just set them ingame and see which defensive settings get changed. if you want to "stop people always dunking" you want stuff with a lot of help and with lots of sagging off at the 3pt line. maybe even double teaming or pre-rotating. this is not rocket science, but basketball.

Re: Almost all Defensive Settings work this year
I have noticed a clear change the past few days regarding cpu post defense.
The first few weeks of release I saw consistent doubling in the post. Way more than not.
The last couple of days, that has gone.
Players are left on an island to defend elite post players again. (This was a 2k23 issue)
And post double team settings still do not work.
I almost exclusively play and test cpu v cpu so this issue is now glaring.
You can set ie: embiid or Jokic to be doubled in catch, and this is ignored.
I now only see doubles if it's a mismatched position (SG defending a C) or if it's Shaq. I am currently trial and error testing to see if there is a fix but so far nothing is working. Grrrr...
Pretty annoying. This was fine a week or so ago??Comment

Re: Almost all Defensive Settings work this year
2K really needs to work on AI defense. It's beyond suspect. The AI doesn't pre-rotate ever from what I've seen, double-teams in the post haven't been a thing in recent games before this year, defenders go under screens (on- and off-ball) way too much, and pick-and-roll defense is a dice roll between whether they'll defend it moderately well or play completely brain-dead defense that you'll almost never see in an NBA game. And has anyone else noticed that AI defenders do not close out hard to shooters when recovering from in or near the paint?
And the crazy part is it used to be way worse. It's just taken roughly a decade and a half to make any significant progress.Comment

They're working better but need a from-the-ground-up rebuild. This section has needed a spring cleaning for at least 5 years.Comment

Re: Almost all Defensive Settings work this year
Anyone know how to fix my coach from changing my defensive assignments in game?
I’ll put my best defensive player on the best cpu offensive threat and anytime there is a substitution I go to look it changes. Prior 2Ks you never had to go and update each time. And the coach will have crazy matches for example a center assigned to a guard.
Any help is appreciatedComment

known bug, also to the devs.
according to devs/2k support "until a fix is released" we should restrain from using any on-the-fly menu...Comment

Re: Almost all Defensive Settings work this year
I dog 2K's defensive AI all the time, but this is way more difficult than it seems. Like, for example, can Lu Dort (6'3, 215) guard LeBron (6'8, 250)? On paper, you'd say no, but OKC does put Dort on LeBron.
Then you have to worry about the other matchups on the floor. So you put Dort (at PF) on LeBron, and let's say the Lakers have AD at the 4. Who guards Davis if you're OKC? Presumably your C, but then that puts your SF on the Lakers' actual center, and then next thing you know your SF is getting bullied on the boards and giving up tons of second chances when you force misses.
And that's to say nothing of all the different ridiculous lineups a user could put on the floor to confuse the AI, with players at totally unnatural positions they'd never play IRL. A non-human entity would be lucky to put together the right combination of cross-matchups to mitigate any potential disadvantages defensively.Comment

Switching rarely works for me also. The CPU doesn't switch either. I hope it gets fixed because it's awful.Comment
