Re: SimWorld’s 2k16 Fictional Draft Classes by CWSapp/Dreece/Blindside (XBOX One)
So me and the guys have been testing a little theory of mine over the past few days and we have decided that we are finally ready to implement. Before we do that though, let me give you a little more information on what I am referring to.
Over the last month or so however, I was starting to get irritated with how easy it was to load your team up with promising talent. See, the whole reason that we starting implementing the different versions of each class was to not only give variety but increase the likelihood that you draft a “bust”. The issue here is that no matter how many versions of classes we make, the chance that you will “blow it” in the draft is significantly low. Why is that? Because no matter how much I try to throw you off the game will let you know if that player is really worth a top pick. If I am telling you this guy is a potential superstar and should go number 1, but in all actuality he’s a 67 overall with a 69 potential, the game is going to rank him no where near the top of the big board and you or the CPU won’t draft him that high. The computer ranks players based on a combination of overall rating and potential rating. Of course there can be some slight randomness at the top but there is no way that an Adam Morrison, Kwame Brown or Hasheem Thabeet is going in the top 3. You can’t fool 2k….. .or can you?
For serious game editors like myself and the rest of the SimWorld crew, you are aware that this year we were given the option to edit “peak start” and “peak end”. For those of you that have no idea what that is allow me to BRIEFLY explain:
Peak start represents the age where a player will stop progressing. Yes, he can increase and decrease slightly (1 point here and there) but for the most part, when they reach this age they will not progress towards their potential anymore. This player has “reached his peak”.
Peak end represents the age where a player will start his decline. At this point the player generally gets worse every year until he retires from the league. Of course you can control how dramatic the decrease is with the MyLeague sliders but as stated, once the player reaches this age, it is downhill for the remainder of the career.
WHAT I WANTED TO DO
After having some conversations with Dreece and Blindside, I decided that I wanted to do whatever we could to mimic a real draft experience. The truth is that the draft should actually be very very difficult. I think we do a good job with that but the extra resources provided to you by the game make the draft much easier than it is in real life. This is one of the few things that Madden has done well for the past few years. You can draft a player in the first round that is a complete waste of a draft pick. Now I know some of you may be thinking that it doesn’t happen that often but it happens ALL the time… .especially in basketball. Let’s look at the top ten picks for a few real life draft classes and classify those guys as either a “worthy of pick”, a “bust” or “debatable”.
Let’s travel back seven years to 2009 first and look at the first ten picks.
1) Blake Griffin – WORTHY OF PICK
2) Hasheem Thabeet - BUST
3) James Harden – WORTHY OF PICK
4) Tyreke Evans – DEBATABLE
5) Ricky Rubio – DEBATABLE (but for the record I think worthy)
6) Jonny Flynn - BUST
7) Stephen Curry – WORTHY OF PICK
8) Jordan Hill - BUST
9) Demar Derozan – WORTHY OF PICK
10) Brandon Jennings – WORTHY OF PICK
So in the 2009 draft there are three guys that were absolutely not worth the pick. Of the ten teams that picked there, 30% just completely blew it. Let’s look at another draft. How about three years prior…. 2006.
1) Andrea Bargnani – Ehhh, let’s say DEBATABLE
2) LaMarcus Aldridge – WORTHY OF PICK
3) Adam Morrison - BUSTTTTTT
4) Tyrus Thomas – BUST
5) Shelden Williams - BUST
6) Brandon Roy – WORTHY OF PICK (Injuries aside)
7) Randy Foye - DEBATABLE
8) Rudy Gay – WORTHY OF PICK
9) Patrick O’Bryant - BUST
10) Mouhamed Sene – BUST
So in the 2006 draft, of the ten picks HALF of them were absolute busts with some of them not even hanging around the league for more than four or five years. Now I know a lot of you are saying “You’re just picking out classes to make your point”. Ok, well let’s go back another three years to what many consider to be one of the best draft classes of all time… 2003.
1) LeBron James – WORTHY OF PICK
2) Darko Milicic - BUST
3) Carmelo Anthony – WORTHY OF PICK
4) Chris Bosh – WORTHY OF PICK
5) Dwayne Wade – WORTHY OF PICK
6) Chris Kaman – WORTHY OF PICK
7) Kirk Hinrich – DEBATABLE
8) T.J. Ford – DEBATABLE
9) Michael Sweetney - BUST
10) Jarvis Hayes – DEBATABLE
So even in one of the best classes of all time (let’s say that our DC3 is the equivalent of this class), there are still two COLOSSAL busts. So after a ton of talking that leads me to my point…. We want to make it so that you can actually FAIL at the draft. We want to make it so that you can draft a guy that gives you hope one day and is not even on your roster or possibly in the league after four or five years.
HOW WE ARE GOING TO DO IT
Remember that peak start and peak end we were talking about earlier? That is the ultimate key to tricking the CPU in to recommending a guy at the top of the draft that is actually a bust waiting to happen. The key is allowing certain players to still have the potential that we have assigned him but to give the “busts” a very early peak start and a very early peak end. The game sees that player with a high overall/potential and disregards the peak start/end and continues to rate him very highly when you are looking at the big boards. For the first time, this will allow for actual busts to be drafted. In addition to that, increasing the peak start and peak end age just slightly can actually lead to player’s getting “bad contracts”.
WHEN WILL THIS BE IMPLEMENTED
DC5! I’m really looking forward to hearing your thoughts about this. Give me some feedback guys.
P.S. What up Jumpoff! The reason that I didn’t include the top 100 high school recruits is in the DC5 scouting report is because it requires me to have the template done four classes ahead and I’m still working on the DC9 template. As soon as I have finished it I will re-release the scouting report with the top 100 freshmen.Sideline Football League

