I wonder if you can make guys slide or stumble from breaking them down on the dribble
I took Bynum after a made basket and tried to guard Rondo. Bynum fell down instantly as he tried to move laterally with quickness.. I only saw it once and I never really tried again.. Give it a shot

The more I play, the more I notice that each possession is different, in regards to CPU defender intensity. Some plays, I can do all sorts of fancy stuff with Kobe as the defender is back a bit and there is no contact disrupting my flow. Other times, it's just not meant to be, with a defender crowding me, preventing some movements.

MC, I noticed that kobe mix is taken from a couple games/maybe a dozen. Im guessing you tried other Kobe moves without much success as you were filming for the mix? People get the impression that you can do that every time down. But its a highlight tape. Am I wrong?

Maybe it's not the control some people want, but in some sense, it's feeling more realistic than ever. Should Kobe always be able to get off a double size up right cross over left move? Or in some regards, is it situation specific?

Do users want ultimate freedom of control and then complain when there allowed to do it, or how it appears 2k11 has done contact/control.

With no contact, people complain moves are too easy
With contact, people complain the moves aren't consistent

As always I could be looking too much into it
You can't please everyone. What I've been trying to do is learn the moves to just get a feel for things. People forget that good basketball means you attack one-on-one from:

      1. Pick and Rolls
      2. Triple Threat/Post-Ups
      3. Open Court.

Dancing around doing size-ups and trying to cross over/drive all the time isn't how basketball SHOULD be played. This is why I like the balance 2K11 is offering. It will work sometimes, but if that's the only way you try to "take" someone, it shouldn't work consistently. I suggest people spend more time trying to learn how to attack out of the triple threat. It is way more effective to drive this way than doing size-ups/crossovers.

Loving the demo, especially please with the graphical upgrade. Only thing thats unimpressive to me is the IsoMotion. They'se said all along that this year is " ALL-NEW Isomotion". But i see no difference at all from last years game. Has anyone figured out what so new about it?

How do you perform up and under moves? The shot modifier, what's it's purose? Lastly, I know the insight said the same moves can now be accomplished with both the stick and the button, but is there a significantly huge difference?

then flick the shot stick like a pump fake or like u goin another direction(still holdin Trigger or L2)

then release the trigger or L2 and move the stick up. down. left. or right to get different shot/layup animations.

the key is timing or else u'll just get a pump fake, a fake pass, or a misdirection with no shot after

but u'll get the hang of it with kobe.

of course its only the demo so we cant use players tht would b great with this like derrick rose, and chris paul but wen u start to get the hang of how the shot modifier/dribble modifier(left trigger or L2 lol) really works its some crazy inovation. the possibility is almost endless...regular layups. up. down. left. right. (w/no turbo) or (w/turbo). or add the (shot modifier) with the trigger and get a completely different variety of layups WITH flare @ ur disposal. not to mention u still need speed to dunk so pressing (turbo w/shot modifier) still gives u dunks AND/OR! layups depending on the player, his position on the court, which way you move the stick AND/OR! the situation.

and this is jus the demo but once u start gettin the hang of knowing wen to execute the moves i thnk u'll enjoy the control u have.

try givin the ball 2 kobe every time down the court and wait for space to clear. give a couple jab steps with the modifier to create space to drive with kobe. and while still holding the trigger with no turbo flick the stick the direction u want to fake except down of course becuz wht sense would a down fake make (lol u can really flick down for a pump fake animation tho) then like i said before finish out the shot animation by letting the modifier go and moving the stick in another direction. i thnk u can use turbo as well but i say lay off the turbo until u can clearly see its time to use it becuz it cause more contact in the paint area. without turbo u'll atempt a layup or shot(the shots out of the fakes with kobe are ridiculous. looks just like him in the demo) with it its like trying to dunk bcuz thts wht the command is telling the system regardless of the situation (2k gives u control) so only use turbo wen u clearly have the advantage to use it other wise its a waste of energy (not sure if u can use the modifier for the fake AND for the finish yet. havnt been able to get that timing down but im sure u can if u let it go.) works every time and i've seen a different animation every time it works. give it a try with kobe tho.

im gonna go try out some more moves. u can still hop step and hop spin on command with trianlge or y i thnk 2 so im gonna see wht those look like. not 2 mention the sig gathers. crazy control
ok thanks..I'll try it out when I get home and let you know how it turns out

Steve Blake came in instead -.-
I had one play where I took a charge with Fisher, and he falls to the ground. He gets up, looks fine at first, then starts clutching his chest. He does so for like 20 seconds (literally) and then motions like he's waving off a sub (like I'm alright, let me stay in), but he gets subbed out anyway. Nice little touch there. It would have been better if other players would have came over to see if he was okay though.

