to see guys think themselves out of enjoying the game. I’ve seen 4 page threads here talking about an aspect of the game that changed when the dev that works on that part of the game is literally on vacation, lol
To put it in perspective, if you’re still enjoying 2K23 because they stopped making changes in those last couple months…you’d be incorrect in that assumption …but I don’t want to spoil it for you.
Just a lawyer trying to provide some insight here.

Re: What happened to this game? They ruined it
I'm playing on Pro and something has definitely changed for the worse. I win most games by 30-40 but I like the way shooting is so I keep it that way. Now shooting is a lot worse. Yeah I'm still good enough to score 120 a game but it's not nearly as fun as it was like a couple of weeks ago. Role players have to be rediculous wide open to make a shot. Most superstars need a decent amount of space to be able to make a 3 now. Basically no more stepbacks and etc. It's a scoring league and they had it playing great.Comment

The lead designer even tried to come out and say its not real but the community was convinced and said he was wrong. According to them EA "accidentally" added a brand new featureComment

The last change to 2K23 which happened in its final months I realized is players started shooting way more threes and bad circus threes. But being that the game is now in a solid state at least I can give core tunes to adjust that if I want.
These changes aren’t in people’s heads. That just makes no sense. It appears 90++% of players through all modes on forums report these changes. Nobody is saying who or why they happen. Maybe a dev isn’t needed. Maybe there’s internal slider and gameplay sets that automatically shift on a certain schedule to keep the online community guessing and paying. But something certainly happens in those overnight updates.Comment

I learned how real and powerful that was about 10 years ago when damn near the entire NCAA community convinced themselves that holding L2 on passes allowed for more precise leading or some kind of modifier I forget.
The lead designer even tried to come out and say its not real but the community was convinced and said he was wrong. According to them EA "accidentally" added a brand new feature

No maybes about it, that’s not how it works.
There’s a reason the reports of what has changed aren’t consistent. You’re free to believe what you believe though.
