It won't get fixed. It's in there for years now.

It's really a shame: a switch shouldn't be too hard to code. They don't care about the offline crowd. Online players are switching manually. They don't care about cpu AI. Offline gamers do because we want to play against an opponent with halfway realistic bball IQ. But we aren't bringing 2k the in game money.

Off ball switching works for me. Video evidence below

It already is fixed. You just have to make sure that stay attached is on never, and then change the switch settings to what you want.

Great, this is the defensive situation I would like to see, even on the P&R

I honestly think it kind of sucks that saying "Almost" all defensive settings work is considered a win. That shouldn't be acceptable

I'm with you, but you gotta take what you can get with 2K. Anything that is done is done for online play, obviously. Offline/sim being disregarded isn't even questionable now, so when stuff works, kinda works or is inadvertently fixed or improved for offline play I view it as a huge win.

I wish I saw that! That's awesome! I have done everything you suggested. Switching rarely works for any length of time for me. There is no way to make switching or any defensive matchup setting to stick for me and others. When it does work it doesn't last long.

My theory is that timeouts and substitutions mess it all up. Also if I play a game and defensive settings work for a while, if I finish the game and rematch, the settings just straight up don't work at all. I can go in and change them and who even knows what the defenders will end up doing. They'll switch, then not, then stay with their man, then they'll help and pre rotate and not the next possession, help on drives then not, etc. It's an absolute arbitrary mess. I usually just reboot my PS5, else my defenders do w/e they want and it's never even close to good basketball. They act like lobotomized 8 year old down syndrome kids half of the time.

It's possible that the really odd defensive 'who to guard' matchups are part of the issue too. There's kinda no real reason for a big to have to guard a shifty PG like the game is doing, aside from programming issues and I have to think that if they screwed that up, odds are the other defensive assignments that involve switching and if/or type situations are messed up also.

hmm, can you give me in detail what settings you have there to get it to work that nice? would love to achieve that too

                    1. You have to check out the settings at the beginning of every game, and possibly turn off certain auto defensive settings.

                    2. Stay attached never set to all.

                    3. Off ball screen switch all. This deals with the off ball hedge man and guy being picked switching.

                    4. Switch rules off ball, Switch All (All). What positions will switch.

                    5. Down screen, Back Screen, Flare Screen, Dribble hand Off. Switch all unless there is one you don’t want to switch.

                    Those are the settings.

There really need to be two settings like Switch, where they switch if need be, but the ballhandler's defender tries to fight over the screen and recover, and Concede Switch, where they just immediately switch as soon as the screen is set and don't even try to get past the screen

What kills me is the hands up good defensive mechanic almost always is a foul. Good defense hands up not trying to block, foul. How are you suppose to defend then?

Pick and roll 1-3 or 2-3 most of Times are treated with stupid drop coverage instead of switching.

This was why I was so excited when I figured out how to work with the manual switching feature. It gives you that option. Teams IRL generally don't want to switch screens (some exceptions of course) all the time, it's a last resort measure when the screen is too effective.

Then you have to worry about the other matchups on the floor. So you put Dort (at PF) on LeBron, and let's say the Lakers have AD at the 4. Who guards Davis if you're OKC? Presumably your C, but then that puts your SF on the Lakers' actual center, and then next thing you know your SF is getting bullied on the boards and giving up tons of second chances when you force misses.

And that's to say nothing of all the different ridiculous lineups a user could put on the floor to confuse the AI, with players at totally unnatural positions they'd never play IRL. A non-human entity would be lucky to put together the right combination of cross-matchups to mitigate any potential disadvantages defensively.
I wish 2K would just hire someone to analyze how the teams play each other in real life and just put those settings in the game in the default roster. At least then the CPU wouldn't do dumb stuff all the time. It's been really bad for me this year since I've mainly been playing with the Mavs and they have Luka at PG, so I'm always being guarded by someone 5 inches too short and 50 pounds too light unless I manually go over the CPU and change it. And then it'll revert when subs start happening and I have to do it again. Really annoying.
