That's awesome bro. I love Bill as well. In fact, since I got him recently, I can't imagine running a lineup without him anchoring the 5 spot. All I run into now is teams with Yaos, and all Bill does is play clutch defense, rebound, score in transition, and win me games. I will admit that I too have Yao, but I play him off the bench lol. It's a Yao or be Yao'd world right now in MTO, unless you got Bill Russell to throw into the mix.

I lol'd pretty hard at that.
This thread tho...Im reading about all of these guys shutting down Yao with Emeralds and such....meanwhile, here are my bigs....
-Diamond Robinson.
-Diamond Dikembe.
-Diamond Bill.
-Yo.
-And the rest of the Lockdown set.
For the most part, I do fine with these guys. But Ive run into a couple games recently that were just from a different planet. One in particular....While Yao ruins Robinson in the post, Steph gets boards over his Yao and my Lockdowns. More than twice.
Something Ive really had to embrace lately regarding this game, is a sense of humor. If I dont laugh this stuff off, I get to the point where someone is gonna burn. LMAO. Not worth it. I dont play the game to get angry.Comment

Re: Yao. The cop out./ How do you have fun?
I've only had trouble with Yao when I played someone who had a completely diamond team and my players would double team whoever was on the ball, leaving him wide open for easy dunks.
I'm rolling with Emerald Towns and Turner at C and can't say Yao is that much of a challenge.
As has been said before, he gets destroyed in transition too.
He gets the ball near the basket and its over.
As far as transition, this works if the guy is playing 5 out and has Yao out at the top of the key. But if he's in the post 1) you have to stop him and 2) centers rarely are factor on transition if they are down low on offense unless they other guy doesn't know how to pick up a trailer.
I think the thing about Yao is everyone has him. Good players and bad. He may help bad players, but its good players who exploit Yao which make him such a problem.
I'd love some advice on how to steal in the post. I had Wallace with a +6 steal shoe and Yao just backs him down and dunks over him. Occasionally I can poke away the ball but more often its called a foul. Even doubling Yao with HoF PP Michael Ray rarely generates a steal.Comment

Re: Yao. The cop out./ How do you have fun?
So I've been using Russell more, and in conjunction with Robinson in a dual big frontcourt running Horns. Russell is an elite playmaker for a big, and I usually will dish in to him to facilitate. In Horns, when he gets the ball in the high post, he's basically either going to:
1. Work his post-up.
2. Dish to Robinson open in midrange (maybe 3-point sometimes).
3. Dish to cutting guard.
4. Dish to guard coming off off-ball screen for 3-point shot.
Russell is a stiff defender, quite mobile, capable of doing damage himself in the paint, and a very good passer.
Mutombo defends very well, though he basically cedes the backdown completely with low strength.
He's pretty useless on offense, though. He has a Post Hook but he can't back down big bigs to get in good range, so you either need to catch him at a good moment deep in the paint, or you need to run a play for him to get position.
You can also run PnR with him, but I find him disappointing in that role. I might commit to using a Badge slot for Pick and Roller to see if that helps.
EDIT: To get back on topic, I have played some games where Yao does some considerable damage in the post. Gets the standing dunk off a drop-step, or otherwise. On elite Diamond Centers.
But not excessive scoring. Not "money" for my opponent. And he definitely gives up baskets at the other end in fast breaks and because I can drag him into high PnR situations in which my faster guys burn him on the roll, or he can't get out quick enough to cover their fade.Last edited by harryl; 02-07-2017, 03:56 PM.Comment

I've yet to lose against anyone with Yao in their lineup. And I don't have a Diamond-laced lineup like most on here. I have Moments Davis and All-Around C-Webb as my starting big men, and I bring Ruby Marc Gasol and Sapphire LJ off the bench. I love it when Yao shows up in the lineup screen.Comment

For the guy asking about Bill vs. Dikembe in a Switch All defensive system..
Dikembe will get burned on the perimeter. Maybe not every time, but I definitely would not be switching him to guard a 1-3.
Russell OTOH is much quicker. I still dont recommend him for a switch all tho.
Actually, I dont recommend Switch All period. Its just a personal preference I suppose. I just dont want a 7footer switching onto ANY pg out there right now. I dont care how fast my defender is. The only players in my collection that I would consider putting in that situation would be Rodman, Russell, Magic...and thats about it.
If you insist on running with Switch All, a 4 and 5 of Russell and Rodman would be pretty solid I think. But then youre leaving yourself with no BIG offense, unless its a dunk.
Try getting creative with your lineup. I sub Giannis in at 5 at least twice a game. People get frustrated because he turns into my main ballhandler. Usually results in a couple pause spams. Keeps their C on the perimeter. The only time I really dont do this is when they have Wallace at the 5. Other than that, Ive yet to find an opposing C that can keep up. Quick inbound. Turbo your a$$ to the paint. Draw foul, dunk, layup.
Another one I like to do is Magic at 4. I dont do these wacky lineups all the time. Just for a few minutes a game to keep my opponent guessing.Comment
