    Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

    2nd year Bulls.

    I wanted a Defensive Philosophy and also a lot of depth, but I might of bit off more than I can chew.

    Rose
    Pietrus
    Deng
    Boozer
    Noah

    Stephenson
    AK-47
    Taj Gibson
    Gortat
    Korver
    Alston
    Moody (rookie pf 23rd pick 74 rating/trade bait)
    Scalabrine

    I got so much depth, especially at forward, I wanted to surround Rose and Noah with as much talent as possible.

    The first year I avg, 29.8ppg with Rose, I'm down to 21.3ppg this year, I was offered Bosh for Boozer & Moody still undecided.

    Trade Scenario:
    Bulls trade:
    Pietrus
    Deng
    Taj Gibson
    Gortat
    Moody
    (2) 1st round picks

    To MIA for

    LeBron James
    Big Z
    Haslem

    I may kill what i have going on but LBJ is LBJ.

    Thoughts?

      I think you made the right decision...Where are you getting that Rambis doesn't like Love? Was it from your association? Because I saw an "NBA Action" piece on the T-Wolves on NBATV and Rambis gave Love nothing but praise and seemed to really like his young budding star.

      OK, so I got my expiring contract, and its not my fault that they undervalued their pick and I was diligent enough to ask for it.

      Now, my personal feeling being a Detroit fan is the only player we have left from our championship core with true value is Tayshaun Prince, so he was always going to be the one I traded. His contract is expiring, he is not likely to resign in Detroit when we are mired in rebuilding. I put him and BOTH of Denver's selections that they traded me into the trade finder, and wound up with the following deal, again with Minnesota:

      Detroit Sends:

      Tayshaun Prince (SF) and Denver's 1st round selections in 2011 and 2012, along with Detroit's 1st round selection in 2012 to Minnesota for Wesley Johnson (SF) and Wayne Ellington (SG).
      I got nothing wrong w/ the Denver deal and think that the Nuggs trading their picks is legit since they won't be in the lotto anytime soon. I think w/ Minny you should've gone after Brewer, Telfair, and/or Webster though...don't like the idea of fleecing young talent from a young/rebuilding team, but I guess given they're getting a good player like Prince they have to sacrifice something.

          Just got major pissed on my Bucks chise. 88-88 with 2:15 left @Mavs and I bring ball up court with Jennings, go to call a post play for Bogut and just as I go to pick A, the play box goes off and I turn the ball over, this leads to me getting annoyed about what happened and losing the game 95-88.

            Hey guys, thinking of starting a 76's Franchise and wondering what you guys do as far as playing your games? Do you sim until playoffs, knock it down to a 59 game season, or just sim a few, play a few? Or do any of you play all of your games?

            Thanks for the answers

              I usually play the first 10 or so games to see what I'm working with and find what rotation I'll be going with. After I get a good understanding of my team I usually sim the games that don't interest me. However, if my team is struggling I'll play against the weaker teams in hope of turning it around. Hope this helps.

                A *lot* of it was from fantasy basketball. He was jerking Love's minutes around big time early in the year (it has evened out more now, even Rambis isn't that big of a donkey) - but there was a couple different time Love's fantasy notes indicated that he and Rambis were not a match made in heaven, and his minutes were suffering because of it. Then he put up like 3 20-20s in a row and I don't even think Mike Brown could have benched him.

                I shoot a fair percentage on PRO-SIM with my gangstas. In the association I reset, I was averaging 42% and that was with simmed games. In played games I went anywhere from 37-53% and I'm loving that without slider changes. If anything, if I see the same thing in this association - I'll be upping each of the CPU offensive sliders 1 click, and that would be it. Otherwise, I love the flow of the game on PRO-SIM, and feel its the best representation of the NBA I've ever played.

                Totally agree with you on the Denver deal. Actually as bad as J.R. Smith has been in real life, having Gordon in a 6th man role with Afflalo or vice versa is probably their best bet and with Charlie V. to replace Kenyon, they are probably closer to the West crown than they were, and definitely NOT in the lottery with that squad. I normally agree with you on trying not to "fleece" young talent, but three first round picks, and a 77 overall who won't decline for at least a few years AND has an expiring contract is a fair deal, and moreso than the deal I made for Love.

                At the same time, I get a player I am happy playing with. I grabbed Love in the last association because I knew I would enjoy playing with him, and its the same with Wesley. Not having the big options in Love and Iggy/Granger also will force me to work to develop Wes, Monroe, and Stuck. And, I'll be BAD, which will force me to use the draft and free agency to improve.