Ok so you guys are mind readers as well? I was just about to come in and ask if any of the players could be a bust because everyone that I've acquired is solid. So please if you don't mind, get out of my brain before you see something foul lol.
Started a my gym with the Suns with you guys roster and sliders and I'm impressed. I drafted Che (again) I couldn't resist. I was going to go with Hill but the sixers made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm probably going to sim through to the next draft and see what it's looking like.Comment

Love what you guys do. I was thinking the other day it would be cool to do a roster or old draft classes and reverse the busts and the actual successull players. Sometimes injuries ruin careers, other times something goes wrong and they never can regain confidence. Knowing some people who have played professional sports but have had more journeymen like careers I've seen the struggle and misfortune of some. A lot of the guys had the talent it just didn't click for whatever reason.
Just an idea. Keep up the good work. I appreciate itComment

Re: SimWorld’s 2k16 Fictional Draft Classes by CWSapp/Dreece/Blindside (XBOX One)
It's gone Very well.
Without going into too much detail.
We tested the lottery players of a class and the edited peak players got picked at 1,5,13,18 by the CPU. Then began to sim through about 10 years in a myleague.
We had one guy retire after about 3 seasons. Then had a couple others overall dramatically drop downhill after a few seasons. Right after the CPU had handed them a fat extension.
Which is exactly what we wanted to happen.Comment

No. We'll still have different potentials. I don't want to say too much just yet. But all will be revealed as we get closer to the class coming out.Comment

Speaking of that, Draft Class 5 should be released within the next 12 hours. Blindside will be uploading so keep a look out for his post. Also, as discussed in my previous post, "busts" will now be possible as well and they will be different for each version so pleaseeeeee keep it to yourself if you find one. After that I will be re-releasing the scouting report with the top 100 high school recruits and then it is on to DC6. Thank you guys for all of the support.SimWorld NBA 2K19 Fictional Draft Classes

I'm just getting into these classes, I was thinking of using only scouting report to draft. Is that gonna be too hard?

I wouldn't say too hard. It'll definitely give you more realism. Some use the scouting report in combination with the game.
For me I scout each player once in game and use the report also. Which definitely still makes for a ton of risky decisions.Comment
