Re: I need help with 2K12 - BAD

    - play on rookie
    - use the heat
    - do training camp
    - watch youtube gameplay videos
    - max sliders if needed

    blamo!

This game is a challenge but it shouldn't be dumbed down, that's what the difficulty levels are for. Not everyone should be playing on HOF. All star is fine for me. All star is actually smack dab in the middle I believe for the sliders so you're not getting too much CPU or too much human it's 50 50.

i discovered a new defense, you call a fullcourttrap defense and you defend with the PG or the SG and you call a double team. other defenders will stop passes lanes so cpu won't make bad passes.

no every time but when you want to disturb CPU it's a really good D. but don't forget the double team.

Checkout Da czar strtategy session vids. Also if the cpu is torching u, set up individual matchups. Play deny and so on depending on your matchup. I play default hof and win more than not. I love that level bc I get challenged and if I get a lead and fall asleep at the wheel the cpu will come back quick, which is like the nba.

I turned it off simulation sliders and on to default. That helped me a little, simulation was frustrating. It is an annoying game at times. Sometimes I feel like the CPU makes these dumb shot-clock last second shots every single time. I also bounce between Pro and All-Star based on how I'm feeling. Dropping the difficulty really helps.

Oh my god, I actually got a win!!

Granted, it was against Utah, but I'll take it.

In the game, I changed the coaching settings for the CPU to automatically call plays for me, instead of me manually calling plays, so I don't know how much that helped, but I think that was a big factor. I was able to get some really great 3 point looks for my shooters. Jameer Nelson and Jason Richardson capitalized, 24 points off 7-13 3-point shooting and 22 points off 5-6 3-point shooting respectively. I also dominated the post with Dwight Howard, racking up 33.

I still struggled with 3 point shooting with Redick and Turkoglu, shooting 3-15 behind the arc combined with those 2. I'm usually better with Redick than that though. Turkoglu is hit or miss.

I'll keep trying the auto play call setting, and see if this success can continue. It seemed to do a pretty good job for the most part of calling appropriate plays for the guys I had on the court. There were some issues when I'd have my backups in, and it'd call some plays for some guys who just couldn't get anything started, and that's when the CPU would go on a run, and I'd just have to call a timeout and make some adjustments. But having to make adjustments should definitely be a part of the game.

So apparently having the CPU calling plays for me is about a 30-40 point swing.

I just beat Sacramento by 18, and pushed the lead to as much as nearly 30. Yea, it's the Kings, but these are the games that I was still losing by 15-20 points, and now the last 2 games I've won by a combined 26 point deficit, with some rather stellar 3 point shooting and post play.

Granted, the post play was improved on my own accord, I went into practice mode and learned a few more post plays and now Dwight Howard is just unstoppable, but my shooting is improving by leaps and bounds, and the only thing I changed was playcalling from manual to auto.

Still playing on All-Star / Simulation default sliders.

I need to go through and read these tomorrow. This game liter4ally seems like it "forces" you too lose.
My favorite is when you turn shot feedback on, and its saying your release is perfect,m but clank EVERY shot. 5th game like this, myplayer and association. myplayer is THEE WORST. currently sitting at 1/8 shooting on 6 perfect releases.

gah, I' ve been a 2k'er since 09 as well.

I'm very intrigued by this...I'll try a game tonightt and let you know how I go. I'm kind of at the end of my rope, offense is fine for me but playing defense is just unintuitive and unrewarding.

                      some other tips:

                      -use the 2k camera
-manually control the defender to contest shots (ratings boost)
-make sure your timing is right on things
-make sure your counter moves are the most effective / appropriate to the offensive move
-look for defensive and offensive mismatches
-be mindful of momentum and calling a TO to stop runs, etc

basically use real basketball logic along with widespread knowledge about the how and when to do the moves, and each player's (teammates and opponents) strengths and weakness, is a helpful starting point.

Yeah no dice for me. I set the CPU to call my plays and I still lost to the Bullets by 9. I had a great first quarter but then it all snowballed out of control as it always does and I spent the rest of the game trying to reel in a double digit lead.

I'm now 2-5 in my Bulls association and losing interest fast. After 150 hours I can't believe I'm still sucking this badly. I've said this before but I think I need to bow out and play something else in my leisure time. This game is probably the most deeply frustrating experience I've had in video games, pretty much ever...

It keeps calling me back with the belief that I might improve but each time I try and just fail again. To you guys who can play this game and win, I am quite literally in awe as you obviously have far superior stick skills and basketball IQ to me.

Something is clearly off here. I forgot, what skill level are you playing on? Whatever it is, I say go one lower. Develop a base, get to the point where you can whup the computer more times than not, then eventually step it up one difficulty.

I haven't played 2K on rookie, but I see nothing wrong with doing so if needed. If nothing else, it'll provide comfort for you to develop and try new moves and maneuvers. Sometimes we just need some freedom from panic and stress in order to develop. It seems you are greatly over-thinking things. I don't think it takes a basketball or video game genius to become successful at this game on at least one difficulty level. I just don't understand why, after such frustration, you wouldn't lower the level to rookie?

Yeah you are definitely right. I've been on Pro since 2K11 and played older 2K basketball games on Allstar or higher. So I guess its my ego getting the better of me. Time to suck it up and drop down to rookie I guess, although 2K13 is only months away, it might be a good idea to just take a break and see how the next title pans out.

At this point it's just defense. I have studied my team and can run a decent offense obtaining realistic shooting percentages from my players. It's just the CPU always seems to shoot 5% or more better than me and run away with the game. I may even just lower their sliders a few clicks and experiment.

Yea if your offense is already good, then changing the playcalling probably wouldn't do anything.

For me it was the opposite. My defense was fine (although the CPU does hit a lot of shots that I would never have a shot at), it was my offense that couldn't get anything going. When changing the playcalling to auto, my offense started clicking and my shots started falling.

Which is weird, because it's not like I didn't know how to run the plays originally... I don't know. It just seems weird that changing the method of calling plays would result in a 30-40 point swing for me. How something ultimately so minor could result in such a drastic change. I won 3 straight, when I couldn't win a game period to save my life, and while it was against weaker competition, I had still been losing by 15-20 or more to teams like the Nets, so it definitely did have an impact. I also learned some new post skills to use with Dwight Howard, but considering that, again, I was already capable of putting up 30-40 points with Dwight Howard, I don't see how that had the impact of a 30-40 point swing.

I did just lose my last game, but at least that was against the Mavericks, who are rated higher than my Magic, and I was a bit weakened by injuries (Jason Richardson and Quentin Richardson are both injured right now), and Dwight Howard missed a lot of the game with foul trouble so I couldn't run the offense through him like I typically do. Considering that I had won my previous 3 games straight, I can accept a loss to a team that is considered superior to mine.

My next concern, however, is the fact that my 3 wins came against the Jazz, Kings, and Pistons, while I lost to the Mavericks. I hope it doesn't become an issue where I can only beat bad teams, and have no shot at beating good teams.

And I beat the Mavs by 14! Maybe I'm just slumping hard.
