First and foremeost, let me start by saying that I absolutely love this site. I love NBA 2K11. I also love my wife. But just b/c you love something doesn't mean that it/they can't have negatives impacts on your life in certain instances.

I pose the question b/c I've been an avid reader at this website for a few years yet rarely post. I've gotten familiar enough with your screen names and posts that I have formed opinions on some of you (which is odd but so 21st century).

So I gotta say that I feel that certain things have gotten so outta control that it's beyond ridiculous. Games come out on schedule and within 72 hours, people are saying its broken, it's horrible, its the greatest game ever created, I don't like this or that. 3 days. How many games can you have possibly played in 72 hours to form a true opinion on a game? Would you marry someone you knew for 3 days? Would you change cities b/c you visited for 3 days? Hopefully not. Yet, we've got patch lists/requests/DEMANDS up within 72 hours. And I get that and that's cool. The internet allows everyone to speak and rightfully so - even though ALL shouldn't speak.

    And herein lies the problem.

It's one thing when you have a situation like a NBA Elite 11 where the issues are so glaring and are a core context of the game that you cannot operate as one should normally or its such a departure from the norm that it's startling. But what happens on here is a lot of whining and complaining and ridiculous requests from everything from sock colors to THE SHADE OF PURPLE ON A JERSEY.

So why do I mention this?

B/C from what I can tell of this last roster update - 2K is listening.

    And that scares me.

The biggest discovery that was made about NBA2K11 was that 3 specific game styles would be offered. We all know what they are. People were finally given options on how they wanted the game to play. If I want a closer to reality simulation style game, I could finally do that. And it was PERFECT. Real shooting percentages. More foul calls. Real scores. FINALLY!!!!!!!! A game that RESEMBLED (not cloned - it's a videogame, people) what COULD HAPPEN in a real life NBA setting.

Gameplay was changed across the board. Improvements made. The closest we've ever come to complete control of your player. True defensive rotations. Plays that got you shots.

    But guess what happened....

Instead of taking, what - a week - to adjust to the game, learn the controls and adapt to the new surroundings, we make boisterous claims about it being to difficult, too much work and practically admitting that our egos are too large to simply just tailor the game to what we want.

In my opinion, 2K should've stood their ground and forced the people - us - to play the game THE WAY THEY INTENDED IT for 30 days. The season doesn't even start until the end of the month. It's not like we wouldn't have waited - we've done that before. The game scored a 9.5 as is so why cave to the whims of a few that can solve their issues through sliders and the like? Why not just add a lobby for each difficulty? No, instead they make change to the core gameplay via an official roster update so that way they appease the current screamers and awaken new ones. Fantastic - so like the elephants v the donkeys.

My brother just HAS to put the game on HOF difficulty. When I ask him why, he says he needs the challenge. Yet generally after 2 weeks of getting his head cracked or having to resort to parlor tricks to compete, he tweaks the sliders. So I always ask him this question - at what point are you tweaking the sliders to where it's not even HOF anymore? Why not just play it on Superstar?

This is the first year where he headed my advice and it's as if he got a new disc. Superstar Simulation is how WE play. That's OUR NBA experience.

But thanks to "our communities", now MY EXPERIENCE has been tainted from the original vision 2K gave us b/c others wouldn't simply do what should always be done - understand the game for what it is and set it up to the way YOU LIKE TO PLAY.

What's the point of having a simulation setting if now all that 2K is going to do is cater to the changing winds of the 2000 different opinions they're trying to satisfy on their and this website?

Sure I could just use the rosters stock or the previous update. But what about deals and trades and added players? So now I have to suffer on so many fronts b/c Joe Schmoo REFUSES to put the game on Pro/Default? That's preposterous.

Gaming has gotten so supersoft its disgusting. This is why Madden will never be the too in-depth simulation that we "claim" we want. B/C the minute you make a simulation based on the actual tendencies of the sport, you get threads like - Is NBA2K11 TOO SIM?

    WOW.

    Wow.

The bottom line is that no one wants to lose. Plain and simple. Everyone wants to feel like they can hang. Well this year 2K makes a game that shows you that you CAN'T HANG and instead of accepting the challenge, we push the game back to its former self.

But why am I surprised b/c this seems to be the New America.

Can't wait to see how much of 2K11 is made to become 2K10.

    End of demo.
Great post! Although game has some things that need fixed it is probably by far the best out of the box game to date including MLB the show. My 1 gripe was hard foul/intentional foul glitch but thankfully there has been a work around for this. I would like to see some foul tweaks to see more none shooting fouls but other than that I cant really find anything that is not almost perfect resemblence of basketball. Sure i saw a lot of trades when i first started a association that would not happen but nothing that cant be fixed with controling all teams. Being able to control all teams is the best invention in video games because you can stop the nonsense that does happen.

