The defense is not equipped this year, plain and simple. Any player that has any ability to shoot the ball, you have to be ALL OVER them to force a miss. At the same time, you're not supposed to go for any pump fakes....that doesn't make sense. Tight defense is just impossible this year, as jump shooters will still make the shot unless you go for a block, and any player with speed with just blow by you.

Also, the cpu has a great ability to get back to stop fast breaks and avoid fouling even if they fall for the pump fake, something you as the user cannot do. Add to that a lot of the unstoppable offensive animations and the difficulty of forcing contact with players, and it's a big problem.

On offense I can score, run plays, and be effective. But defense seems broken so far.

I didnt find one person in here that said you suck... I said learn the tools first... It hasnt even been out a week yet and now you're an expert and coming in here claiming broken, and how it doesnt work.. give me a break

I get sick and tired of you people who want to iso your way to the paint for highlights and look at how siiiick that was, only to turn around and not want to put in the effort on defense because the cpu is smarter now, you whine and complain using wack buzz words like broken for everything

Looking at your post, if you havent learned how to defend a quick player, cut off angles, and mix up the defense you have some more honestly

Again, 2 reply's and my concerns are not being directly addressed. I know I'm coming off like a jerk, but it's frustrating. I hear you saying cut off the quick player, but you cannot stop that player if they have any shooting ability whatsoever. While you're trying to block driving lanes, they are just going to shoot because they know you're not focused on timing a block/contesting shot. If you are focused on that, they just throw in a pump fake, or fake a drive and watch the cpu rotate so they can kick to the nearest semi-open player for a 90% guaranteed swish because not every player can have a defender draped all over them at all times.

I don't know man, these just seem like concerns that aren't going to have answers. I haven't seen one person talk specifically about how to address these issues, which is probably because there is no real answer to it. The defense is just not there this year.

I think you do raise some legitimate concerns in regards to defense. I've had some issues with that side of the ball, mostly with the sensitivity of the L-stick (overly sensitive this year) when moving your man, and then I also have to agree with the contact fouls called against me in relation to the CPU.

A few things to consider: lower the Quickness slider for both HUM and CPU to 5. This will help give your players more weight and cut down on the skating/sliding that's currently going on. Also, if you have Clutch on, lower that slider from 35 to 0-10. That helps cut down on every CPU player draining contested shots at will, especially with the shot clock winding down.

The game is still a chess match, but these changes help balance things out a little bit.

HONESTLY this is exactly how 2k11 was last year before the patch, the second you put the difficulty on allstar the opposing teams low-midrange players start to play unrealistically/uncharacteristically well.

I'ts not the stars I have a problem with its the 66-76 rated players that start doing things they have NO business doing like hitting midrange jumpers when they are not a shooter, playing lock down D when their onball rating is around a 65.

I have noticed you must play realistically, no more selecting the center and roaming around the court disrupting shots at the 3 point line and then crashing the boards and gorilla rebounding, choose either or.

Almost forgot, some of this is user-error I've split gaming time between 2k12, Bf3 beta and Rage some I'ts not like putting in the time I need to truly master every facet of the game.

Yep.... I'm bumping this thread again. I mean come on, you guys asked for a challenging cpu opponent and now that we have it, most of us refuse to practice our teams and complain.

Bugs are bugs but don't tell us things like there is too much contact in the paint because you force your way inside. Use plays!! Use offball controls!! Study their tendencies! We have all the tools to counter the CPU so we should learn it.

Its like street fighter or tekken, we should take time to master our team.

Well the game becomes much better if you take your lumps and use it as a learning experience.

My defense has become much improved, because I'mearning exactly how the game operates while taking a much more strategic approach.

Again it gets better if you stick to it.

It's not about the learning of defense and offense..
I just use Lakers vs Celtics on pro/simulation level.

I use Kobe and only shoot wide open shots the whole game with perfect releases every time, i only hit close to half.. which is fine.

then the AI basically shoot 100% on wide open shots and 75% on contested shots from their nonstar starters and bench players. At one point KG slow down the clock to 2 and shot a contested 3 pointer to beat shot clock in 1st quarter. I also shot 4 wide open 3 with Fisher and Artest, not one go in.. then Allen shot a 3 with hand in front of his face. There's something seriously wrong about this kind of gameplay.

That's garbage. Oh and i've watched replays to see my teammates randomly leave their man wide open. If you think those things are realistic you have no idea what you're talking about.
Couldn't agree more... I'm not saying dumb the game down, i'm just saying the gameplay should be fair for both the AI and human player, if we can't make a shot with AI in our face, why can AI do it in our faces?

I've also just ran up and down the court and shot 39% and the cpu did the same for most of the game. In most cases the cpu will do whatever with whomever to get the win.

What's crazy is that it doesn't happen all of the time but, just enough to where it's so jarringly unrealistic when it happens that it increases the frustration even greater.

                      All-Star/Sim btw.
exactly what i think of the gameplay.

Passes need to be more crisp and accurate, sometimes they won't even pass to the right person(even when you're pushing the stick the way you wan to pass it) and button control passing is slightly slower.
YES. YES. YESSSS... to me that is just the AI cheezing when you are down 3 points in last few seconds in the 4th, and the AI teammate decided to help you out and double team in the post, and leave a 3pt specialist wide open for a 3.. If that's not cheating, you tell me what is.

Are you implying that this kind of shht don't happen in the game?? If you are, you're seriously delusional because it happened to me all the time in the 4th quarter, either AI went supercheese mode and hit everything or your player can't shoot anything from simple drive layup to uncontested close basket shots, just so they can make the game perfect..

You will see how much the game cheat if you try to just do all every single shots in the postup/close range the whole game and still get the same stats as normal game, i know you call that cheese, but 2k is basically manipulating our shots in order to keep game close.

Hmmm, let's not get carried away. I am loving the game so far but I'm sure they are ways to make the game play even better. I don't believe that any of you could have possibly played the game long enough to call this game flawless and by the way, it isn't. One thing that I do look forward to every year is the patches that fix issues that don't show up right away. I don't want the game to be dumbed down (?) to make it easier for those that aren't willing to learn how to play but I also don't want the euphoria of the first week stop improvements that can be made even when it comes to game play.

The gameplay is so hard for me this year, but I am willing to take the challenge and learn basketball. 2K better not patch this. I am playing on All Star until I win a damn game and that's that.
