Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

I'm now up 2-0 on the Lakers in the NBA Finals after a very close call. The Lakers went up on my Miami Heat by as much as 18 in the first quarter, and by the time the first quarter ended they were up by 15. I responded with a monstrous second quarter and outscored them by 18 in the second. They pulled ahead again by 1 by the end of the third, but I pulled away at the end and ended up winning by 12, though obviously the game was a lot closer than the score describes. I will finish the NBA Finals tomorrow and update on how it concluded then.

Probably going to start a new association tonight. Haven't got a clue who I am gonna go as though. Timberwolves and Hornets would be cool but already had failed attempts with them over the last two weeks. Might try out the Jazz. Anyone got any reccomendations?

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Just bounced back for my loss to the Heat with a 19-point win over Washington. Tony Parker got 32pts/7ast and Blake Griffin 30pts/13rebs.

After a lot of turnovers against Miami, I steadied the ship here and came out with a really good result.

12-11 now with 6 games left, and I probably need 4 wins to make the playoffs. The Clippers are now only 0.5 games behind the 8th placed TrailBlazers, so I'm confident I can get into the postseason.

Swept the Lakers 4-0. It was a really tough series as, besides the first game, I fell behind big early on in the game. I kept coming back though and etched out two wins in their building by mere points. Was a very fun series and the Lakers played fantastic, I just played a little better.

Now in the off-season and did the White House visit again, same as last season, and I even though I've done it before, I find the White House visit to be pretty cool.

Some really good players retired this year, including Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, and my very own Zydrunas Illgauskas. Some coaches retired too in Phil Jackson and Larry Brown.

I proceeded to complete the draft lottery and I have the #10 pick (via 76ers in a trade that netted them Marc Gasol). I traded for the pick when they were the #4 seed about halfway through the season, I trade Tyson Chandler, Andre Miller, Sasha Vujacic, who were all my free agent signings as I just couldn't play well with them at all), and the #22 pick in the draft Lonnie Bremer in various deals to eventually get the pick, so it was more than fair at the time. They went on a terrible streak to end the season though, losing 8 in a row to close out the season, so I ended up getting lucky with this pick. I also have the #17 and #24 picks (via the Bulls and Celtics, respectively). I'm working people out and I might trade up to a bit higher pick to get this good defensive Center in the draft. He doesn't have much offense but it would be great to get a tall, big, and defensive-minded center.

In free agency I plan to pursue a point-guard and bigs, but this year I will be completely certain they fit into my team's makeup before I sign them.

I will update again once the off-season is over, which should be later today or tomorrow.

The White House visit stuff is very cool and adds a lot IMO - I just hope I can win a championship to do it myself!

Last night I picked up a high-scoring win over the Pistons to go to 13-11, and I've just overtaken the Blazers for the 8th seed in the West.

Parker was very effective again, and I'm starting to become very pleased with my acquisition. All of my starters were on form, and even though the defense gave up 41(!) in the 2nd quarter, they were reasonably stingy in the other periods.

Well I'm really enjoying my Bulls association, I've made some pretty big deals. I'm I think 11-5 and 4th place in the east and trail Miami by 4 games at the top spot. I'm a handful of games away from the allstar break. Here is my roster:

                Rose / Watson
                Brandon Roy / Shannon Brown
Matt Barnes / Corey Brewer / Rasual Butler
                Boozer / Gibson
                Noah / Thomas

I'm loving the roster. Rose is a lock to make the all star team and I might be able to sneak Roy and Noah in as well.

It can't to my knowledge. I've gone through practices and the off-season training and have yet to encounter anything that benefits the consistency rating.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

In the end, I didn't make many changes at all to my Miami Heat in off-season number two. My roster now has 12 of the 15 players that are on the Miami Heat in real life, as I find myself to loyal to my Heat players. Juwan Howard and Zydrunas Illgauskas retired, or I probably would have tried to keep them too, and I had to let Jamal Magloire go to make room on my roster. Here are the changes I made this off-season.

                      Players Subtracted

                      Zydrunas Illgauskas (he retired)
Jamal Magloire (let him go in free agency)

                      Players Added

Wayne Coopeland (#10 pick in 2012 draft, acquired via 76ers in trade that netted them Marc Gasol)
Benjamin Roberts (#29 pick in 2011 draft, acquired in a trade from the Celtics that got them the #17 pick in the 2012 draft)
Terrico White (acquired in free agency, sent down to D-League as I don't have enough room on roster

                      Players Retained

                      Mike Bibby
                      Eddie House
                      Erick Dampier

My roster now looks like this.

