The real issue is that you can't freely sim games!! I don't know how this mode was even conceived without adding free simulation. You should be able to sim a season in 5 minutes, just like in association. Sitting through a load screen for 20-30 seconds just to "sim and quit" and receive nothing for it is ludicrous. I understand rewarding the accomplishments of playing games, but there should at least be some kind of system where you receive half a performance boost (in this case, skill points) when you simulate. Does anyone remember the career mode in Fight Night? Not sure if they still do it, but when you performed a drill, you'd get say a 2 point boost in your rating, but when you simulate, you'd only get a 1 point boost. So even if you simulated the drills often, you'd still gradually improve. And with respect to those talking about how the ratings don't matter, they absolutely should! When I started my My Player, I was a 48. I had to sim games because I was playing for about 2 weeks in real time and I wasn't even at the all-star break in my 1st season. So I simulated and essentially shot 33 percent from the field, even though I boosted my ratings as much as I could. The mode is designed to force me to play every game until my offensive ratings are all in the 80's. Doesn't sound like I'm controlling my player. It sounds like I'm spending every night for weeks playing games just for the privelege of sitting through hundreds of loading screens to complete even half my career.

Imagine the My Player mode if you were free to play one game a week or sim to Key Games within seconds or simulate the first 2 years of your career in minutes to gradually improve and then blow up in your 3rd year like young NBA players often do. They stress freedom and total control in terms of the gameplay, but the same needs to be applied to the game modes.

Here's a question, has anyone here ever played a 20-year career in My Player mode? If you like to play each game and feel responsible for every stat, more power to you, but I can't commit 4 hours a night to this mode. With the Jordan Challenge and Association, I'd like to be able to get the full experience of this game before 2k12 comes out.

Please help push this simulation feature and make it known to the creators of this game that until they add this, this mode will never be complete and, while fun as hell, will be borderline unplayable.

Ever think about just playing this game for say the next 3 years?

It will save you a bundle. And I think it is pretty safe to say this may be the pinnacle of the series on this current gens systems. I think they have done just about all they could on PS3/360.

    Just a thought.

      Where is the OP?

This is just more proof that people love to throw around words like unplayable, broken, and game-braking for the hell of it. Something aesthetic does not make an entire mode unplayable.

Again, it's not my ratings I'm worried about. Yeah, it would be nice if your rating reflected your abilities (i.e. you shouldn't be able to get a triple double in a game with a 45 rating, which I've done), but that's not what I care about.

To the guy that said he played 15 games of his career, let's just say that that took you 5 nights, 3 games a night. That means it would take you almost a month to play a whole season, right? By that math, it would take you 15 months to play a 15 year career. Does that make any sense? Even if you played like a madman and played 6 games a night, it would take you over 7 months. Does anyone have 7 months to spend on one game mode?

If you guys enjoy playing every game, you would still be able to do that. I'm just saying I should have the freedom of completing a career in any span of time that I want.

In past Madden's, I ran career modes as QB's, RB's and WR's. Maybe I didnt complete all the careers, but I was able to sim years just to get a taste of what the mode had to offer. That's all I'm saying. It just makes little sense as it's currently constructed.

I see where you're coming from, and I think the developers know this is an issue to some. I definitely don't have time to play out multiple seasons. Two is the max if I'm diligent about how I spend my time.

I would really like to see us be able to carry over our current guys into next year's game. That way, should you play one or two seasons this year, for next year's iteration you could pick up where you left off. Judging from what they were able to do with the game this year, I don't think it's too far-fetched.

I don't think they should let us increase our awareness rating manually instead they should derive it from out team grade.

Re: Wow... My Player Mode Is Unplayable

Alright guys I'm back... and I've been putting some more time into this mode, and I can admit I overreacted. I was extremely frustrated last night trying to complete drills with my "athletic SF" who had like 65 speed haha. And coming away empty handed in every drill, getting no skill points, not making any progress.

I still think this mode is very flawed but I'm atleast having fun with it now, I scrapped the SF and created a 3-point specialist point guard. I started with 67 3 point rating, then I sunk my entire 10,000 starting points into 3's and got it up to an 80. Then I was able to do the shooting drill repeatedly and earn skill points with that. My player is still rated a 38 overall (WTF) but I got drafted in the 2nd round and I've been playing really well in the summer league, averaging 20.5 and 4.5 dimes. I'm actually having fun with it now.

I was so frustrated last night because I felt like this was a big Catch 22. You need to complete drills and play well in games in order to earn points and improve your terrible player. But you can't complete drills or play well in games with a terrible player.

By giving my point guard a formidable 3 point shot (and little else.... he still misses layups regularly) I was able to give him an edge to be able to actually put some points on the board in the pickup games, something my SF couldn't do because he had NO SKILLS WHATSOEVER haha.

Anyways I am hoping once I get into the NBA I will be able to rack up the skill points a lot faster and then I"ll be able to give my point guard a reliable layup rating, a decent ball handling rating (he's like a 63 ball handle... can't pull off any iso moves, loses his dribble all the time) and increase his speed so he can get into the lane.

But I wanted to come in here and admit I was wrong and I overreacted. The mode is definitely not unplayable, just really frustrating if you don't go about it the right way (which in my opinion is to give your player one dominant skill, and then exploit that skill until you can get your other skills up haha).

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this thread, I wasn't hiding I promise.