                Like you, I'm just concerned with competitive balance. Minnesota gets three first rounders to build with for one first rounder, and a better player RIGHT NOW to help their young squad compete, and Tayshaun can be a leader on the floor, both offensively and defensively. So there, I can say to myself "They could make that deal, and competitive balance is not affected." Obviously, the same thing with the Martin deal, Denver takes on salary for a few years, but they will be more apt to contend NOW, which is what they would be trying to do in real life to both compete, and get some quality players in to try to convince Melo to stay.

                So, thank you JBH - I think you actually convinced me to have a fairer, more realistic association, even though I hadn't done anything to "cheat" the CPU in the first association, competitive balance was affected, and I would have gotten too good too fast. Now, I can still have fun with the game and love my squad, but be more fair to the other teams in the process.

                Most importantly, it makes me want to play, and discuss my association. Now, maybe when I update - folks like you will read and say "Wow, he's having fun and these are fun updates!"

                Unfortunately, I got a migraine last night, so I saved at the half of the opener with NJ, but I was up 10 when I quit. Wes isn't having a great start, but did bury his first shot (a 3 pointer) in the league.

                    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                    Season1 [as] Mavs (All-30 Teams) Association:
                    Had one of my worst games w/ the Mavs...The Hawks came to town, having gotten their record back to .500, and took advantage of my injured squad. Gave Beaubois the night off since he was DTD nursing a sprained ankle, but could've really used his ferocious 3pt shooting. It was a tight game through 3 qtrs, but ATL really blew it up in the 4th and the Mavs hit an offensive snag and lost 101-86...was down by 20, but managed to get a few late stops and lose by a more "respectable" 15.
                    Team Stats:
                    FG%: ATL 48%; DAL 37%.
                    FTs: ATL 17/24; DAL 13/15.
                    3's: ATL 6/14; DAL 7/26.
                    TO's: ATL 12; DAL 10.
                    REBs: ATL 55; DAL 34.
                    ORebs: ATL 5; DAL 0.
                    Caron Butler was perhaps the only effective offensive option. Dirk struggled shooting 7-21, Terry went 5-15 including 1-9 from 3pt range, and Marion didn't record a point in 28 minutes of floor time. Butler managed 24 pts on 10-17 shooting, also going 2/2 from 3, but once he caught fire ATL started doubling him and no one else on the Mavs could get it going.
                    Joe Johnson really took over in the 4th qtr, but he was a menace all game finishing w/ 34 pts on 12-18 shooting, including three 3's, and 8 trips to the FT line connecting on 7 FTs; he also added 6 boards, and 4 assists. Josh Smith played 34 minutes and finished w/ a dub-dub on 20/11/1ast/2stls/2blks.
                    Next game - to finish out January - was against the visiting Wizards. They had lost 10 straight, and were a below .500 team so I opted to SIM this game. The result of which was an 88-73 Mavericks win. Judging by boxscores, Gilbert Arenas shot his team out of it. Producing only 14 pts on 4-16 shooting. Dirk lead all scorers w/ 19 on 7-14 shooting, adding 7 boards. JET had another sub-par shooting night going 5-13, and finishing w/ 15 pts and 3 stls, and Caron added 14 to roundout the leading scorers on the Mavs. Rookie John Wall appeared to have a good overall game, but left a little to be desired in his shooting going 7-18 while scoring 17pts and finishing w/ 5 boards, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks in 38 minutes of action.
                    Very shortly, will be posting my end-of-January association update. Complete w/ Div Standings, top5 league leaders in pts, rebs, asts, etc., awards races, trades, and players out w/ injuries.
                      I play 50 of 82. I do it a certain way though and I really like it, have done it this way for years now.
                      You play 15 games against the opposing conference. The first year I do 8 home games and 7 away games against the West with my Pistons.
                      You play all your divisional games, that's 16 more for 31.
                      Then you play everyone else in your conference once at home, and once away - except for one team. In true NBA schedules, 4 of your conference, but non-divisional opponents you play only 3 times a year, instead of the normal 2 at home and 2 away. So, look up your team and which teams you only play 3 times, and pick one of these teams and only play them ONCE, and in the first season play them at their place.
                      This gives you 25 played home games, and 25 played away games. You play every team in your conference twice except for the one team, you play all games with your divisional rivals, and you see every team from the West once.
                      To me, that's the best way to get in multiple seasons while still feeling you're the main thrust of your association!
                        Go to manage roster, go to the player and hit the action button. If they are eligible to be sent to the D-League the option will appear highlighted at the bottom under edit player and all the other goodies.
