Always good to hear they're working on the defense.

Off-ball control sounds sick, but hopefully it doesn't give too much ability to let the CPU play for you, because that can be problematic (especially online). I like the idea of being able to control the passer, the receiver, or another guy on any play. Sounds like PG play will be a lot better just because you're able to direct teammates better -- seems like a lot of the turnovers in 2K7 come from the guy receiving the ball getting in a bad position or otherwise making a stupid move. Having more user control of the AI players is a good thing.

I hope we can turn off the reception bars and other on-screen help.

Sounds like good stuff though. Hot Spots sounds a lot more subtle than Live's version. And off-ball control sounds nice, but again, I hope we can turn off the icons... as long as there's some science to cycling through the players.

And I can't help but wonder how much CPU help you get when using "Lock-on".

          Vids please, VC!!!

When playing NBA 2K8, you might notice a small icon underneath player's feet, one that looks suspiciously like cell phone reception bars. No, NBA 2K8 won't have LeBron asking if you can hear him now
I'm sure LeBron's reception bar from mid range and outside are very crappy, he will probably need a different Reception provider

Everything sounds good. The off the ball controls sounds too complicated for me. Can't wait for a trailer.

Doesn't sound much different than running plays, except with 2 men. Sounds good for getting the specific player you want to come off a screen, post, or screen for the ball handler.

The "Get Open" command sounds cool. Makes me wonder if you can "Lock-on" to players without the ball. That would be nice for denying the ball from specific players, especially in key situations. And that reminds me...

I hope they improved out of bounds plays. End of quarter/half/game situations lacked control and urgency.

hope they improved crowd atmosphere... and i like 2k's more subtle approach to "hot zones"

Well the article mentioned that you can take control of the passer, the receiver/shooter, or a 3rd man who isn't involved in the 2-man play. So to me, that sounds like it's giving you the ability to have the computer pass and shoot for you, leaving you able to just try and collect manual rebounds... I know that I'm good at rebounding, so if I decided to do that, I think it might be an unfair advantage, especially if the computer can shoot for you (since it tends to make 90% of its open looks). I dunno, that's the problem with off-ball defense -- the CPU is controlling the man defender... it just seems like this might open up that kind of issue on offense.

Of course if it's implemented (and used) realistically, then it would be a great addition to the series. But I'm just nervous about what kind of safeguards they have that keep people from sitting back and letting the CPU do things for them.

Considering that they didn't update/overhaul the graphics or game engine, I was hoping to hear more substantial improvements to gameplay than this. Perhaps they're still coming.

Agreed. 2k7 was a great game, but I played it to death. If this is all 2k8 is bringing, I'll buy Live this year just for a change of pace.
