Second Round Notes:
South Region
#1 Kansas keeps rolling, this time with a 15 point victory over UCLA. Jason Qualls and Jalen Braun combine for 47 points in the win.
#4 Michigan takes care of #5 UNLV 78-61 behind Jr. PF Jacoury Tate’s monster game (27 points / 16 rebounds)
#3 Florida advances with a 77-70 win over #11 West Virginia. Jr. SG ViJay Shaw shines for the Gators, scoring 26 points, and swiping 4 steals.
#2 Duke continues its collision course with Kansas with a 84-67 win over Iowa State. Duke had too much fire-power for Iowa State’s Colton Blake (33 points). Dustin Harrison led the Blue Devils in scoring with 22 points.
West Region
#1 Texas hangs on to win a close one over #8 Notre Dame, 76-72. With the game tied 72-72 with 37 seconds left, Sophomore PG Jameer Jackson drives to the hoop and finishes with an acrobatic layup, steals the ball on the defensive end with 13 seconds and gets fouled…hits both FT’s to seal the game.
#5 Iowa advances to the sweet sixteen with a 74-70 win over #4 California. Keenan Woods with another big game, this time scoring 33 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
#3 Ohio State defeats #6 Memphis 67-61. SF Cleveland Wilson notches a triple double in the win with 14 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds.
#2 Arizona is too much for #10 Tennessee, 86-68. Adrian Kemp and Michael Greene combine for 52 points and 21 rebounds.
East Region
#1 Kentucky struggles with #8 Auburn, but hangs on in OT 86-80. Kentucky Center Deven Sweetney got into foul trouble early which limited his minutes but he took over in the 2<sup>nd</sup> half and OT. Finishing with 26 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks.
#4 Fresno State outlasts #5 Houston, 73-71. Fresno State SF Jermaine Kelly locked down Houston Guard Jerran Terry on the last possession, resulting in an off-balance shot that just grazed the rim.
#11 Wake Forest with another upset, this time beating #3 Villanova 67-64. Freshman SG Martin Bowman scored 16 points to lead the Demon Deacons.
#10 LSU moves onto the sweet sixteen with a 74-61 win over #2 Gonzaga. The LSU inside-outside combo of PG Amber Cross and C Kareem Cox was too much for Gonzaga to handle.
Midwest Region
#1 Indiana walks all over #8 UCONN 86-61. They started off hot and never let off the gas. Indiana So. PF Joshua O’Gallagher scored 26 points.
#5 UOP advances to the Sweet Sixteen with a 74-69 win over #4 Georgetown. UOP SG Clinton Reid led all scorers with 27 points.
#3 UNC holds off a late rally from #6 Mississippi State 80-76. UNC Sr SF Jarvis Parker scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in the win. Fr PG Otis Brooks led the way for Miss. State with 22 points and 6 assists in the loss.
#2 Stanford takes care of #10 Oklahoma 81-76. So. SF Anthony Vaden had 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the Cardinal. Oklahoma So PF Rudy Baker had 21 points in the loss.
