This is the most accurate sports review Gamespot has ever done. I disagree with his opinion on the grading in My Player though. Good grade plays lead to winning. I'm 6 games into my season and I think I got one A, and all of the rest of the scores were A+'s. And this is without a 99 speed or 99 quickness.

Of course out of the box is important when you can't edit sliders in ranked matches or My Player mode.

This trend started with the last generation, and has gotten worse and worse as time has gone on. With the ability to patch console games, developers have taken the same route they took for a long time on PC games. When a game was broken in the past, the release date would be pushed back to make sure the game was as good as possible, because there wouldn't be any saving grace patch. Today, the game is released in whatever state they decide is good enough, and then a month or so later you get to play the real product. To me, that is totally unacceptable.

To everyone who says"wait for the patch", well this review is not based on a patch nor should it be. I am surprised 2k has not done more damage control and made a public apology to the fans who consistently make there games #1, I am willing to bet it won't be next year. 2k might be the better game in a month or even later but I would rather play a Live game that somehow defense is much better, online is smooth and has very few bugs then have my game crashing all the time, unplayable online, Association has to many bugs etc...

It's time for people to quit defending a product as a "fanboy" and start getting upset as a "customer" who has clearly been duped and lied to. Not to mention still has not heard any apology or hear 2k take responsibility for what is clearly a bugged game. Instead they get upset when we complain and act like they are doing us a favor to get a patch out quickly.

Thank you, and add to the fact 2k didn't even release a demo for the PS3. They did a bad job this year, everything seems un organized.

FYI, I've made the same error before.

Bill Abner did do a review of Madden, but it's a different Bill(Bill Harris) who has the sliders for Madden at OS. Abner used to say that they are often confused and he calls him his twin brother.

People pay $60 for the game to work when they play it.....not so they have to go and "fix" things with sliders.

I have been playing 2K B-ball since 2002....and I have never thought they would have released a B-Ball game with so many issues! And the other game may have a few issues as well, but 2K is supposed to be "the Standard" not the Madden of the NBA.

That review is terrible, or at least the score definitely is. It describes it as being shallow... from that point onwards the review was a total joke. 2k10 is as in-depth a sports game as there is.

I don't have the game yet(i'm from europe and ordered the US version) but I know a 7 is too low compared to nba 2k9 rating and nba live 10.

That's the point right there. Why would you expect 2k10 to get a higher score for pretty much failing an open book test?

"Out of the box", the game comes with sliders. This shouldn't be an issue. The bottom line is that you can get a sim game using them. If you don't, it's on you the gamer. That said, I don't mind the score. I just don't like the way the review marginalized some of the game's biggest strengths.

Thx you're right; it's BillHarris that has the Madden slider thread. I still stand by the comment about Bill_Abner though; he's posted in the impressions thread where BillHarris hasn't. I just remember seeing his comments as odd, considering what I remember him writing in his Madden review - like so many others using that "the game's not perfect" caveat to justify/minimize an issue. Whereas this game (and the ones before it) seem to have a constantly moving bar it's held to.

Have to look no further than this thread. This thread alone has many are using the "out of the box" catchphrase to justify scoring the game a certain way. Not that you can't get the game to play really good; now I guess slider usage is considered to be a huge negative by some. I don't disagree that the game should've played better at default. But imo it requires far less gameplay tuning than last year, and 2K has given people far more tools to make it easier to tweak gameplay be it more customization options, tweakable sliders, downloadable sliders/settings, than most games have. And as usual most attention is focused on the game's perceived faults rather than the depth/options it offers.

I know reviews are all subjective, but it's past the point of ridiculousness. IGN rated Live '05 (PS2) a 9 - yet even in it's review it said it wasn't a very realistic game. People on different sites chided them hard for that. The next year 2K does a great job with 2K6, with transitioning to next gen, and Live falls off a cliff with Live '06 next gen. But it's not like the PS2 version changed much. They gave it a 6.8 I think. How could there be THAT big a difference between the '05/'06 versions? And as I've said many times, IGN's never rated Madden - even the horrible '06/'07 editions - below an 8. I don't mind games being scored a certain way, I'd just like the games to be held to the same standard and they aren't. It's just sad the reviewers aren't consistent with the criteria used to judge games. So much so that none are worth reading anymore
