Originally posted by sfxMini rant but there's a nugget and the end I'd like some feedback on.
I'm fascinated by some people's obsession with reality. I'm not saying it's wrong, different strokes for different folks. IMO, this is fantasy land. I don't really care that Darryl Morey has said that Kyle Lowry is untradable. He's not the GM of the virtual Rockets. I/we am/are. I'm trying to approach this 30 team control with an open mind towards every team.
I think the "obsession with reality" stems from the fact that most (if not all of us) enjoy forming a community that uses some kind of standard template we can all have in common to give each other feedback on. Because we all have different opinions, attempting to match reality as much as possible gives us a common ground to stand on. Although it's obviously highly debatable what constitutes "realistic" and "non-realistic"...we at least have something to work towards.
At the end of the day, every man has his own copy of 2K12. He can do what he wants with it. All we can do is offer feedback for whatever he posts...and any time he posts something, he has to realize that it's open for criticism, personal opinion, and debate. And that criticism is probably going to come from the direction of "that's not realistic" because, like I said, it's the most accessible common ground for all of us.
...And yeah, well...that's just like....my opinion, man.
Originally posted by sfxI'm trying to figure out a way to assign percentages to different franchises for Free Agency. It's no secret the Lakers have a decided advantage in attracting free agents over the Cavaliers. But how much? Let's say Player X is offered the same amount of money by the Lakers and the Cavs. How much more likely is he to go to the Lakers? 10% 20%. I'm trying to build a modifier list. For example...
All things being equal (money, years)...
Lakers +10%
Heat +10%
Knicks +10%
Celtics +8%
Mavs +5%
Magic+5%
Suns +3%
Warriors -5%
Clippers -5%
Raptors -8%
Cavs -10%
Pistons -10%
Bobcats -10%
etc...
Likewise, since some players have made it known they'd rather play for a winner, we assign addition bumps or penalties according to record. For example,
Top 4 team in conference - +10%
Bottom 4 team in conference -10%
And then, of course there'd be money factors if all things aren't equal. If the Pistons offer someone a stupid big contract (a la Charlie Villanueva that nobody else will offer, that give them a proportional advantage.)
So... an example.
Player X has three suitors... the Lakers, Suns and Warriors, all offering the full MLE. Each team starts as a 33% chance of landing him.
Lakers get a 10% advantage. Making it 43%.
Suns get a 3% - 36%
Warriors are stuck with what's left - 21%. (The negative modifier is if they're up against a neutral team).
Then we look at wins... Lakers finished in top 4... +10%. Warriors in bottom 4... -10%. Final rankings look like this.
Lakers - 53%
Suns - 36%
Warriors - 11%
Go to Random.org. Lakers get 1-53. Suns get 54-89. Warriors get 90-100.
Number comes up 9. Lakers get the FA.
I just whipped percentages out of my arse. Thoughts?Comment

Re: Bedwardsroy19 30-Team Control Association Guide/Discussion
OTOH, a team like Detroit has a serious problem. They've got two massively stupid contracts and 746 undersized scoring guards. Their strategy is going to be wildly different. Now, without a team specific free agency handicap, I can just unload those contracts, create tons of cap space and go after Dwight Howard with a max offer. But that's not realistic because no max free agent is picking Detroit when they'll likely get offers from better locations. Knowing this, my strategy with Detroit is to Moneyball it. Get young pieces. Stock up draft picks, hope I hit the jackpot with a franchise guy and sign him long term. And if, by chance, they do have a ton of cap space during this process, they can take a shot. They'll only have a 7% chance (made up number) but the random number generator might smile on them.
I'm just trying to determine what those modifiers should be. How much of an advantage do the Lakers have? How horrible is going to play in Cleveland?Comment

Why is it a good thng to have prospect scouting off on the season task automation settings? Wouldn't u then have to individually scout for each team?
Also, shouldn't player roles be on? You can't adjust the roles to make them match up with Bedwards' guide with it set to off.Comment

As for scouting, yes you may be better served turning it on for every team that way you'll have some idea of the players strengths and weaknesses, especially if your using a fictional draft class(at some point) where you have zero real life knowledge of the players."You come at the King, you best not miss..."Comment

I'm looking for some suggestions on how to determine how many game to play and how many to sim. I'd like to play every game, but i know that will be very difficult as I'd like to play multiple seasons. I'm curious as to how everyone else does this. How many games do you sim?
By the way, I'm using a 58 game season.Tennessee Volunteers

I don't see Memphis trading Marc. Houston was hard up for Pau, when the whole CP3 debacle went down. As for specific's I don't have any good ideas other that swapping him for Scola and a couple of Houston's bench guys like Flynn and Patterson to get the financials to work."You come at the King, you best not miss..."Comment

Can some ppl comment on this teade?? I'm with the Warriors as well and would like to do this trade too. I personally think it is fair.
Warriors getting: Defensive center who can rebound(Huge need for them)
Hornets getting: Good potential PF with Udoh, Biedrins who isn't really good but do have the size and can rebound some, and a lottery protected pick.Comment

I think there may be some bias there. As the wonderful Joakim Noah said " I've never heard anyone say, 'I'm going to Cleveland on vacation"
(i mentioned Cleveland just for youComment