                          1-1 in my Utah Jazz association.
                          I traded Paul Milsap and Mehmet Okur for Tim Duncan in hopes of getting a championship in the next year or two (Duncan's contract). I'm hoping that Jefferson/Duncan and pull a Duncan/Robinson.
                          Starters:
                          PG - Deron Williams
                          SG - Raja Bell
                          SF - Andrei Kirilenko
                          PF - Tim Duncan
                          C - Al Jefferson
                          I didn't make any other trades after that so I could look at my bench and assess any necessary needs later in the season.
                          Game 1 - I played in Denver and Melo WENT OFF for 50 points. I couldn't do anything against the guy. He abused Bell and Kirilenko over and over. When Melo moved to SG - he posted Bell up over and over and even double teams didn't work. I couldn't do a damn thing. Williams dropped 40 and Duncan had 17 points and 11 boards. I ended up losing 118-113.
                          Game 2 - Home opener against the Suns and Deron Williams is ICE COLD to start the game. SIDENOTE: I switched up the Jazz playbook a little and run a play called "21 side" for Williams where he runs through a couple screens and sets up on the wing for an easy J. With Williams cold (and 4 turnovers in the first period), I pulled him early for Earl Watson and watched Duncan abuse Grant Hill all night. Duncan ended with 37 points and 15 boards. Williams had 18 points and 12 assists and Jazz won their home opener 105-85.
                          so far, so good. The Jazz is a fun team to play with, especially since I pulled the 1-2 punch of Jefferson and Duncan on the low block.
                            My experience on PRO-SIM was far too many missed shots. I increased the offense sliders for me and the CPU and it opened up a better game. There's still times where I'm really off, but not at the unbelieveable rate it would occur for default Pro-Sim.
                            I got nothing wrong w/ the Denver deal and think that the Nuggs trading their picks is legit since they won't be in the lotto anytime soon. I think w/ Minny you should've gone after Brewer, Telfair, and/or Webster though...don't like the idea of fleecing young talent from a young/rebuilding team, but I guess given they're getting a good player like Prince they have to sacrifice something.
                            That Denver trade is far from legit IMO. Why would Denver trade you an expiring contract and their whole upcoming draft for horrible contracts? And with all indications that Melo is leaving, Denver will be a lotto team. Maybe not next year but def. the year after. The guy already admitted the Joe D. should be fired for signing those two to those contracts. If he wants it to be somewhat realistic, he should send his 1st rounders to Denver w/ no picks in return. I still don't believe Denver would do it in real life b/c those contracts are that bad. But each its own. If he is having fun that's all that matters.
                              Um, I get a 75 year old PF who is 32 and can only decline. I gave up a 78 SG with a B potential (from a B/A scout) and a 71 PF who is 25 and C+. Do they make the trade in real life? No. But in GAME ASSETS, it's a great deal for them. Joe should be fired because he could have saved the money for a year when there was quality free agents. Gordon isn't that horrible, he was just horrible for US. We had our guard spots and our SF filled (not that Gordon could play point or the 3 anyways) - that's a horrible signing.
                              Denver, on the other hand - desperately needs a scoring 2 guard to offset Melo. They get a decent young PF with decent potential to boot. By their in-game stats, the trades and the contracts are not horrible because THIS IS A VIDEO GAME.
                              If anything, it shows Melo that they are trying to bring in players to help him win. Ben Gordon *CAN* score. Villaneuva can play on the game, too.
                              I want them gone because living in Detroit, I know a little bit about Detroit basketball, and I hate them. Just because I hate them and want our beloved GM fired because I'm a homer doesn't mean that they don't retain their value IN THE GAME.
                              EDIT: From memory, Charlie V is like a 3 yr./22m remaining, Gordon 3 year/28m remaining like 16m a year for 2 players.
                                BTW - unless you play with roles or chemistry off, you're going to see the same CPU teams do the same type of trades with the other CPU teams, so why cripple yourself to "maintain the sanctity of the video game league." The only players that don't get traded in this videogame are STARS. I can't go to Rajon Rondo and click trade finder and even GET a deal with the Pistons. No Westbrook's, no Durant's, about the best players you can get with the default Pistons without cheating is like Al Horford, Al Jefferson, David Lee, Love, Beasley, Eric Gordon. You can't get Blake (although you could if you traded up to one of the aforementioned guys, more than likely.)
                                The game does a pretty good job of policing itself. I mean really, we're talking about Kevin Love when I've seen others rebuild around Griffin and Wall using Arenas...
