Re: Gamespot Review: 7.0? (less than Madden? LMAO)

Would be better to debate what he said rather than fault him for being the one that said it. If Moegames is going to make ridiculous statements then those statements should be called out.

I think if a direct comparison was made to the features/gameplay/overall quality between these games it's really not even close. Even comparing them "out of the box" it's really not even close. I don't want to make this about Madden but there were a ton of issues for Madden "out of the box". Replays not working, no cpu/hum running game, QBs that wouldn't take sacks, lack of defensive pass rush, borked OL line blocking, etc. etc. etc.... I mean there were a TON of things. And even slider adjustments didn't fix a lot of it. One of the things Madden's first patch did was to try to make the sliders more effective lol! And this is without touching on issues like backs like Adrian Petersen having the exact same running style as Brandon Jacobs, who runs exactly like Hines Ward - because they all have the same running animation. But because it's an improvement over the horrid (but improving) previous efforts it's given more leeway than any other game. Does Madden even have custom stadium sounds? Any? Unique team/player intros that are any good? The Ray Lewis pre-game dance is horrible in comparison to anything 2K10 has pregame.

I didn't mean to get into some rant, I just hate how these games aren't judged using the same criteria or standards. As I said earlier in the thread it's past the point of ridiculousness imo
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Well I wonder if they will update the score when a patch is released. Less than Madden or Live? Hilarious.

had 2K's score been 7.6, i don't think we'd be having this ridiculous discussion, all that seems to matter here is if it's higher than the competition. that's what i see anyways.

I'm sorry you feel that way, Giving 2k10 a 7, is a low score IMO. Don't get me wrong though i got love for gamespot/ ign and the good reviews that they do since i play more than just sports titles. I just didn't like that revew. Now i'm sure everyone here on this board who OWNS 2k10 is pissed off at bugs and such, but they are not that game-breaking for me to want to cry about it.(i'll wait for the patch for that)

Do i feel like a beta tester at times? yeah sure i do, but more than that, i just appreciate the fact that 2k don't mind taken our input on certain issues and try to fix them.

Ultimatly, the score that important the most is he one from us ... the actual gamers ... just look at the rating and while I dont care about the exact number, I do on what it is reflecting bellow the surface: that this is a good game despite all the glitches and bugs ... and better than its competition ...

I hear ya, man, but check out 2K's curent rep for patches from their MLB 2K9 patches. They were weak and helped very little. It didn't make the game any more playable than it was outta the box.

I give things a fair shake. I really do, but when something is obviously not right, I see it for what it is and 2K Sports latest releases are not right. Their developmental focus seems off.

? While I'd agree regarding the MLB2K9 patch, the NBA2K9 patch was a nice improvement to the gameplay and provided nice fixes. Historically NBA2K's patches have all been nice improvements on the core game.

If anything perhaps they need to hold back on some of the things they add to their games because ultimately I'm not sure they're appreciated that much. For example, they're the only basketball game with in-game saves - but I've read some blame their game freezing on it. I haven't seen it myself and I don't know if they were aware of it being an issue (if it was a known issue) but would it had been better to hold the feature back? They've done a ton of work differentiating players so big men like Yao and Shaq, or similar players like Nash or Chris Paul feel unique - little things that really don't go appreciated. The awesome job they do with post game that doesn't get talked about much/doesn't appear to move the needle because it seems many expect these things from 2K while not holding other devs to the same standard. I really don't get where their developmental focus seems "off". If anything maybe they should focus on "big ideas" since most reviewers don't seem to appreciate the smaller details they put into the game. And 2K themselves don't break their arms patting themselves on the back for doing it

I just think that sometimes 2K tries to do too much with their games and focus on the wrong things. They should be concentrating their work on the core gameplay of the sport since they have issues in that aspect.

I don't have NBA 2K10, but it couldn't possibly be as bad as MLB 2K9. Right ? Can anyone confirm this for me ?

Well I could agree with the "sometimes tries to do too much" thing. But I'm not sure what gives you the idea they didn't focus on core gameplay as well as other aspects of the game. Isomotion, post game play, player interaction, etc. all vastly much improved. High shooting percentages "out of the box" doesn't mean the game is broken, or that they're purposely trying not to make the best basketball game they can. If anything they seemed to take a very broad-based approach to developing the game and seem to have tried to touch on every aspect of the game

actually, it's really close, but a lot of people just have their "2K" goggles on.

Glad to see someone finally taking this series to task for what has been a string of buggy, mediocre releases in the last two years.

2K games are a far cry from what they used to be.

This series used to be the sim champion but ever since 2K9 it's been a paint-fest with no interior defense to get in the way of the constant dunks/layups.