The thing that bothers me the most, and made me put down My Player is that I have to try and dominate with my 48 rated player if I want to win!

I decided to make a "test career" to see how fun My Player is. Well, I choose to try being an athletic center and got drafted by the Thunder. With Westbrook and Durant on the roster I thought I should support them as a role player - try to get a few rebounds and play some solid defense. Kinda like being the Thunder's version of Kendrick Perkins. But my AI teammates are terrible. A typical trip down the floor sees Westbrook bumping into a few defenders before throwing up a contested three.

At the same time the opposition is coming down the floor and setting up plays every time, so they get much better shots than the team I'm on. I know this is because 2K doesn't let us see the play vision so I have no idea what play is called and where to be on the floor - therefore the play breaks down and the PG freestyles his way to a stupid shot!

I seriously hope this will be patched. For me it will make My Player waaaay more fun if I don't have to try and take over games with my low rated center.
                True..

My issue with my player stems from not being able to turn on play-vision and have auto play-calling. When not running plays, your teammate AI breaks down pretty ugly. The short term quick fix is to just call plays every time down, you can still call plays from any position as long as you have the ball, you just can't see which plays you're calling. I realize this is a work-around, a short term one. Hopefully these issues will be addressed with a patch.

I have absolutely no problem starting off rated so low but I can understand how some people wouldn't like it or feel it to be unrealistic. Of course if 2k started you off with higher fundamental ratings and made progression much harder, casual players would complain too... People just like to complain period.

                On a constructive brainstorming note:

For the future development of My Player, perhaps a solution might be to break down the initial player types better.

Career Path: would influence starting attributes and progression rate.
                • Polished stud
                • Raw stud
                • Polished role player
                • Specialist

Then break down by player type: influences which strengths and weaknesses you start off with.
                • Athletic
                • Defensive
                • All around
                • Shooter
                • Facilitator
                • Slasher/Scorer

With this system your objectives and expectations(rating system) would change depending on your career path. In the NBA we've seen it time and time again that you need a well constructed team where differing roles are well filled. I think this would fulfill the NBA fantasies of a much broader audience.

The sacrifice will fall on shoulders of the hardcore guys who'll have to deal with the endless barrage of "Polished Studs" online. 2k's going to have to get creative with pick-up game matchmaking.

I started up with an athletic 6'4", 180lbs PG. Dropped disgusting numbers in the combine, got drafted 16th overall at around 42 OVR rating, continued to destroy in the summer league despite not playing every minute of every game - 18 games into the NBA season finally beat out Flynn for starting PG, now have 36 MPG. Suffered 2 injuries during my first season (LAME) but now after 20 games, I'm 60 OVR, Western Conference Player of the Week with 58 pts, 9 asts, 4 rebs in my last game, carrying the wolves to a win over the apparently mediocre blazers. next stop: R.o.Y.

this mode is a cake walk.

I'm really enjoying this mode...however I find myself having to ration my points. I'm on the Lakers and I try to make it a point to not outscore Kobe or Pau.

What really sucks is that if I bump the difficulty level up Kobe starts jacking up crap and shoots 3 for 27....so I play it on default and just ration my numbers...but we are 27-5 right now and I've been rookie of the month for one month (I missed December with a severely sprained angle). But I'm averaging 18 pts 8 rebs 5 assists...so not bad I suppose....if I wanted to I could score 50 points a game but I just don't see the fun in that.

I really dont like starting at such a low rating. Through perseverence Ive managed to play 62 games and am now a 65 OVR w/o touching awareness.
I only play on Pro/Default because I dont want to make it harder to build up your guy then it already is.
However, I am having a blast playing it and have seen MW2 and Halo collect dust since I started My Player.
Im in the last month of the season and the favorite to win the MVP, ROY, and OKC has the best record in the NBA. Also, made the Rookie/Soph game and the All Star game.
If you wanna knock me for playing on Pro go right ahead.. doesnt phase me in the least. Its a video game and Im going to play it for fun... not to struggle.

                          Unplayable?

Not really. I might be a 41 ovrl, but I'm producing. You've got to be smart w/ your skill pts. I used most of the 10,000 pts you get to up my mid-range jumper to an 80 ovrl rtg. That way my PG can shoot, and should always be able to produce in some way.

Your overall rating will increase as you increase your Off/Def Awr. You just have to PLAY the games rather than sim, because simming w/ low awareness is not going to produce good results.

Most 3 pt specialists aren't great defenders and come off the bench in short bursts for that reason. Their costing the team on the defensive end is a calculated risk in most cases.

My Player mode is unplayable because it freezes after every good game. I don't know how many 30 points, 8 rebouns and 7 assist games I've had and it's frozen on me.

I agree that you should be rated higher but it doesn't effect you as much as it could. I got drafted in the 1st round and am getting alot of minutes off the bench for the Raptors.

The problem is the freezing, I'm only 13 games in but would be around 30 games in if it didn't freeze on me and 2K in true 2K fashion, won't have a patch out until late November from what I've heard.

Have to give create a legend mode ago, atleast in that you start out at 79 and hopefully, it doesn't suffer the same problems My Player does because I'd rather play My Player then Create a Legend because you get all the extra stuff but the freezing problems makes it unplayable and 2K are slow as ever in getting it fixed.

Until it is, I don't see a reason to play it with the risk of it freezing until they get a patch out.
