Re: Has or will Operation Sports "ruin" NBA2K11?

I was going to rip you in half, when I read the title of your post, and the beginning of your rant. OS is pretty much an awesome site that does a lot of... well, let's call it beta testing for 2K. The My Player freezing issues, the one-star trade value glitch, the no trades after year one glitch, the home court advantage glitch, just to name a few are things that need to be patched, so I'm glad there is a collective here that not only brings these things to the developers attention, but also tries to find stop gap solutions for these problems while we wait with bated breath hoping that a developer will tell us that the glitch most affecting our favorite modes will be fixed. For all these reasons, OS definitely helps enhance 2K.

So, I give OS their props, but that's where it stops.

As far as people complaining about difficulty, I totally agree with you. I play my player on Pro Default and Association on Sim All-Star and have no problem with it. I haven't really played association in awhile (I'm sucked into My Player), but it played beautifully before. It was hard as hell, but I was losing to teams I was supposed to, and BOTH sides were putting up realistic stats (no more 73% shooting for a team). If it's as bad as I think it might be, I'm scared to start my REAL association. I think someone on here wrote an article on how game play has been improved via a new patch. I never read it, because to me, it was never broken.

Too many turnovers- stop making bad passes!

Too many missed FG's- stop take bad shots and take the time to learn release points!

Controls Unresponsive- Take the time to practice them (for me, the dribble course in My Player did wonders).

    ugh....

          I agree 100%

I thought this was the illest site ever at first... with Da Czar doin the 10 teams in 10 days... and all the other tutorials n such... but now that I been browsin a while I see alot of trends... too much isnt enough for the people on OS... and I think the real issue is that most of the sim nation are so wrapped up in being realistic they forget to learn how to play the game for what it is... A GAME... you have to master the timing of things, but instead sliders get changed when issues occur... you're supposed to play help defense but when you dont and you get dunked on you complain... then when you do master somethin like the iso controls you get mad when you can get to the rim... THATS WHY YOU PRACTICED IT TO BE ABLE TO SCORE... its like challenge is frowned upon/ traded in for deception of realism...

I still love the site and what it stands for... I just dont understand all the complaining... video games are turning into hip hop... you know, where nobody is ever happy with anything new, but they praise the old (ex. CH2k8, NFL2k5 compared to new Jay Z vs old Jay Z, or new Eminem vs old Eminem)...

The only thing I worry about is extremes. Usually theres a wave of "this game has too many problems" complaints. The you have the "shut and practice, everything is fine" wave. What gets lost is the fact the there are legitamate problems and gamers do actually need to put work in before claiming all is lost. As for the "its just av ideo game" line of though, it hold no weight. Games aren't given away for free. Devs and publishers aren't benevolent benefactors who do what they do out of the goodness of their hearts. Videogames are multi-billion dollar industry. We have a right to makes demands. This ain't government cheese.

WOW what an excellent RANT! You hit the nail on the head my friend.

                  Powerful, powerful, powerful.

It's funny that you've been reading these forums for years but just recently decided to contribute your $.02...sounds like you had a lot pent up inside

But I couldn't agree more. For a game to be as excellent and FUN as 2k11 is, I have never come across more whining and complaining in my life. It's not just these forums either...2k's own forums are A LOT WORSE.

It's like dating a supermodel and b*tching about the fact that her hair isn't quite as blonde as you'd like, and that if she doesn't fix it, the woman is broken and you would want nothing to do with her til she adjusts. RIDICULOUS.

Thank you for pointing this out...I was waiting for someone to stand up and speak the truth. While I'm all for honest feedback and letting 2k know some adjustments we'd like to see, and how that communication is vital to the game's growth, whining about every aspect of the game because you're struggling to adapt or too spoiled to appreciate the beauty of it is just irritating.

My hat's off to you, bruh.
You shouldn't worry about what others think of you, because if you knew how little they did, you would be insulted.

I sit here illegally posting on this site at my place of employment honestly shocked at the response this post is receiving. Thanks for the verification b/c I really felt my opinion would be in the minority. I will admit that I had my fists up ready to fight the first STFU post I saw! LOL!

Streets - I do love the site and know all of the various and many contributions that it has made to patches and game releases. I completely agree that a sizable portion of what we contribute is reflected in the games and both companies are taking notice (some more than others :wink.

But we need to wield our new found power carefully and selectively. Also, I really hope that the companies (as I'm sure they already do) carefully weigh and address our concerns. and though I'm not going to say that we DIRECTLY affected the latest update - the PERCEPTION to me is that we did and that's alarming especially since it's soooo soon after release, which as we know with 2K is atypical.

So I really just want to speak my peace and hopefully curb at least SOME of the talk on this site b/c I won't lie - just simply READING this site make me sometimes forget WHY I may love a particular game. And can maybe remind some people of the power of the "spoken" word.

Oh, and I thank you guys and Streets for reading it even with the "engaging" title and subtle typos. I'm writing loan contracts while posting on this site.

                      Talk about dedication to gaming!

Great post OP, 2k has come out with its best games to date and all we have are complaint thread, this is broken thread and this must be fixed threads I will agree with some of the complaints but I am worried that we will have a repeat of 2k8 if this continues, for those that don't remember people complained that 2k8 was to difficult and 2k made a dump down patch and ruined the game, there are to many people that claim to be sim that have no idea what that means and 2k11 exposed them for what they were arcade players that got away with a flawed game, 2k please be smart when you patch the game fix the things that are really broken and don't cater to those that don't want to play are the proper difficulty level.

I totally agree dipset, great post. I'll admit when I first picked up the game and found difficulty, I immediately came on here to OS and read all the comments about the game being too sim, passing too difficult, etc. At first, I was upset that I wasn't dominating with the sixers, that on eight minute quarters I was scoring over 100, Jrue Holiday can't make a no look across the court pass to andre Iguodala, that I actually have to run plays maybe to score. But then I realized, I'd been conditioned by previous 2k versions to do exactly that. So I decided to give playing basketball a chance, and the results although not immediate, have been forthcoming and I've learned that playing sound basketball is key.
In this game, it's cleary evident that good teams will dominate and the bad teams will stink. In my Jazz franchise, to beat the Lakers and Heat, you literally need to focus on every possession. In order to contain Lebron James, that's right I didn't say stop because just like IRL, he can't be stopped, you need to man up and play to his tendencies.

With the roster update, it would be unfortunate if it came out that 2k patched gameplay. I believe 2k should be forthcoming before making significant gameplay changes as they were before release about gameplay, presentation improvements, etc. I also agree that sports games have been marketed to the masses in the past, and that means hardcore sports fans are losing out. Finally, I was happy to see 2k step up the plate and make a game that was truly sim and focused on the hardcore gamer. Sadly, it looks though that the casual gamer has had his majority voice heard, and the game has been reverted back to a casual pickup game, where real basketball has no place.

Great post by the OP but I wanted to quote this because this where we are at now. We know companies will put out patches now for things that we deem broken so we complain about it and hope they will patch it. We need to remember what it is was like years ago when he didn't have patches and we played games just for fun. I think a lot of us don't do that anymore and we just look for the faults etc. instead of just playing and having fun.
