Re: The level of Cheese by the CPU is rediculus

To be honest, I love the fact that the CPU masses/attempts to mount a massive comeback. It's called momentum. What does a coach do when his team is staring at such a thing where they're up by 20 points and all of a sudden the opposition scores 8-12 unanswered points? HE CALLS A TIMEOUT.

If you have played basketball, know basketball and aren't just a button masher, you'll find that this is indeed, the most realistic basketball game ever realised.

I tip my cap to 2K Sports for making the best basketball sim I've ever played in the last 16 years.

Not only is this by the CPU, but the charge cheesing is back in the game, where users can simply hold down the "B" button on defense and get a charge called 80% of the time on contact.

          Charge cheesing?

          Really?

Don't run into a stationary defender. The game analyzes if the defender is set or in motion. If they are set, and you do an aggressive move into them, it's a charge.

          This is an NBA rule.

Guys, that sounds A LOT like real life to me. I mean look at Lebron! The first few games he did great, and then he choked away his ring. It happens in real life guys. You have to play smart, no matter what you're playing. Be aggressive when it's time to be aggressive, and conservative when it's time to be conservative.
No one has a problem with the CPU making a comeback. The problem is how it's scripted to happen EVERY SINGLE GAME. Even if it's not a comeback, in the 3rd quarter, around the midway point, the CPU WILL - I repeat, WILL - make a huge push. Tell me, when is the last time a team went on a small run, had the opponent call a timeout, and 3 minutes later they're on the wrong side of a 36-4 run? Yes, the fricken Cavs scored 36 points in 3-4 minutes in an Online Assoc. on HOF/Sim after stopping my small 6-8 point run in the 3rd quarter to take the lead. Every team isn't able to mount a comeback. I guarantee you, if your up 20 in the 3rd quarter, nine times out of ten by the start of the 4th, you'll probably be down 1, unless you can manage to somehow hold them and maintain a small lead or tie.
Also, were aren't talkin about over the course of a series, were talkin about over a period in the game; therefore your LeBron point/ is moot.
Also, if I'm hot with a player, say, Kevin Durant and I go 4-6 before the timeout, would Kevin Durant miss his next 6-8 open shots?

Exactly. No amount of practice can prevent a video game from doing what it's scripted to do. The only thing you can do is cheese the CPU back, or at least try to. Either that, or take your time and work the role players into the offense. However, that's rarely going to work because for some reason it's harder to make short passes or do anything that's supposed to be simple. Meanwhile, expect a CPU player to be halfway downcourt when you certainly miss, and you better not run down because you will get called for a foul and it WILL be a 3 point play, no matter who it is. Oh, if they DO miss a freethrow, expect them to get a offensive rebound and throw the ball back up with lightning speed.

Exactly. I hate the "This isn't happening to me, you all just need to practice more" argument. I want someone to tell me how I can practice telling my players not to help when Jameer Nelson is driving against Russell Westbrook, which inevitable leaves someone open. I'm waiting for someone to tell me how Jason Richardson taking more 3-point shots than Dwight Howard touches the ball TOTAL (J-Rich was 5-15, 3-10 from 3; Dwight Howard took 6 shots and rarely did they give him the ball in the post at all) is realistic.

First, you described what happens wrong. The player doesn't all of a sudden witness the CPU making a run after being up by 20, and then decides to call a TO. Rather, either the player makes a small run, CPU calls timeout, the CPU makes a bigger run; or, at a set point in the 3rd and 4th quarters, the CPU makes a push and you can do nothing about it but try to keep up. The problem with this is that it doesn't really happen at ANY other times throughout the game but in the 3rd or 4th, unless you just aren't good at all. Basically, you can beat the CPU every single time as long as you survive those 2 runs, and usually the 3rd quarter is a bigger run in the middle of the quarter, and the 4th quarter run is around the end. EVERY team will do this, even the Cavs, Wizards, etc. It's scripted, dude, not great design. Just like the devs in 2K11 "gave defenders Spider-Sense" to prevent lead passing and long passes, and they admitted as much, they obviously put scripts in or whatever to counteract players.

Great, so now I'm labeled a button masher, along with everyone else who experiences this. You realize you're the only one who says they have seen none of this. Even 2K people have somewhat acknowledge there's a problem with the game, so how has 2K made a great game? You're honestly just as bad as the EA bashers, IMO.

              Really?

Don't run into a stationary defender. The game analyzes if the defender is set or in motion. If they are set, and you do an aggressive move into them, it's a charge.

