Re: Bedwardsroy19 30-Team Control Association Guide/Discussion
@SwaggerCoach - I really like that idea... NBA Analysts always talk about a player having that "breakout" year, yet we never see that reflected in 2k. Great idea. I may have to use that.
To everyone,
With me getting ready to start my association tomorrow after the playbook edits come out (hopefully), I need some help on who I should start one with. After about 30 games trying to use every team, I have narrowed it down to the following:
Boston Celtics - I like the idea of having one more year to make a run, and they essentially have to blow up the roster and rebuild. Of course, if we aren't in contention by the deadline, I may start the process earlier. Trade away Allen and/or Garnett, just try to rebuild around Rondo. I'd have to keep Pierce until he retires, though, because he has BEEN the Celtics for his entire career.
Orlando Magic - They are my favorite team, and I think it would be interesting to try and navigate them through the whole D12 saga, and see where we end up on the other side. I'd try and keep them contenders even after a D12 deal, and I find that appealing.
Denver Nuggets - This team is just a blast to play with. I don't know if I have ever seen a team that plays more like an actual TEAM, save for the 2004 Pistons maybe. Any one of the starters can go for 25 on any given night, and I particularly love Lawson. Guys a beast. I don't think I would make too many changes to the roster the first few years, as they are a pretty good team now. Maybe just strengthen the frontcourt a bit, and possibly try and pursue a true star through free agency or a trade if need be.
Detroit Pistons - This team is closest to my actual home location, and I go to a lot of their games. Statistically, they are one of the worst teams in the game, and have some of the worst contracts as well. This would be a major rebuilding project, centered around Greg Monroe and (possibly) Brandon Knight, although I'm not sold on him just yet. I love to rebuild teams, and this would be fun as well.
Portland Trail Blazers - I played 2 games with this team, and I love the way they play. This is a team that is right on the cusp of major contention in the West. LaMarcus Aldridge is a star in the making, and Raymond Felton is a very solid PG. I also love Gerald Wallace's toughness and defense. I would use anyone else on the roster to try and upgrade the Center position (Camby and Oden won't cut it) and I think that could make them a legit contender. After that, I'd just try to sustain them at the top of the West.
I know that I would enjoy playing an Association with any one of these teams, so basically I am just asking for community input. Maybe some pros and cons... some ideas you may have for them... basically stuff like that to help make my decision easier. I'm not just looking for a post that says "use the Magic" or "I'd pick the Blazers". Tell me why.
Awesome, thanks.
Anyone else with any thoughts for me?Comment

I'm leaning toward the Celtics...I love rebuilding projects and you get the added bonus of getting the chance to make one more run with them....you face an interesting decision to try and add pieces if you're winning or blow the team up if you're losing. It's a unique point to take over a team.Comment

This is actually probably the best trade I've seen anyone post. It would benefit both teams, especially if it's a lottery protect pick to the Rockets.

I'm running with the Warriors and absolutely love playing with them. Pacers are my favorite team(hometown). I wanted to play with a team in the West so I can play against different teams and in different arenas than I was used to and I like the shooting they have on their team. From your choices I'd have to go with the Nuggets or Blazers as well, both teams would be fun to play with especially the Nuggets. I'd personally have Oden in my starting lineup playing Center though(I do in my 30 team association now, and plan tro have Portland resign him long term) since injuries are manually created by myself.
If you're looking to rebuild a team from those choices I'd go with Detroit as they have more upside nd are more on the right trackComment

On a side note, I believe vanwolfhawk (the playbook editor) is a Trailblazer fan (although I do not know this for sure, just a hunch based on how the playbooks were released in his blog). I am not saying by any means that he focused less on any other team or that there was any bias involved in play selection, but I have a feeling the Blazers are going to be a work of art offensively, and would be fun to see night in and night out.
All of the teams mentioned have upside to them for sure though!Updates on Twitter: 2KstauffComment

Re: Bedwardsroy19 30-Team Control Association Guide/Discussion
To me the Celtics seem like they would be the best bet. You can play one more year with them trying to make a run and then rebuild. You have really good piece in Rondo, but not much else so that could be a good challenge.
I wouldn't have much interest in the Magic as they don't have a great perimeter player that can take it to the hoop and it's hard to seem them getting one in Howard trade. To me, this limits them from ever being able to compete for a title
The Nuggets and Blazers seem like they could be fun teams to play with, but you wouldn't have to make that many changes. You said you enjoy rebuilding so I wouldn't play with these teams.
The Pistons would be a nightmare as they have some really bad contracts and would be a really challenge. This would be really interesting if you played this realistic as it would take awhile to rebuild them into being a contender.
I think the most interesting teams to play with would be the Celtics as you get one last chance at title and then you can rebuild. Still have a nice piece in Rondo, but you would have a lot of rebuilding to do. Also, Pistons could be could be a fun rebuilding team as you have very few pieces and would have to do a major rebuild with the themLast edited by Dpauley23; 01-22-2012, 04:51 PM.Comment

I'd go with Boston or Denver. Like swagger said, Boston provides a unique situation in that you can make one last run at a title before going into rebuilding mode. Personally, I really like the lineup in Denver and it would be a cool challenge to try and win a title without a "star."Tennessee Volunteers

Thanks for the thoughts everyone.
I think I have it narrowed down to either the Celtics or the Pistons, with a slight edge to the Celtics. However, I may still play the occasional game with the Nuggets and/or Blazers, just to get my fix as they are truly a blast to play with in this game.
Man, I can't wait to get startedComment

Re: Bedwardsroy19 30-Team Control Association Guide/Discussion
Denver and Portland are solid but flawed teams that don't have an alpha dog. How much would they give up to get guy to hopefully put them over the top. Remember when Phoenix tried that with Shaq and it killed them. But if it worked it would have been genius.
Detroit is the classic "Clean up the other guys mess." You still have to wait until Villanueva and Gordon are expiring so you can stock up on draft picks.
Or, you control all of them and try to accomplish all those goals which is kind of what this thread is aboutComment