Re: Has or will Operation Sports "ruin" NBA2K11?

I don't get it. I've read a ton of posts in this forum and the majority are saying this is the best BB game ever - and possibly the best sports game ever. The two biggest gripes (which people just want tweaked) are lack of fast breaks and collision issues such as excessive forcefields around defenders. IMO tweaking these issues make sense, and hopefully they can further adjust to find a happy medium.

With huge sales and glowing reviews it just doesn't make sense 2K would make large scale changes on a whim. At this point we don't even know what (if any) changes have really been made do we? It's a roster update, not a patch and doesn't coding changes need to be approved by Microsoft & Sony? In addition, development is very complex and I think they'd need more than a week to find out what customers want changed, have the devs re-program the code, senior programmers & corporate brass approve it and finally send it out to us.

Re: Has or will Operation Sports "ruin" NBA2K11?

          I agree with OP......amen..........

I really hope 2k is filtering out what's relevant and what's BS. because alot of us have been waiting for this type of gameplay for years and it would be a shame for the game to get turned into a arcade game.

We should all understand that we are playing a NBA basketball simulation and some of us need to understand that the way they play in real life and the way NBA players play in real life is way different situation...ask yourself have you ever went up against a NBA player? (I have and it wasn't pretty..lol) heck even college players are beasts..lol

the developers gave us a practice area to do just that practice!!! even us vets don't have every aspect of gameplay down ....I think things like rim physics or sliding or ball warping for example are legit grips and things of that nature, but when people are complaining because they can't get the upper hand on the competion on the court...come one mannnnn...ngh!!

get some skills...learn how the computer is beating you....for instance who on the other team is scoring alot on you? make an adjustment....are you getting beat on the boards? make an adjustment.....are your passes getting intercepted alot?,...make an adjustment....basketball is all about making adjustments.....you are not able to make shot?....how quick are you releasing the button, who is guarding you? how much momentum are you shooting with, can your player shoot....really you should be asking yourselves questions like these before you run to this site to say something is broke.....(wow theres a thought) now if you call for a double team and the players don't doubleteam...that's a issue.... God help this site...... just the information the Czar has been putting out alone should be enough to help most of you guys by itself...!

[QUOTE=Humble_Thyself;2041741868]WOW what an excellent RANT! You hit the nail on the head my friend.

              Powerful, powerful, powerful.

It's funny that you've been reading these forums for years but just recently decided to contribute your $.02...sounds like you had a lot pent up inside.......]

              LMAO!!!!

              Yes, VERY frustrated!

I've seen games get absolutely ripped to shreds on here (some very much deservedly so) but a couple were without merit. It was simply b/c the game may be a departure from the norms that we've become accustomed to.

The reason I spoke up in THIS situation is that this is 2K's DEATHBLOW title. They went all in on this one. They successfully catered to EVERYONE - whether you want to deal with that or not. I not only commend their efforts, I PRAY that this sets the standard for annual titles in ANY genre. Now I've tempered my expectations for next year to a lower setting b/c I honestly do not know what they can do next year. It won't surprise me if they wow me next year b/c this brand is the only one to do that every time (regardless of how you feel about the complete end product, at least understand that they try to improve EVERY YEAR. I've not seen them take a year "off" IMHO).

What I do NOT want is:

              1) For this positive momentum to go unacknowledged by us to the developers

              2) For the game to become a shadow of it's former self via patches and the like (this is excluding necessary patch fixes to modes and issues outside gameplay - except that spin dunk - WTF is that about )\

              3) For our voice to become dead air to the very people we need most - the developers

Agreed - a lot of the posts state the game is the best they've ever played BUT........

And there is nothing wrong with that but its another thing all together to say that in X game I shot 4-20 with Kobe so the game is flawed or that EVERY NIGHT I MUST HAVE 50 fastbreak points with GS AND win the game. Yet these same people want a challenge. You can't have it both ways.

If you look into the heart of the posts that are on here - it's a lot of complaining about things they WANT to do 2K to solve for them when they can solve them themselves - as you stated with sliders.

The game has and has always been changed by the roster updates. I'm not saying the game was "patched" but its evident that the game has been manipulated to play differently - hence the new blog on the home page reflecting the same opinions.

All my rant was for was to say that this is all these "opinions" for a game that was released on October 5th.

                      It's October 14.

Thanks for reading and for your response.

                        End of demo.
great post, great rant, great points, i recently posted i may not dowload rosters, updates, patches, or anything for this game. because i fear your post is a stark reality.

Thanks and yes, it's relevant to all games and that was my purpose.

I so want a true to life football simulation that it's not even funny. I'd sell a child to see it happen.

                          Not my kid LOL!