              This is an NBA rule.
I concur. I think enough charges aren't charged, especially when driving to the basket. It's always a blocking foul actually....

What I will point out though is that when you go try and get the rebound and the opponent pushes the charge button...you get that hated animation of your dude bowling over the opponent and getting hit with a foul.

My response is usually..."Really? You're taking a charge? Really? You're not going to box out...but you'll take a charge to get a cheap call? Ugh."

Wow, when I saw that happen I always assumed it was olny ai controlled players involved. Didnt know a user could initiate that animation.

Nope. Happens all the time in team-up mode online. If you're not careful a particularly skilled user can get you 3 quick fouls if you try to crash the boards instead of getting back on D (Sometimes even when you're trying to get back on D while sprinting).

the best way to avoid cheese when playing the CPU is to get your sliders set right...and create a VIP for each major teams you play against...'Program' the VIP by playing with it, then assign that VIP to control the CPU when playing against it.You can even have your friends play some with VIP's to give them a 'hybrid' quality that you both are programming. The key is to only use that certain VIP when playing with each team so they imitate the play style for those players. The results are a much more fair game where the CPU makes mistakes and also a more varied play style. The 'stock' 2k logic is pretty good, but by tweaking sliders and using VIP to control CPU opponents you will achieve a much more human like experience

The CPU is complete BS in this game...I was up 53-27 with the Warriors against the last place Rockets in a OA game with 5 min left...Halftime it was 64-49...at the end of the 3rd qtr it was 81-81 and I barely won the game 111-109 because they missed a 3 at the end of the game.

The stuff the CPU does in this game is beyond frustrating to the point where I don't even want to play it as much. At one point I inbounded the ball to Steph Curry and as soon as I took 1 dribble Terrence Williams steals the ball and lays it in with a foul and 1. I couldn't believe it!!

Iin another game against the Celtics with a minute left they called a charge on me while passing!! Not holding turbo or anything just PASSING!! Next possession my AI teammate fouls Pierce while shooting a 3 and i lose the game by 6.

This game DEFINITELY will cheat you out of winning.

I didn't say the game didn't have its share of bugs. Most 2K NBA games do have them and I have certainly noticed that these 'runs' seem to happen in the 3rd quarter but, they can be combated. Having played quite a few people online with this game, I can easily make the assumption that there are button mashers posting on this site, quite a few actually. It's pretty much why I don't play online anymore except against friends because I am a pure basketball fan and not so much a fan of people that live for the turbo button and use just Kobe or LeBron and try and plough through all 5 opposition players every play.

I think some people that can't get past some of these issues just need to change up the sliders and settings to suit their style of play.

there is a significant difference in which teams you use. i play as the suns in my dynasty and have struggled mightly so for ****s and giggles, i decided to play with the heat and my goodness, the difference is insane. i think superstars (not the rotting corpses of kg, allen, and sometimes pierce) make the difference in this game. which is excellent, because last year i could rule with a 62 overall 6'1" SG named Jake Robinson.
But you can't win with a good, well built team without superstars in Association. And like everyone else says, in the 3rd quarter, your CPU opponent will find a way to knock you out without fail. The first half is actually somewhat okay and, there, you can't dominate with crappy, useless players consistently.

And I agree with everyone else. Defense is moot in the 3rd quarter. Just attack the paint to draw fouls like nothing matters because your jump shots won't go. Real basketball?

Its fine if, maybe, Brandon Roy or Durant or Kobe goes on a hot streak. At least you can defend that and its justifiable. Occasionally some guy will come off the bench and kill an opposing team. Cool. Double teams, play good d', good shots, hope for the best.

But if the entire team goes on a hot streak and continually does that until the end and their defense is impeccable and the refs wearing the CPU's jersey and nothing goes in because its programmed...

Sure, its hard. Like fighting a boss in some shoot 'em up or something where you have to keep going to certain spots and using the same weapon or something, except here its going to the paint and just doing that over and over and over until the CPU decides you could win.

I might give it another couple of shots. But that third quarter run is noticeably artificial. I might just stick to my player until the patch.

I think it is all tied into how momentum affects the game.

IMO it is WAY too much, and in turn takes the game out of the gamers hands.

Ever notice that when you have the momentum the CPU does the dumb things, and you can get away with stuff you couldn't before? Maybe some risky lead passes, maybe some dumb shots, maybe some curious fouls on CPU?

The same goes the other way around when CPU has momentum. Your guys will blow assignments for no reason, CPU will get every And1, etc.

I've been saying for years, momentum needs to be fine tuned, and turned WAY down, that way it will allow for more control, and less BS.
