Re: New Info From Gamespot!!!
Your issue with being a sports game fan is either semantics or the product of some sports fanatic dialectic. Either way, I digress.
The subjective end of the deal is decided by the consumer. Again, this is general knowledge of how this particular section of entertainment sales work. You buy what you deem has value and pass on what you don't.
I'm not going to pick apart the specifics of your argument and cite how Aristotle's Poetics(a thin volume) has more value than Dan Brown's DaVinci code(many pages), because that's still subjective and up to you.
And hey, if all you can glean from this conversation is the assumption that I'm willing to pay full price for every product, then I'll leave that failure of deduction between you and your reading comprehension.
I don't see the need to move it. I just see the need to have certain teams use it according the the skill level that a player has. Dirk could use something like that. That's probably about it though. If teams could really use the plays that their players could run well, I'd be down for whatever the heck they have in the game. I just hate not being able to adjust the game so players who aren't suppose to be doing crap like that aren't. I hated having Haslem busting them on me for like 25 a game. Then going to Toronto to have Chris Bosh busting those on me more than he played near the paint. I'm sure they're getting it right though. Hope they tweak the sliders to adjust to what we need for the maximum potential.Comment

It's got some cute words in it, but it doesn't change the fact that he's a little more than suspect as a fanboy for challenging my desire to get loads of new features included in a $60 game that does not have a new game engine or graphics.Comment

Okay, maybe I'm lost in reading the threads. What graphics problems do you have so far? What new features are you looking forward to? What system are you playing on? What games do you have on that system? I'm very curious. PM me if you have the chance. I'm very interested.Comment

My IQ went up a few levels after reading this delightful response. I love posts like this.

I've learned to shut this play down most of the time. This was one of the key plays in teaching me to properly contest a shot to lower it's percentage. I play with the Lakers, and I have Harrington at PF via trade, so running out at them to stop the play isn't too hard with either him or Odom. But with some guys, they should miss that shot EVERY TIME, lol. So even if I've stopped it five times, they shouldn't hit it at time number six, lol. I think Anderson Verajo busted that on me once. I'm like, "what???", anyone but you! And the screen on that play is the most effective screen in the history of screens.Last edited by Bornindamecca; 08-26-2007, 07:39 AM.Comment

Re: New Info From Gamespot!!!
Does anyone else want the computer A.I. to play defenses other than man to man or full court press (when losing)? It seems that is all the computer does. I would love to face a team where I have to prepare for the type of defense they run (kinda like Choops). Change it up with the different type of zones run in the NBA.O.G. - Original Gamer '87 NES

Re: New Info From Gamespot!!!
Choops2k7 is a very good example. Playing against Florida was very unique because, I often saw Noah playing in the High Post setting screens and doing the little things outside that he does in real life.
And Horford pretty much stayed down low trying to score from inside. Noah rarely looks to score but, he is very active on the perimeter setting screens and dishing the post entry passes to Horford at times. This is a very unique playset (big men playing outside facing the basket) that creates much better court spacing that alot of NBA teams use also.
I would like to see more playsets like this in NBA2K8. Like Camby doesn't play on the inside at all in the NBA, he pretty much stays out in the elbow area and out along the baseline for 15-18 footers. I would like to see VC better represent how players operate within their teams playbooks.
It's like PF and Centers go to the same spots on the floor down low for each team, even though alot of them like Camby, Dirk, Jamison, Brad Miller, Okur, etc. play almost exclusively facing the basket out on the perimeter.
It just looks odd to see these guys trying to bang down low for position when they should be set up strictly outside like IRL. I think this is another reason why 2K often has problems representing proper spacing.
These players are unique and alot of teams have them because they can shoot from the outside and also spread out the D and create passing lanes for cutters and such.
The Team playbooks in this series are VERY deep, alot of these unique playsets are already in the game. However, I just hope the user can 'finally' have the option to go in and customize each team's playbook in order to get the teams to run more sets similiar to their real life counterparts.
You could change team plays in 2k7 but, the AI would not recognise the changes at all. VC just needs to get the AI to not only call a wider variety of plays/playsets out of each teams playbooks but, also the AI needs to run the plays that are set by the user whenever changes are made to team playbooks.Comment

Re: New Info From Gamespot!!!
I do know that plays will be a big focus again for 2K8. See, in 2K3, running plays actually had a beneficial factor in winning games. It also had assistence in learning plays by on court help in practice mode. However, VC removed it when they released 2K4, and they completely removed play sets as well. 2K7 is still building on the 2K4 logic, and plays did come back into 2K5. It is said that 2K8 will once again have on court visuals to assist in running plays, so I assume that play calling will be a legit need when it comes to winning games.
The idea sounds a bit like NCAA March Maddness where it gave diagrams on where to be to run the play. I believe that this will be in 2K8, which will make online play a bit more realstic IMO. If you have on court visuals that only you can see, then you have a slight chess match type of game where both online players are running plays, instead of running back and forth attempting to drive the lane. If it's like 2K3's practice mode, expect a much better representation of basketball. Mark my words.Comment

Re: New Info From Gamespot!!!
Good points but, I do not play online and I call plays when i play the cpu. I'm talking strictly about the AI inability to utilize playsets for different CPU controlled teams, that fits their personnel.
Like I said alot of the playsets are already in the game but, the AI doesn't use them. VC just needs to take the time and match these playsets with the different team's personnel.
Worst case just let the user be able to edit the CPU's controlled teams playbooks AND have the CPU actually run the playsets that the user has set for the AI.
Right now if you play a game of NBA2K7...Jamison, Okur and Camby for example often go down the court and run right down to the low block as if they are post players which they are not.
The reason being is that the AI 'initially' only recognises the position they play which is PF and C. Not the way their particular team uses them and their play style.
It would be nice for the team playsets to reflect that these guys shouldn't be posting up down low and have them positioned outside in most of the plays run for their team. The playsets in Choops2k7 were very well done so, maybe NBA2K8 will get a much needed overhaul in this area.
Another thing I've been waiting for VC to do is add playsets for guys like Lebron, Tmac, Kobe, etc. to initiate the offense, instead of always having to play off the ball. These type of plays are not in the game yet.
No game to this point has the AI run a 1-4 set out top, with the star SG/SF with the ball in isolation or screen roll situations correctly. The majority of the time these guys have to receive the ball from the PG, instead of bringing the ball up court and creating for other teammates as they often do IRL.Comment

Re: New Info From Gamespot!!!
Only thing I really hope 2K do with this playcalling thing is to STOP HAVING THE CPU RUN THE OFFENSE THROUGH THE PG EVERYTIME. Seemed like every game, the pg no matter who could be nash could be eric snow...would have about 5-7 assists in the first quarterComment
