I think you are completely missing the point...the issues that arise in the game seem to be more when you are playing against the Lakers or Heat then if it is Bucks or Hornets...

It works both ways for me. I've had games where I've been up big and the CPU comes back to win. However, I've also had games were I've came back from 15+ points to win. Maybe I'm special or something

Thanks for posting this, it really makes a difference. I've been playing on straight superstar default and been getting so frustrated. I've watched some of the things going on in this game, and it's been mind blowing.

I was playing Boston minutes ago and it's crazy how Rondo can drive right down the paint and my help defense will watch him lay it up, but will double Shaq on the pereminter and leave Allen open all day.

That pretty much sums it up what I have been saying, I guarentee this is not a problem when you play the Pistons and Raptors, your defense wont open up and let them take over. The game seems better when you play lower tier teams

Yeah stuff like that happens on the highest difficulty level in pretty much every sports game I've played. That's one of the reason's why I stay on the middle levels with sliders.

I just played a game where I hit the take charge button, kobe was driving on a fast break and when kobe went for the layup he made contact with my player and my player slid back (feet not moving, like sliding a beer mug across a table) and made the layup..one of many things that happen when a higher rated team is on the court..This game is not about who has a better bball iq its about if the other team is a higher rated team a 10 year old will beat you because he can cheese to win...
I just played the Bulls last night and held Derek Rose to 16 points, 7 assists and 3 TO's; carlos boozer to 12 pts, single digit rebounds. Basketball IQ does win games. I consistently played loose defense on Rose and challenged him to make jumpshots and with the buffer zone I gave him, I easily recovered when he tried to drive in the lane...I'd consider him a top tier player......

                Re: NBA 2K11 Scripted ?

I hate to bump an old thread here, but it's better than starting a new one right?

I'm totally in agreement with the OP and rockchisler. The game is been out for what? 5 months now? I think that's plenty of time to see everything this game has to offer. With that being said, this game is definitely scripted, and no amount of video evidence, "you gotta play smart basketball" speeches, or other justifications are going to tell me otherwise.

I just played a game this morning, Heat vs Spurs, on Hall of Fame/Simulation. The first half played out beautifully. Everything happened the way one would expect. I earned my baskets and the CPU earned theirs. It's was basketball 101 and it was beautiful. It was almost like playing against another human. I was up at the half 61 to 53 (or something like that, but I know I had an 8 point lead).

Second half starts, and immediately, I could feel the difference. The CPU started sliding more to cut out my paths to the basket - paths that I had no problems trekking during the first half. One might say, "Oh, they're just playing you more aggressively." It's fine I get that, and I have no problem with the CPU changing its intensity levels throughout the game. My beef is the manner in which it's done.

For starters, if you ever play the game, notice that there is always a timeout called around the 5 minute mark (assuming you play 12 mins quarters) EVERY SINGLE GAME. Either the CPU calls it when they have possession, or the your team takes an auto timeout (assuming you have auto timeouts set on). Even with the CPU is up by 10 during that point of the quarter, they still call a timeout. That right there tells me that this game isn't dynamic at all. This game is coded to play out a certain way. Everything is balanced until key moments in the game where the CPU is given "boosts" to catch up if they are behind. I believe the term is rubberband A.I. It exists in other sports games, and it's definitely alive here. And don't dismiss this post as some sort of sore loser rant. I am definitely not one of those types. For years, I've been wanting a game where the CPU challenges me and wins games against me DYNAMICALLY!! But this game definitely isn't it!

S/N: What's up with the pop up glitch? If you're not sure what the pop up glitch is, it's when the On The Fly Coaching box pops up without the user prompting it to. It only occurs in certain moments such as fast breaks causing you an opportunity to defend or score on the break because you have to now go and clear the box to resume control. I thought it was my controller at first, but I bought a new controller recently, and the same thing still occurs. When not in fast break situations, I try to press random buttons to replicate it, but nothing ever happens. That's how I know it's a glitch that's coded somehow to only happen during certain scenarios, probably as a way to cheat the user yet again. I'm on PS3 by the way.

So is the real NBA scripted then since the Miami Heat routinely blow double-digit leads in the 2nd half?

Guys, this stuff happens all the time in the basketball. I've played this game a ton since release and I really don't feel like I've ever been "cheated" out of anything by the CPU.

                    Seriously.

If you play well, you'll win. My last couple of games I've been up by at least 10 after the first quarter in all of them, and guess what? I went on to win by 20-30 points. If guys aren't making shots, get it into the post or run a pick and roll to get some momentum again.

Conversely, if you are losing, shake things up. I was down 27 points to the Celtics in my custom Association (I'm using the 1990-91 Lakers) in the 3rd quarter, so I took out my entire starting 5 and brought in my bench guys. They fought and scrapped, and managed to shrink Boston's lead to 12 points. I brought the starters back in (bench guys were toast) and they couldn't get any closer.

For those of you who didnt knew, there are scripted timeouts in the NBA ... if no team calls one after the 6 min mark of a quarter, a timeout will be called once a loose ball ... that timeout will be discounted from the home team the first time ... in case of another scripted timeout within that game, the second will be discount from the away team.

Great post. Just like last night even the greatest teams can blow large leads and in this game if you start to slack off the cpu will take advantage and come back. Its a great challenge rather than a cheat game.

I am firmly in the scripted camp as well. Nothing anyone says in here will convince me otherwise.

You guys are missing the point. Trust me, I'm 27 years old. I've been playing video games since I was 7; I've been watching and playing basketball longer than that. I know that teams make come backs. Just last night, the Orlando Magic had their second largest comeback in franchise history to beat the Heat. But there's a difference between coming back dynamically (the way it comes back in real life) and coming back artificially (the way it happens on this game). The CPU has manufactured runs in this game. There are possessions when they will score no matter what. Am I saying the CPU is unbeatable? No, I'm not. I've won games despite the scripting, but that still doesn't excuse the fact that scripting does exist and does occur and takes away some of the immersion in the game.

Genuine question here: Is that in the rulebook, and if so, where can I find that information?