                      Starting Five

                      PG: Mike Bibby
                      SG: Dwyane Wade
                      SF: LeBron James
                      PF: Chris Bosh
                      C: Benjamin Roberts

                      Bench Players

                      Mike Miller - Sixth Man
                      Udonis Haslem - Role Player
                      James Jones - Role Player
                      Gordon Hayward - Prospect
                      Mario Chalmers - Prospect
                      Wayne Coopeland - Prospect
                      Dexter Pittman - Prospect

                      Inactive List

                      Eddie House
                      Joel Anthony
                      Erick Dampier

Those roles and inactive list players are going to change during the season, as Eddie House might replace Mario Chalmers, James Jones, or Gordon Hayward, and Erick Dampier and Joel Anthony can replace any of the centers (Coopeland, Pittman, Roberts) if they don't perform well. The players that will stay in my rotation for sure are as follows.

                      Core Rotation

                      Mike Bibby
                      Dwyane Wade
                      LeBron James
                      Chris Bosh
                      Udonis Haslem
                      Mike Miller

                      Probable Rotation Mainstays

                      Mario Chalmers
                      Gordon Hayward
                      Benjamin Roberts

Entering the regular season now. I will update 10 games in to tell ya guys how the new rotation is working out.

Do you find Boozer sucks in this game?

I tried to utilize him but was only getting 9.5 ppg on 40% shooting after 10 games so I traded him for KG (I trade Booze + Deng for KG + Green) who is much more effective for me. I just couldn't score with Booze and Noah was doing the majority of the rebounding and opposing bigs would score at will on Boozer whereas KG shuts people down.

I find that I can score with Boozer just fine. I traded Noah away but re did the trade because Noah gets me double digit boards per game. I pound the ball to Boozer in the post. I've gotten good at the post moves. I have his release down and he can hit the open jumper. The only problem is his free throw sig. It's awefull. It's too damn slow and I always miss. But I can score with Boozer no problem. With Rose and Roy, he is a 3rd option for me and a good 3rd option to have.

Usually by that point I've figured out the computer and the advantage of being a human is enough to beat the CPU. Well, not in NBA 2K11.

I beat the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals in 5 games and it's not even worth discussing. The OKC Thunder beat the Memphis Grizzlies in 7 games and I entered the Finals feeling very confident...too confident. The Thunder had homecourt advantage, but I didn't figure that was too important. Little did I know that at some point during the season, they acquired Chauncey Billups, Andre Miller and Rudy Fernandez. Harden and Green are good and that the risk of sounding like a teenage girl: Oh. My. God. Kevin Durant is like freakin ridiculous!! Durant in the Finals is the closest thing to a "boss level" in a sports games I've ever seen. He was like Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson.

I got D R U B B E D in the first 2 games in OKC. Durant hit for 35+ in each and I lost by 10 pts in each game. I couldn't stop him. Play him tight, he blows by a defender. Play him auto, he shoots threes over the top of the defender. Play "Deny Ball" he runs off screens and ends up open. Double team and he kicks to an open Harden, Billups, Green or Fernandez for an open three.

It was unreal, but yet so real.

Long story short, we ended up in a Game 7 battle. Al Horford strained his hamstring, Anthony Morrow twisted his ankle and Durant hit for 39 pts, 9 rebs, 6 assists and was something like 5 for 9 from 3 pt range. Oh yeah, and the Thunder were perfect from the line. Anyway, we lost 105-99 after getting outscored 32-18 in the 3rd quarter and i'm heartbroken.

Watching the confetti fall and fat *** David Stern hand the trophy to the Thunder hurt. I didn't even watch the White House video. Now i have to figure out how to improve my team in the offseason.
This is my third year in my Association I made up my mind that if I don’t win the NBA finals, I was going to blow up the team. I’ve ran with the Hawks, made minimal trades (although a few) and tried to keep things realistic. This is long, bear with me. I’m super excited and have no one else to share in the excitement with (my wife gets a glazed over look when I try to talk to her about video games…I return the look when she talks about Reality TV)