I was asking because yes, my guess was 2K wasn't alone in not anti-aliasing. That being said, my point wasn't to give you a hard time about it (I'll leave that to boilerbuz :wink. I just wanted to get an idea what the norm was.

You say the jaggies look worse on 2K's games. I'm curious, are you running the game in 720p or 1080(i or p)? If 1080, can I you try 720p? I know it is counter-intuitive, but I think the game actually runs natively at 720 and upscales to 1080, and I'm wondering if that is part of why it looks worse to you.

Re: NBA 2K11 Demo Available Now, Impressions and Discussion Here (360,PS3)

I'm glad I waited until today to post my impressions. Had I posted them yesterday or the day before yesterday like I had planned, they would have been generally negative. What a difference a day can make if you just give it a little more time before making an opinion.

                        What I Love:

                        - I love how the AI Defense (both Human and CPU) plays the passing lanes. Passes that I know for a fact would have been successful in 2K10 are no no's in 2K11. This may finally be the game where having those gem point guards that can thread needles really make a difference (which I think was talked about in one of the Insights)

                        - I love how aggressively the Human AI rebounds now. In last year's game, the Human AI was very pedestrian on the boards. I felt cheated out of a lot of rebound opportunities when playing on Superstar or Hall of Fame. I'm glad to see that every rebound I missed was based on better position by the opposing team and not lack of effort from my team.

                        - The jump shots feel very intuitive this year. I can go by the "feel" now whether I put up a quality shot or not. Last year, shooting felt more like a crap shoot and really felt like ratings were the only important factor, not spacing or touch like in this year's game.

                        - The CPU actually misses wide open shots. In 2K10, it felt like the CPU never missed. I'm seeing that FG% are more accurate this year as well because of the missed shots.

                        - Defense is so fun to play. It seems as though they may finally gotten it right. I wish we still had the ability to shade to one side like in 2K9. If they could add that ability, I would just cream my pants.

                        - Being able to post up on the perimeter is a Godsend!! Doing fadeaways with Kobe has never felt better. I can only imagine what it will be like controlling MJ because that was the staple of his game during the second 3-peat era.

                        - I love how passes are influenced by accuracy now. It seemed that in 2K10, the only passes that were ever off target were the forced full court passes. I love getting the rebound with Bynum, rushing to initiate the break, doing a quick pass to Kobe only for the pass to be behind him causing him to have to turn around to retrieve it and therefore negating the fastbreak because the defense was able to recover. Have big men with great outlet passing ability should make a big difference this year.

                        - Like others have touched on, blocking feels so nice, although I enjoyed blocking in last year's game as well.

                        - The out of bounds force field seems to be gone.

                        What I dislike:

                        - I hope they can add the ability to walk the ball. I don't know what kind of animation they have in place right now, but I hope it's gone in time before the game releases.

                        - Some of the ball ghosting (the ball going through players) is still evident as it has been in previous editions (although not near the frequency as before)

                        - All of the animation speeds don't seem to be in-synced. For instance, the running animation is too fast compared to the rest of the game. It just looks and feels awkward to me. The ball looks like it's moving too fast as well in some instances as well. On some shots and passes, it looks like a laser coming out of the player's hands.

Overall, I'm happy with the demo. The game just feels so much more dynamic now. I feel that every my success and failure versus the computer is totally on me and my decision making and my ability to take advantage of my team's assets and limit the harm of our liabilities. I feel that each individual play plays out like it should based on the decision making of my team and the cpu's. I can't wait to get the full game where I'll be able to make some personal tweaks (slowing the game speed a bit, zooming out the camera angle, playing with my new look Nets) and really enjoy what this game has to offer.

Great post. I feel too feel in so much more control of what my players are doing. The rebounding is huge. I used to get so pissed off in 2K9 about that. Guys would just stand around. I can already tell running plays is going to be key in this game and running a diverse set of plays will be the measure of success. Playing the CPU (which is all I really do on B-Ball games) is going to be amazing this go around. The controls just feel so good.

A few pages back some guys complained that the game lacks control. WTH? Can you change direction when you go for a dunk IRL full speed? Can you change direction when you try to cross someone out hard (in the middle)? Can you break contact if someone is really determined to body you up? Those are things that can't be done in the game and that is the way it should be and stay that way.
On a second thought there are always guys IRL that think can shoot turnaround J's all the time, but they air-ball an open set shots consistently. Daydreamers.
