Re: PSA: A guide for fictional draft class makers

I think if you can edit 80 - 100 prospects thats a good amount of players, 150 is just too much time for players who will never be used!...

Ideally if 10 people worked on one draft class each and followed the same attribute/tendancy formula to plug and play with 2ks roster we could all have deeper MyLeagues!...that way the grind of having to complete 10 or so on your own is narrowed own too just one class...which we now can update after uploading!.

I'm currently away at the moment but I'm thinking of joining the PS4 community when I am back home.

I would even wager that 50 is plenty, no offense. There is no way that more than 35-40 players in any one draft class play more than 4 years in the league, if that.

      Kickass post, much appreciated insights.

Typically I think 60 - 70 players would be ideal, just to have 2 full rounds of a draft class, last year I did anywhere from 40-46 but this year I think I'm going to try at least 75 to 80 per class. Hopefully I can achieve this goal.

Another thing I would like to point out.

Most of the players drafted are either Freshman or Seniors; usually if a guy stays past his freshman year he stays for all 4. Only 8-12 guys are Sophmores or Juniors.

Also, if a guy is a Freshman odds are he is a one and done player because he has massive ability. The first round is mainly Freshman (50ish percent) with the remaining players being Internationals, seniors, and a handful of SO and JRs.

If the 1st round was the FR round, the 2nd round is the SR round. These are the players who only left college because they have to and have limited potential left which is why they are the second rounders. The occasional FR SO and JR will appear here but most guys do not enter the draft because they stay to try and improve their draft stock.

I think that many teams do target young freshmen players in the first round but it doesn’t necessarily always play out that way either.

If we look at the famous 2003 draft, there were not many freshmen taken in the first round at all. If you count the high school players as Freshmen, there were still only a total of six (Lebron, Carmelo, Chris Bosh, Travis Outlaw, Ndudi Ebi and Kendrick Perkins). Only the first three listed went in the top half of the first round.

The first round itself consisted of 3 high school seniors, 3 freshmen, 1 sophomore, 5 juniors (that all went in the lottery), 9 seniors and the rest International.

Moving closer to the present with the 2010 NBA draft, there were a total of 7 freshmen taken in the first round. Of that 7, only 4 were taken in the top 15. Surprisingly, there were 6 juniors taken in that same top 15. There was also the same amount of sophomores taken in that same group (4) as freshmen.

Just 3 years ago, the 2013 draft saw more sophomores taken in the first round than freshman with only 1 freshman (Anthony Bennett) and 3 sophomores (Otto Porter, Cody Zeller and Alex Len) taken in the top 5. In total, the first round of that draft saw 6 freshmen, 7 sophomores, 7 juniors and 3 seniors taken.

The last two drafts however, there were more freshmen taken in the first round with 10 of the first 17 picks being freshmen in 2015 and 5 of the first 8 picks being freshmen in 2016.

I guess all I am saying is to not be afraid to mix it up a bit as well!

hey CWSapp757, im working on a draft class right now and i'm wondering about badges... is 2k17 any better at players gaining badges as they develop or is it still wonky like last year? i guess im wondering how many badges (and what level) would be appropriate for prospects? thanks!

We are testing it now but yellz is usually the mastermind behind breaking down badges and the appropriate amount to distribute. Unfortunately we haven't quite figured it out so I'm not really giving out any at the moment.

Glad everyone resonated with the post.

I honestly think 40 fully edited & detailed players is enough for a draft class. 60 is even better, but you don't want to burn yourselves out. Personally I'd prefer 2 classes of 40 edited players rather than 1 class of 80, but that's just me.

Question for CWSapp757, how do you guys collaborate on draft classes exactly? What's the process there in terms of delegating?
Do you assign people to x amount of players? Or do you assign people to handle all attributes, then another guy to handle all animations, etc?

Also, how do you share/send files with each other?

Sorry for the delay. To be honest, for years me and Dreece have split things right down the middle. A few years ago I came to terms with the fact that Dreece just understands tendencies a lot more than I do. So the way we split it up is:

I put the classes together from scratch. I create "slots" for players (overall, potential) and then I insert players into those slots. I do this to ensure that I have a good balance of star players, role players, scrubs and busts. After that I create the class and edit the ratings, appearance, vital info, peak start, peak end and badges. From there, Dreece does pretty much everything else including tendencies, hot spots, additional appearance edits and playstyle.

We then test it to make sure things are operating the way we intend and then put it out.

Any chance we could create a template for ratings so all the different draft classes work together well ? Plus it would make it easier to edit ratings.
I'm a bit clueless with how to rate my rookies for some ratings.

Btw this thread should be sticked.

                              Hi all,

I'm trying to make a draft class and just want a few tips...

                              1. There's sooooo many players in the draft class....How many do I actually need to 'make' ?

                              2. Do I do an even number of each position? I was thinking of making 15 in each position, say 5 stars, 5 future stars/role players and 5 roster fillers. This would be 75 players, and the rest I would leave to be entire flops and I'd expect them to retire the following season.

                              3. Any other tips for me?

Is there a certain cutoff for player overall and player potential? Like what's the highest potential and player overall that realistic draft classes have. I try to make all of the players 79 overall and below and I typically don't go above 95 overall with the potential.