PG: Devin Harris: acquired with a #1 Draft Pick in Year 1 in a trade for Jamal Crawford and Jordan Crawford. Contract has just expired (regular season averages: 12 pts, 5.7 asts)
                            <o></o>
SG: Joe Johnson (24 pts, 4.8 rbs, 4.7 asts; All-Star reserve, 2nd team all NBA)
                            <o></o>
SF: Quincy Miller: a rookie from Baylor taken with the 1st overall pick in the Draft that came in as an 83. I had no plans on drafting a SF, but I worked him out because he was regarded as a top 5 pick and my scouts raved about him. I did some workouts with him and had to have him (10 pts, 6 reb; 2nd Team All-Rookie).
                            <o></o>
PF: Al Horford (14.5 pts, 10.1 rebs; another All-Star snub thanks to punk @ss Brook Lopez)
                            <o></o>
C: Marc Gasol: acquired in a draft day trade for Zaza Puchilla, C.J. Leslie (a rookie taken with the Nets pick from above), and Anthony Morrow (who came with Devin Harris) (10.1pts, 9.1 asts. Close to 2 blocks per game, solid interior D, which I needed)
                            <o></o>
Where is Josh Smith, you ask? He broke his foot on the second to last game of the regular season. He had a great season (even though the numbers don’t give the full story) (16.9 pts, 9.9 rbs, 4.1 asts, 2.3 blks, 2.1 steals; All-Star starter, 1st team All-Defense, 2nd in DPOY voting (Dwight Howard); 2nd in MVP voting (Lebron); 1st team All NBA and in my imaginary world: slam dunk champion). I almost cried when he hit the ground late in the season and found out he’d be out 6-8 weeks and might miss all of the playoffs. I thought about resetting the game, but decided it added a little cruel realism.

                            <o></o>

Jason Terry (SG): signed to 1-year deal to bring offense/shooting off the bench (~9 pts)
Jeff Teague (PG): possibly my PG of the future, contract expires and he’s a restricted FA (7.7 pts, but only 1.7 asts – he may not be ready to play PG)
                            <o></o>
Gilbert Brown (SG): 2nd year player originally taken in the second round. Can’t do too much, but he has 99 3pt shooting (averages 51% from downtown). A few of those 3s were big, he kinda filled the role of Anthony Morrow but he doesn’t play much at all. Spent about half the year in the D League
                            <o></o>
Jeff Taylor (SF): 2nd year player from rated around a 75. Athletic, can’t shoot, dribbles about average, but played good D filling in for the injured J. Smith.
                            <o></o>
Tyler Zeller (PF/C): Rookie from UNC taken with the next to last pick in the 1st round of the draft. I wasn’t expecting anything, but he came in as a 73 and was my first post player off the bench. Pleasant surprise. Decent post moves, good defender.
                            <o></o>
Mike Bibby (PG): Signed him to a 1-yr deal and he bitched about lack of playing time. Tried to trade him, but nobody wanted him. He contributed nothing, but at least he got a ring. He’s played his last game in a Hawks uniform.
                            <o></o>
Josh Powell (PF): Contributed little and bitched about playing time. Tried to package him and Bibby in a trade and got back pu pu platter + 2nd round picks.
                            <o></o>
Drew Cook (C): 7’5’ player that was in the D league. Good for rebounds, blocked shots, nothing else. Was important at times defending an inside presence.
                            <o></o>
                            Playoffs<o></o>
                            <o></o>

1st Round: 4-2 win over the Bobcats. Mike Bibby gets injured in mop-up duty and is out 2-4 weeks. At least I don’t have to deal with his bitching anymore<o></o>
                            <o></o>
2nd Round: 4-1 win over the Miami Heat. I built my team to beat them and I always have their number. Jason Terry gets injured (1-2 weeks) but can play.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Eastern Conf. Finals: 4-2 win over the Chicago Bulls. They give my problems. At least Luol Deng does. In the games they won he shot well. In the games we won, he shot poorly. I wish I could take credit for it, but it seemed almost lucky. <o></o>
                            <o></o>
Western Conf. Finals: The Clippers beat the Thunder 4-2 (I was looking forward to a rematch against OKC since they beat me in the Finals 4-2 last season). I split the regular season against the Clippers.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
                            NBA Finals<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Having split the season with the Clippers I knew they could beat me. I didn’t know how difficult they would be though. For the 2nd straight season the Western Conf. has homecourt advantage, which I don’t understand since I have the best record in the NBA (nothing exceptional it’s like 59-23.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Game 1: Close game the entire way and well played by both teams. I was down 98-96 with 4.1 seconds to go, inbounded the pass from half-court to Joe Johnson, Clips sent a double team at him. JJ avoids the double team, attacks the basket, goes up for an almost uncontested layup and….Chris f#(#*ing Kaman blocks the shot. End of game. I’m in disbelief.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Game 2: Unable to shake the painful defeat from the previous game, we come out flat, never recover and lose 112-86. Joe Johnson scores 19 points on .35% shooting and I’m thinking about how I should have never turned down the trade when Carmelo Anthony was offered for Joe Johnson and Jeff Teague. I’m also thinking about all the ways I can get rid of him. Afterwards, I check the Injury Report and see that Josh Smith is still out, but day-to-day. Please come back J-Smoove. We need you.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Game 3: Still no J-Smoove. Now get this!! The 1st quarter ends in a 26-26 tie. I’m down 4 at the half…no biggie, but at the end of the 3rd quarter, I’m down 16 points. Nothing is working. Shots aren’t falling. Joe Johnson is bumming it up again and after scoring 13 in the 1st quarter, he now has 15 for the game. Only bright spot is Marc Gasol who has been beasting in the paint. <o></o>
                            <o></o>
With about 7 minutes to go in the game, Coach Drew puts in a lineup of Devin Harris, Jeff Teague, Jason Terry, Jeff Taylor and Quincy Miller. Small ball at it’s finest…I’m too defeated to care enough to reset the rotation since I’m still down 15 points). These guys, with nothing to lose play their hearts out. Defending the passing lanes, hitting three point shots and suddenly, we’re back in the game. <o></o>
                            <o></o>
With under 20 secs left in regulation, I’m down 4 (96-92) and JJ is put back in the lineup for Devin Harris (who can’t hit anything outside the arc).<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Intentional foul on Eric Gordon. He hits two and the score is now 98-92. Timeout Hawks. Play call works to perfection and Joe Johnson hits a three! I’m genuinely shocked. Score is now 98-95. Intentional foul on Blake Griffin. He hits the first, misses the second. Score is 99-95. Timeout Hawks. Inbounds play works perfectly and with 4 secs left Teague hits a three from the corner!!!!! 99-98 with one last chance.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Blake Griffin inbounds the pass, trying to get it to Eric Gordon…Joe Johnson steals the inbounds pass under the goal!!! goes up for the layup!!!! and my $120 million “superstar” clangs the ball on the underside of the rim …Griffin rebounds, avoids the foul…end of game. This Joe Johnson character is so off my team in the off-season…I’ll trade him for a pack of pretzels and some game worn socks. The series is currently 3-0 Clippers headed to Atlanta. No team has comeback from 3-0 to win a playoff series and I know I won’t be the next.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Game 4: Not exciting, but we decide to play with a little heart at home and win by 6.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Game 5: What’s that!!! Announced in the starting line-up, making a Willis Reed return is Josh Smith!!!! The highlight factory goes crazy because he was still listed as Day-to-Day, but he’s ready to go! If you look to the box scores, you don’t really see the impact, but I swear my team had more fire to them. JSmoove finishes with 15 pts, 14 rebs, 6 assists, 5 blocks, 4 steals, and of course a couple of powerful dunks. Final score: 112-79 Hawks. Are we back?!?!<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Game 6: More of the same from JSmoove. The Clippers have no answer. He hits for 19 pts, 12 rebs, 5 assits, 3blocks, 2 steals and the team is still energized. Final score: 107-91 Hawks and one game away from making history.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Game 7: Back to Staples Center where I haven’t won all year (including a regular season game against the Lakers). I’m nervous. Like really, nervous. Game starts off slow for both teams and the Hawks up 44-38 at the end of the half. Chris Kaman has been killing me (just like he has all series). Joe Johnson has 13 pts. JSmoove only has 5 points, but already has 4 blocks. Fast forward to the second half, Clips come out on fire and at the end of the 3rd, the score is tied at 67. Now, I’ve already decided that whatever happens, if the game comes down to a last second shot, Joe Johnson WILL NOT touch the ball. I wish it was that exciting, but we actually got on a little run and win the game 98-85. <o></o>
                            <o></o>
We are the champions…Joe Johnson is given the most undeserved Playoff MVP of all time (he did average 23 pts but it should have been Gasol) and I’m purely excited. <o></o>
                            <o></o>
                            Offseason Questions<o></o>
                            <o></o>
My mind is already on the off-season, because Josh Smith’s contract is up. How do I not resign him after what he did for the team? However his rating is 90 and I know that I can’t really afford him. <o></o>
                            <o></o>
Devin Harris will likely have to leave unless he takes a severe pay cut. Jeff Teague will probably get resigned unless he asks for too much. Joe Johnson is likely safe for what he means during the regular season. Mike Bibby is as good as gone, Jason Terry probably gone also. It’s time to cut salaries…or maybe start another association with post-trade deadline rosters. I’m thinking of playing with the NJ Nets, Golden State Warriors or Washington Wizards.<o></o>
                            <o></o>
Thanks for your patience and even if you don’t read all of this…it felt good getting it out. Some responses would be great though.

If josh smith opts to resign with you, u should be able to go below the cap (as long as it doesn't hit the hard cap) because of ur bird rights

what we were referring to was the consistency rating in each player. For example, you draft a guy who as A potential but 25 consistency rating. Has anyone found a way to increase it or are they forever doomed to it? So far from my experience, I haven't been able to find anything that raises consistency either.
